Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are trying to get their daughters to mix up their Halloween costumes because they want to be Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz every year.

During an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the Hitch actress revealed that her daughters Esmeralda, five, and Amada, three, are obsessed with the 1939 movie classic and always want to dress up as the lead character for the spooky holiday, even though she and Ryan try to encourage them to put a Halloween spin on their costumes.

“They’re constantly dressing up and our kids are obsessed with The Wizard of Oz and Dorothy, so they’ve been Dorothy every year,” Mendes told Clarkson. “We’re like, ‘Maybe we could do a bloody Dorothy?’ Like, ‘I can just put some blood on you or something! ‘Cause really? Dorothy again?'”

The 45-year-old did admit that it was “financially great,” and that her children are happy to wear non-Dorothy costumes when it’s not Halloween.

“They’ll get a Halloween costume that we have hanging out and they’ll wear that with pyjama pants and a headband, and it’s so cool,” the star shared. “It’s just such a freedom.”

The singer and talk show host then said she wished her five-year-old daughter River Rose would pick the same thing every year because she is constantly changing her mind about what character she wants to be.

“What my daughter did was tell me she wanted to be (literary character) Princess in Black, we’re reading these books. There is no costume for that, I had to make it happen and put it together with all of my free time and then she was like, ‘Never mind, I want to be Anna (from Frozen),’ and then I get Anna and she’s like, ‘I don’t know, Wonder Woman?’ and I’m like, ‘You’re gonna wear it!'” she joked. “My daughter changes her mind all the time… I would love it if she wanted to be Dorothy every Halloween.”

Eva Mendes decided to pop into an affordable salon for her most recent hair makeover.

The Hitch actress, who is known for her glossy brunette locks, can undoubtedly nab herself an appointment at any high-end salon she wants.

However, in an Instagram post uploaded on Monday, Eva shared that she will drop into her nearest Supercuts outlet if she needs a quick transformation.

“Ok this is a terrible angle but thought you guys would like to know that yea, I stop into @supercuts every once in a while (sic). Y que?! (and what?!),” she captioned a selfie showing her sitting in the salon chair with wet tresses while wearing a black cape with the Supercuts logo across the front.

Accordingly, a number of Eva’s 1.7 million followers praised her for sharing the candid snap.

“This makes me love you even more!!!” one fan wrote, while another commented, “Love it; keeping it real.”

While a third shared that they also liked to visit Supercuts, posting, “Same. They’re great for a trim and quick layer!” To which the star replied: “Totally! And great for a quick wash and dry!”

In addition to her acting career, Eva designs a fashion collection for U.S. retailer New York & Company and is the creative director of affordable make-up line CIRCA Beauty.

And in a recent Instagram post showing her posing on the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival back in 2005, she explained that she has always appreciated a bargain buy.

“My first time at TIFF. No stylist. Dressed myself,” the 45-year-old reflected. “This vintage dress cost me like $15. My own bag and jewellery. I wasn’t doing a ‘red carpet pose’. No, I don’t long for that time, I just liked the simplicity of it all.”

Ryan Gosling is “always in awe” of the amount of work his partner Eva Mendes puts into her clothing collection.

The Hitch star has been designing with American label New York & Company for six years, and she has now sweetly revealed that her beau is her biggest fan.

“Ryan is incredibly supportive and he’s always in awe,” Mendes told People, before adding that the Oscar-nominated actor has already picked out his favourite pieces from her recent collection.

“He’s been loving the pants I’ve been doing,” she shared. “I’ve been getting into pants more, especially soft pants like joggers.”

Gosling also has to remind Mendes of all the hard work she puts into designing each of the pieces in the Eva Mendes Collection.

“He makes me realise that (making the collection) is actually a lot of work,” the 45-year-old said. “I have so much fun doing it, that I don’t really realise.”

Mendes is constantly inspired by the women in her family and confessed that an old photograph of her mother in the 1980s directly influenced the creation of a silk blouse and matching trousers for her latest line.

“Ryan’s mom, Ryan’s sister, my mom, my sisters, my grandma are all my fashion guinea pigs,” the mother-of-two continued. “Nobody is going to be more honest than family, and our family is very honest. It’s something I really appreciate because when designing something, you need real feedback.

“And then of course when you see your family in one of your dresses, your creations, it’s beautiful, because you know they’re not doing you any favours.”

Actress Eva Mendes has flashbacks whenever she looks at a dress in her wardrobe.

Clothing means more to The Place Behind the Pines star than most, as she recalls fond memories whenever she views a treasured item in her closet.

“Whatever special occasion holds a dear place in my heart, I usually remember what I was wearing or what my mother was wearing or my sisters,” she explains to People. “When I was really little, my mom worked at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood. We would ride the bus to go to work, (and) I’d go to work with her. She would wear this red geisha gown that you had to wear at that time, and it was so beautiful. There’s so many memories tied to that.”

Eva, who is now a mother of two with longtime love Ryan Gosling, has also used the memories of her mum’s clothing to inspire her latest collection for New York & Company.

“When I think of my mom, her whole look wasn’t as uptight (in the ’70s) as maybe it was in the ’60s,” she explains. “I look at photos and there’s just more relaxed hair going on, bell bottom pants, bold patterns – and I love bold patterns. So I think I was really inspired by my mom, but also women like (actress) Gena Rowlands.”

The star is also inspired by her kids and admits the days she spends making a mess while playing with the tots will help her come up with fashion looks down the line.

“I’m inspired by my children’s art work,” Eve smiles. “It’s just amazing what they create when they sit down with the crayon or with some finger paint. I have something really fun inspired by them coming soon.”

Eva’s latest collection with New York & Company became available for sale last week (14Mar19).

Eva Mendes is starting to draw inspiration for her women’s fashion line from her young daughter after discovering her keen eye for stylish ensembles.

The actress and clothing designer reveals Esmeralda, her eldest child with boyfriend Ryan Gosling, has been having fun trying out different looks whenever she picks out her own wardrobe, and she once even rocked her pyjamas as an asymmetrical top.

“Our four-year-old, Esmeralda, she dresses herself and comes up with some pretty interesting things,” Eva gushed on breakfast show Good Morning America.

“Like, she’ll just do the one sleeve (top), and we’re like, ‘Amazing!’ It’s just a one-sleeve jammy!”

Eva and Ryan’s second child, two-year-old Amada, is also starting to develop an early sense of style, giving the Hitch star another source of inspiration as she continues to design pieces for her eponymous New York & Company line.

“It’s so fun to see them kind of like, without any (direction), just to see what they do naturally (with clothing) is really exciting,” Eva shared, “because I’m just mum when I’m with them.”

The 44-year-old beauty has long been known for her effortlessly glamorous appearance, but these days, she leans towards wardrobe items which are more of the casual comfort variety – and she’s added a few to her latest range for the Eva Mendes Collection.

“I have a two year old and a four year old now, (so) sometimes it’s just a challenge to get dressed, so I brought in the tees (T-shirts),” she said.

And the Latin stunner’s evolving style still gets the thumbs up from her beau Ryan, because he approves of everything she wears.

“Ryan’s so sweet. He’s so beautiful, he thinks everything looks great,” Eva smiled.

Kate Hudson is set to create her own fashion line for New York & Company.

The Almost Famous actress, known for her sophisticated red carpet style, has already made moves into the fashion world with her popular activewear line, Fabletics.

However, Kate is now about to follow in the footsteps of celebrities such as Eva Mendes and Gabrielle Union as she has signed on to spearhead her own ready-to-wear collection for the New York-based womenswear retailer.

“It has always been important for me to partner with companies that share my values and creative vision. I love the quality of materials and fabrics New York & Co. uses,” she explained to WWD. “Their size ranges and affordable price points, along with their commitment to empowering women through fashion makes New York & Co. an ideal partner for me to launch my new collection with.”

As part of the deal, Kate will develop a main collection of clothes consisting of “statement casual” tops, sweaters, sportswear, denim and dresses. The items will be sold in New York & Co.’s boutiques and website, with label bosses hoping to set up a dedicated digital platform for the range too.

In addition, the blonde star will also act as a brand ambassador for the company’s Soho Jeans category.

“Our customers have been asking for a partnership with Kate for years,” Greg Scott, chief executive officer of New York & Co, commented. “We believe her star power, style and broad social influence will not only strengthen our relationships with existing customers but also ignite our customer acquisition initiatives.”

And 39-year-old Kate, who is currently expecting a baby daughter with her partner Danny Fujikawa, will be taking a hands-on approach to the entire collection.

“Kate has a million ideas for silhouettes, prints and fabrics,” Greg added. “As a business partner with us, Kate’s going to support her collection in many ways, just like Eva and Gabrielle support their lines, socially, at store events and public relations events.”

A release date for Kate’s line has not yet been announced.

Jamie Dornan has been tapped as the new face of Hugo Boss’ BOSS The Scent.

The popular fragrance is available in versions for men and women, and the Irish actor will front the latest campaign alongside Dutch model Birgit Kos, who has previously walked the runway for Fendi, Alexandre Vauthier, Versace and Roberto Cavalli.

And Jamie, who previously enjoyed a modelling career after appearing on British television show Model Behaviour in 2001, was honoured to embody the brand’s classic ethos.

“For me, Boss represents sophistication, masculinity and elegance,” he said in a statement released to WWD.

Of the collaboration, Birgit, 22, added: “Working with Jamie was great. I could not have asked for a better person to work with.”

The Fifty Shades of Grey star has partnered with Hugo Boss in the past, having showcased the label’s ready-to-wear garments and underwear from 2006 to 2008. He also appeared in the German brand’s fall/winter 2011 campaign.

Other luxury collaborations include Aquascutum, Armani, Dior and Calvin Klein, while the actor has been lucky enough to pose with fashion icons including Kate Moss, Gisele Bundchen and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, as well as actress Eva Mendes.

Though Jamie is pleased to announce his latest venture with Hugo Boss, acting remains his priority and later this year (18) he can be seen in movies including Otto Bathurst’s Robin Hood and Matthew Heineman’s A Private War. The 36-year-old even previously admitted that he never believed modelling was his calling.

“I’ve never felt massively satisfied from standing there while someone takes my photograph,” he told The Evening Standard in 2014. “It’s never given me a thrill, but it would take a very foolish man to turn down the stuff that was offered to me.”

Eva Mendes is happy to let her daughters pick out their own outfits.

The actress and her long-term partner Ryan Gosling are parents to three-year-old Esmeralda and 22-month-old Amada. And despite their young ages, Eva lets her girls have total control over the clothes they want to wear.

“Thank God there’s no fashion talk. But I let them wear whatever they want,” she said in an interview with E! News. “They have the right… they want to wear jammies all day or if they want to go in a costume to the market, I let them do that stuff.

“I let them win that battle. That’s the easy one. I’m trying to get them to eat broccoli. That’s the one I want to win.”

The pair will no doubt ask their famous mum for style advice one day, as Eva heads up her own fashion line The Eva Mendes Collection for brand New York & Company.

On Monday (19Mar18), the 44-year-old beauty showed off her latest designs in New York. Explaining her new offerings consist of “everyday chic, easy, versatile, everyday pieces,” Eva unveiled graphic tees, dresses and ruffled maxi skirts.

And the Hitch star admitted that being a mother of two has influenced the design process.

“I’m still new to the game. I feel like in a way (being a mum) makes me care less because it prioritises everything obviously, but at the same time it makes me care more,” she explained. “Even though I have less time to think about what I’m wearing for my day or how to put something together, I think of it more in a sense of even if I’m not with my kids, I’m always representing them. It’s always on my mind.

“I’m somebody’s mother and I need to act accordingly. There’s an intense amount of pressure that I feel but it’s good pressure.”

Miuccia Prada looks to reject ‘cliche’ with her clothes

Miuccia Prada is adamant the secret to her design success is avoiding trend-orientated clothes.

Miuccia, who took over the family business in 1978, has always been at the forefront of fashion, preferring to think outside the box rather than try and emulate current trends.

Reflecting on some of her favourite looks from over the years, the 68-year-old style trailblazer recreated key items for a new shoot with British Vogue using nylon gabardine, the material that became synonymous with the designer in the ’80s when she unveiled the now-iconic Prada nylon backpack.

“Actually, I think they are very contemporary,” she said of clothes she designed more than 20 years ago. “Many works of Prada don’t look old because it’s never a trend for a trend’s sake. It reflects aspects of people, personalities, and ideas. It’s more concept than trend.

“I do so much thinking. I doubt everything. That is the process of my job, the doubt, the discussion. You do something, maybe a camel coat, but how can a camel coat be against the notion of itself? It’s my way of working. Always trying to go against the rules, the cliche.”

Her forward thinking has ensured Prada has never gone out of style, and it’s a brand coveted by the likes of Eva Mendes, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Reese Witherspoon.

Miuccia is also keen to appeal to a younger audience but stops short of labelling the group “millennials”.

“When they talk about millennials, it’s because somebody wants to sell something to them, and I think it’s deeply disrespectful,” she mused. “(Selling is) definitely an important part of our job, but it’s not our instinct. Our instinct is just doing a good job, to respect people, to do something we think is meaningful.”
