Charlize Theron was overcome with emotion when she watched a video of Megyn Kelly reacting to her portrayal of the news anchor in Bombshell.

The Monster actress played the American journalist in the biographical movie, which she also co-produced, about the sexual harassment scandal surrounding former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes.

Megyn informed investigators she had been one of the victims of late chairman’s inappropriate behaviour before he was fired from his role in 2016, and she recently revealed that watching her real-life story come alive onscreen in Bombshell made her tear up.

“I do wish I had done more, even though I was powerless… what if I had thrown myself on the fire back then?” the former Fox News reporter reflected in a tearful Instagram video last week.

And after watching Megyn’s video confession, Charlize admitted she was “incredibly emotional”.

“I felt that that was an incredibly sincere moment from Megyn,” the 44-year-old told Deadline. “It hit me really deep. I felt something really real in her saying that.”

The Oscar-winning actress explained she was very moved that Megyn acknowledged she may have been able to do more to help fellow victims.

“We (as women) shouldn’t even be in that situation in the first place,” the leading lady declared. “We want more than that. We want a world where that’s not even asked. Where we are not even in that situation where we have to choose what we’re going to do in the first place. And I just don’t think that is too much to ask. I think that is a human right that we should all have.”

Bombshell received three nominations for the upcoming Oscars on Monday, with Charlize earning a Best Actress nod for her role as Megyn and co-star Margot Robbie being recognised in the Best Supporting Actress category.

Charlize Theron needed medical treatment after lowering her voice to play Megyn Kelly in Bombshell proved to be “very stressful” on her vocal cords.

The critically-acclaimed drama chronicles the real-life female Fox News employees who exposed the sexual harassment of CEO Roger Ailes back in 2016, and stars Charlize as the former Fox News reporter.

However, the 44-year-old was so determined to nail her portrayal of Megyn, she was willing to risk her health to get the sound just right.

“It was very stressful on my vocal cords to do Megyn Kelly’s voice in Bombshell,” the Oscar-winning actress told W Magazine for their Best Performances 2020 issue.

“Megyn has a very deep register, and I started having a really hard time. I ended up having to go see a specialist. Poor me,” Charlize quipped.

She also explained that she was more than happy to wear unfashionable nude-coloured tights to play the controversial Fox News reporter, after being told to do so by a fellow Oscar winner.

“Colleen Atwood, our costume designer, has won four Academy Awards, so when she tells me to put the nude hose on, I put the nude hose on,” she laughed.

The South Africa-born star’s dedication to the role has paid off, and her performance earned her nominations for the Golden Globes and the BAFTA Awards.

Charlize, who also produced the movie, is tipped to score her third Oscar nod when the contenders are announced next week.

Bombshell, which also stars Margot Robbie and Nicole Kidman, is now showing in U.S. cinemas.

Charlize Theron found it hard to empathise with Megyn Kelly while preparing to play the journalist in Bombshell.

The Oscar-winning actress portrays the former Fox News reporter in the upcoming movie, and she revealed in an interview with Adam Driver for Variety’s Actors on Actors series that she had to work hard to understand Megyn.

When he told Charlize that one of his favourite things about being an actor was because it forces him to “exercise that muscle” of empathy, the 44-year-old agreed, and confessed she struggled to make the journalist likeable.

“This was definitely a reminder for me, at this part of my career, of just going like, ‘That muscle needs to be worked a little harder.’ Megyn Kelly made it really challenging for me,” Charlize explained. “For me, it’s a very personal connection that I have to find with the person that I’m playing, that has to make sense. I have to get to a place where I can actually say to myself, ‘This makes sense to me. I relate. I understand.'”

She went on to add that she understood why many people disliked the Fox News anchor, who has in the past made controversial comments about children wearing blackface, body-shaming, and race relations in the U.S.

“Megyn Kelly can be incredibly polarising. There are things about her that live in the extreme. People either love her or they hate her. And she makes no excuses for that,” Charlize shared. “There’s a part of her that is so amplified – she comes across really abrasive sometimes, and somewhat aggressive and cold. All of these things that are not necessarily qualities that make you want to hug a person.”

Nicole Kidman had no idea who Charlize Theron was after she underwent a transformation for her role in Bombshell.

In the flick, Charlize plays Fox News host Megyn Kelly – and it turns out the make-up and costuming was so good, it also fooled one of her co-stars.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the Elle Women In Hollywood Awards on Monday, the Long Shot star explained how her pal was taken aback by her unrecognisable transformation.

“She walked by me at one point and I thought she was mad at me,” Charlize recalled. “I thought, ‘Oh god! What did I do? Did I mess something up in her trailer? Did I not say hi nicely?’

“She just came up to me and she was like ‘Charlize?’ and then I said, ‘Yes are you mad at me?’ She said, ‘No I just didn’t know that was you!”

Nicole plays journalist Gretchen Carlson in the movie – a biographical drama surrounding the women at Fox News who stood up to former network chairman and CEO Roger Ailes and exposed a culture of toxic behaviour and sexism.

During the chat, the Oscar winner highlighted the importance of women in the workplace supporting one another, and insisted The Hours actress had always been there for her.

“She has never done anything but support and show up for me,” the star continued. “We’ve been trying to make a movie for so long. I’m just happy to finally be in a film with her.”

Bombshell, which also stars Margot Robbie, John Lithgow and Kate McKinnon, debuts in cinemas on 20 December.

Russell Crowe’s skin has been damaged from the prosthetics he wore to transform into disgraced TV boss Roger Ailes.

The Oscar-winning actor portrays the former chairman and chief executive officer of Fox News in the upcoming TV show The Loudest Voice, with the drama focusing on Ailes’ resignation from the company in 2016 amid allegations of sexual misconduct, and his death at the age of 77 in 2017.

For the part, Crowe was required to wear dramatic prosthetics and heavy make-up, but on Monday (15Apr19), he admitted in an Instagram post that the process was very challenging.

“The Actor endures … 5 months of prosthetics. 2 make up applications to go… Skin care = discipline,” he captioned a close-up snap of very red skin around his eyelids and nose. “From an actor’s perspective a character like Roger Ailes is a gift… but the physical and mental battle has been intense. The glow some see on my skin is actually damage.”

The Loudest Voice, based on Gabriel Sherman’s book The Loudest Voice in the Room, is set to premiere in the U.S. on 30 June on the Showtime network.

A photo of the main castmembers in full costume was recently published in The Hollywood Reporter, with the teaser also showing Naomi Watts as Gretchen Carlson, Seth MacFarlane as Brian Lewis, and Annabelle Wallis as Laurie Luhn.

In the accompanying article, Crowe shared that he was drawn to the part due to the “f**king good material,” though wasn’t thrilled to be spending so much time in the make-up chair getting covered in silicone, especially as filming began back in November.

“By the time we reach the end, I’ll have spent over 12 days of my life in this chair,” the 55-year-old sighed.

Charlize Theron’s two children often give her advice on her red carpet choices.

The actress made a glamorous appearance at the 2019 Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday night (13Jan19), where she was nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy for movie Tully, and stunned in a one-shoulder, metallic Givenchy dress.

Speaking about her outfits during a chat at the star-studded bash, Charlize opened up about how her little ones, August and Jackson, love to share their opinions on her ensembles.

“Oh, yeah, definitely,” the 43-year-old told Entertainment Tonight when a reporter asked if her kids are interested in what she wears. “They love it. They love saying things just for the sake of saying them, it makes no sense. There’s usually a throwback to a mermaid or a unicorn. It makes no sense, but we just go like this.”

Charlize is famous for her many onscreen transformations, including her Oscar-winning turn in 2003 film Monster.

For her next big role, she is to portray former NBC journalist Megyn Kelly in Jay Roach’s upcoming film about former Fox News head Roger Ailes. In recent photos from the set, Charlize was seen wearing a white T-shirt and jeans, with her hair styled in the same manner as Megyn, while in another, she was seen sporting a black dress similar to the style the journalist often wore while presenting The Kelly File.

“Just a great team of people, a great script and I think a very important story for where we are right now and this movement for women,” Charlize commented of the project, which tells the story of the women at Fox News who stood up to the toxic atmosphere of harassment and intimidation. “This story – the year and a half, two-year span that we cover – was the catalyst in many ways for where we are today and where we’re going in the future, so that to me felt like an important thing to tap into and also just really entertaining.”

Last October, Megyn’s show, Megyn Kelly Today, was cancelled in the wake of her controversial blackface comments.

Malcolm McDowell will portray media mogul Rupert Murdoch in a new film.

The British actor has signed on to join the star-studded cast of director Jay Roach’s upcoming drama about the former Fox News chairman and chief executive officer Roger Ailes, according to Variety.

While Murdoch hired Ailes to helm the network in 1996, following a string of controversial comments and accusations of sexual harassment, the businessman ultimately made the decision to push him out of the company and succeeded him in the role until a replacement was found. Ailes died at the age of 77 in May 2017 after suffering a subdural haematoma, which was aggravated by his haemophilia.

In the currently untitled film, Ailes will be played by John Lithgow, while Nicole Kidman is to take on the part of former Fox & Friends presenter Gretchen Carlson, who filed a lawsuit against Ailes in July 2016 claiming sexual harassment.

Charlize Theron has been tapped to play journalist Megyn Kelly, who has also claimed to have been subjected to harassment by Ailes, and Allison Janney is to take on the part of Ailes’ attorney Susan Estrich.

Margot Robbie has been cast as a fictional Fox News producer and Kate McKinnon is rumoured to have landed a part too.

Executives at studio Annapurna are producing and financing the film, with The Big Short screenwriter Charles Randolph penning the script, which is set to explore how a group of women in the company decided to take on Ailes as well as tackle the “toxic male culture” he presided over at the network.

The film is still in the pre-production stages and a potential release date has yet to be announced.

Veteran actor McDowell has had a career which has spanned over 50 years. Following his breakthrough role in the Stanley Kubrick classic A Clockwork Orange, the 75-year-old has had roles in films such as Star Trek: Generations, Time After Time and Halloween.

Charlize Theron will portray Megyn Kelly in a movie about Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress has been given a part in director Jay Roach’s latest project, in which she will depict the former lawyer’s journey from legal contributor to host of The Kelly File on the Fox News Channel.

Ailes, who was Chairman and CEO of Fox News and Fox Television Stations, was forced to resign in 2016 when he was the subject of several sexual misconduct allegations, which included accusations made by Megyn and fellow anchor Gretchen Carlson.

The network reportedly tried to pressure Megyn to come out in support of Ailes, but she refused and went on to document the unwanted sexual advances she received from Ailes in her 2016 autobiography Settle for More.

Following his disgraced exit from Fox, the media mogul went on to become an adviser to the Donald Trump campaign, where he assisted with debate preparation.

Charlize will also produce the feature, which has been described as “an ensemble pic” in which Ailes and other major players during his reign at Fox News will all be depicted. Gretchen is also expected to be portrayed in the film, along with former anchor Greta Van Susteren, fired host Bill O’Reilly and Rupert Murdoch.

Roach has garnered a reputation for documenting real-life politics in his work such Game Change, based on events of the 2008 United States presidential election campaign of John McCain, and is said to be attached to a TV adaptation of Michael Wolff’s book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House.

The script will be penned by Charles Randolph, who won an Oscar and a BAFTA for co-writing The Big Short with Adam McKay.

Charlize is currently starring as a flailing mother-of-three in Tully, and will soon begin filming opposite Seth Rogen in Lionsgate comedy Flarksy.
