Emilia Clarke turned down the lead role in Fifty Shades of Grey because she didn’t want to get naked onscreen again.

The British actress was among the stars considered to play Anastasia Steele in the 2015 adaptation of E.L. James’ erotic novel, with the film directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.

However, Emilia has now shared that she rejected an offer to portray the leading lady as she was sick of being asked questions about disrobing for hit TV series Game of Thrones, in which she played Daenerys Targaryen.

“Well, Sam (Taylor-Johnson) is a magician. I love her, and I thought her vision was beautiful. But the last time that I was naked on camera on (Game of Thrones) was a long time ago, and yet it is the only question that I ever get asked because I am a woman,” she said during The Hollywood Reporter’s Drama Actress Roundtable, which also included Patricia Arquette, Michelle Williams, Christine Baranski, Danai Gurira and Niecy Nash. “And it’s annoying as hell and I’m sick and tired of it because I did it for the character – I didn’t do it so some guy could check out my t**s, for God’s sake. So, that coming up, I was like, ‘I can’t.'”

Emilia went on to explain that she also feared being “pigeonholed” in Hollywood.

“I did a minimal amount and I’m pigeonholed for life, so me saying yes to that, where the entire thing is about sensuality and sex and being naked and all of that stuff, I was just like, ‘No way am I going to voluntarily walk into that situation,’ and then never be able to look someone in the eye and be like, ‘No, you can’t keep asking me this question,'” the 32-year-old commented.

Anastasia was ultimately played by Dakota Johnson, while the part of Christian Grey went to Jamie Dornan. The duo reprised their roles for the two follow-up films in the franchise; 2017’s Fifty Shades Darker and 2018’s Fifty Shades Freed.

Jamie Dornan does not prioritise grooming due to his laidback lifestyle.

The actor worked as a model until he landed his first onscreen role in Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, and went on to become a Hollywood sex symbol after being cast as Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades film series.

In spite of frequenting many best-dressed lists over the years, Jamie has now insisted that he takes little care of his appearance when he’s at home with his wife Amelia Warner, and daughters Dulcie, four, and Elva, two.

“We live out in the English countryside, where it’s not really about looking or smelling good,” he explained in an interview with WWD. “You sort of get up and go, really. It’s the life we’ve chosen, and we love it. I have two very small kids, and it’s the last thing in your mind in the morning – how you look and how you present yourself.”

Jamie recently made a return to the fashion industry when he was announced as the new face of Hugo Boss’ BOSS The Scent alongside Dutch model Birgit Kos.

The new advertising campaign goes live from 1 September (18), and the film star admitted he feels bolstered when wearing the iconic scent.

“It does give you a bit of a lift – it does elevate you a bit, and it’s a nice feeling,” the 36-year-old smiled. “I don’t like anything too fresh, fruity or floral usually. I just find it a bit distracting, and it makes me a bit dizzy. I prefer the earthier, woodier, leather sort of stuff.”

Jamie also added that the emotions and memories linked to a particular fragrance “never fails to blow my mind”.

The final Fifty Shades movie has helped tip the franchise over $1 billion at the global box office.

Fifty Shades Freed has opened with an estimated global haul of $136.9 million (GBP99 million), taking the total for the three films, based on author E.L. James’ erotic fiction books, to $1.08 billion.

The movie, starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, stormed to the top of the North American box office with $38.6 million (GBP27.9 million) over the weekend (09-11Feb18).

And the film is set to have a good second week, thanks to Valentine’s Day screenings on Wednesday (14Feb18).

Meanwhile, the new adaptation of Beatrix Potter’s beloved Peter Rabbit tale enjoyed a big hop at the U.S. box office in it’s opening weekend, stunning many experts by debuting at two with a $25 million (GBP18 million) haul, and Clint Eastwood’s new film, The 15:17 to Paris, has made it a trio of debuts at the top with an opening of $11.7 million (GBP8.5 million).

Eastwood’s movie is based on the book The 15:17 to Paris: The True Story of a Terrorist, a Train, and Three American Heroes by Jeffrey E. Stern, Spencer Stone, Anthony Sadler, and Alek Skarlatos, about the 2015 terror attack on a Thalys train in France. The film stars Stone, Sadler, and Skarlatos as themselves.

Former number one Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and The Greatest Showman round out the new top five, which is expected to be obliterated next week following the launch of Marvel blockbuster Black Panther, which has become the most anticipated movie of the year. Experts predict the Ryan Coogler-directed superhero movie will open with a $150 million (GBP108.4 million) weekend.

The new top 10 in North America is completed by Maze Runner: Death Cure at six, Dame Helen Mirren’s horror film Winchester at seven, The Post, The Shape of Water, and Den of Thieves.

Actress Dakota Johnson has been branded a “maniac” driver by co-star Jamie Dornan after speeding off during chase scenes in their new Fifty Shades of Grey sequel.

The stars reprise their roles as lead characters Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in Fifty Shades Freed, based on the erotic novels by E.L. James, and one sequence features Dakota behind the wheel of an Audi sports car as the movie couple discovers it’s being followed.

Having to drive fast was no problem for the daughter of acting veterans Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, and although she proved herself to be a skilled racer, daring Dakota had Jamie on the edge of his seat as she defied producers’ requests to keep her speed at 50 miles-per-hour (80.5 kilometres-per-hour).

“She’s a maniac at driving!” Jamie smiled on breakfast show Good Morning America. “She’s a really good driver, but the first couple of times we did that (chase scene) and you sped off, they (producers) were like, ‘Dakota, can you keep it at like, 50?’ and she literally got to like, 120 in four seconds!”

Shrugging off her behaviour, she explained, “I grew up around a lot of dudes and a lot of motorcycles and cars. I like them.”

In addition to indulging in her need for speed, Dakota and Jamie also enjoyed filming their characters’ honeymoon scenes in France – because the on location shoot, which occurred towards the end of filming, felt more like a vacation.

“With a week in the south of France and a week in Paris… it was kind of, I think we had a bit of a holiday!” Jamie quipped.

Fifty Shades Freed, the last film in the franchise trilogy, hits theatres this week (ends09Feb18).
