Gigi Hadid’s friend Leah McCarthy has been serving as her fashion photographer during the coronavirus lockdown.
The 25-year-old model, who is expecting her first child with boyfriend Zayn Malik, has been self-isolating at her farm in Pennsylvania with the One Direction singer, her mother Yolanda, sister Bella, and her good friend Leah – who she turned to for help when editors from fashion magazines started asking if she could pose for photoshoots in her home.
“My friend Leah, who has been quarantined with us from the beginning because she was working in New York when it happened, she’s like the photographer,” Gigi said via videolink on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday. “So, she’s got a really easy fast route to photography stardom and now has two Vogue shoots under her belt.”
Jimmy then asked the model if Leah knows what she’s doing, and she replied, “No, but she’s like, ‘I don’t know what’s so hard about this.'”
The catwalk beauty revealed that magazine editors started reaching out to her for DIY photoshoots as soon as the lockdown began. She’s done one for Vogue Italia, in which she played video game Mario Kart while wearing a red Chanel ensemble they sent her, and another for U.S. Vogue’s Postcards From Home series in which she wore her own clothes and posed with Bella and some farm animals.
“It kind of started the first week we were in it, I was already getting calls like, ‘Hey, these magazines want you to shoot yourself at home,'” she explained. “I did one for Italian Vogue where they sent a Chanel look and I kind of made it a quarantine fantasy scene, but American Vogue wanted it to have clothes that were meaningful and told a story.”
Models Eva Herzigova and Imaan Hammam recently posed for home photoshoots for Vogue Arabia, while pregnant actress Chloe Sevigny staged a nude photoshoot over video conferencing site Zoom for The Cut.
