Billy Porter has challenged his fans to recreate his Egyptian-themed 2019 Met Gala outfit while they’re in self-isolation.
The Pose star launched the #billyporterfashionchallenge to give his followers on social media the opportunity to get creative as they self-isolate, and the first task was to emulate his theatrical ensemble from the prestigious fashion event last year.
Porter donned a bejewelled golden Sun God catsuit created by The Blonds, which featured 10-foot gold wings, a 24-carat gold headpiece, and custom gold-leaf Giuseppe Zanotti heeled boots.
The 50-year-old actor set out the rules on Instagram, telling his followers that he was making the challenge difficult to test their DIY skills.
“Using items found ONLY in your house, give me your best recreation of my 2019 @themetgalaofficial lewk (sic) and post a photo or video on your Instagram (grid or story),” he wrote alongside photos of himself on the red carpet at last year’s bash.
“Be CREATIVE and have FUN! Get the whole family involved… I’ll share my favorites! Can’t wait to see what y’all come up with, hennies!”
The Like a Boss star later shared a link to a Vogue.com story about the challenge, which featured some of the entries to Porter’s unique creative task.
“I’m GAGGED over all the incredibly creative and chic responses to the Fashion Challenge! Now you’re all featured in @voguemagazine, divas!” he shared on Twitter. “More challenges to come, hennies!”
The 2020 Met Gala was recently postponed as a result of the growing coronavirus pandemic, which has so far infected around 488,000 people, with more than 22,000 deaths.
The annual Costume Institute Gala was due to be held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on 4 May, with the bash to celebrate the opening of the spring exhibition About Time: Fashion and Duration.

Swae Lee confused Giuseppe Zanotti when he pitched floral sneaker designs for their new collaboration.
The limited-edition collection, which was announced in January, features sneakers with embroidered floral motifs, sleek glittery block heel boots, and pink suede loafers.
But when the Sunflower hitmaker first pitched his ideas to the Italian footwear designer, Giuseppe was baffled about his plans to create a more feminine collection.
“He asked me to do flowers. Usually the rule with flowers is that they are more feminine. It’s very strange for a sneaker. He also asked us to do a pale blue boot with a pink rose. I was confused,” the 62-year-old told Footwear News.
However, he welcomed the refreshing approach to men’s footwear and believes the collection is more unisex.
“But in this moment in time, there’s no more gender. There’s no sneaker for men or women. It’s the same. This collection is feminine but masculine in a different way. Welcome to the present,” he explained.
Swae, who forms one half of hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd with his brother Slim Jxmmi, said he doesn’t mind being criticised for his flamboyant style, because he’s happy to push boundaries and inspire others to embrace their own unique looks.
“A lot of (rappers) are f**king scared to wear s**t. They want to think the old ways and put a limit on that s**t,” Swae stated. “I’m not scared to be different.”
The Giuseppe for Swae Lee collection, priced from $995 to $1,695 (£760 – £1,295), is available now.

Swae Lee has partnered with Giuseppe Zanotti on a brand-new footwear collection for men.
The rapper, who forms one half of hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd with his brother Slim Jxmmi, appeared in the campaign for the Italian luxury brand’s Blabber sneaker last year.
Now, Lee is stepping up his ties to the label by collaborating with Zanotti on a limited-edition line.
“What got me excited about working with Giuseppe was his openness to truly collaborate on something fresh and new,” he said, noting that he took a hands-on approach to the design process, even reviewing prototypes in Paris last summer. “These shoes really reflect my creative point of view, my eclectic approach to style, and the idea that fashion doesn’t have to follow any rules.”
Titled Giuseppe for Swae Lee, the range includes sneakers with embroidered floral motifs, sleek glittery block heel boots, and suede loafers. The designs also include the new graphic “GZ” logo.
Accordingly, Zanotti is thrilled with the final result.
“What drew me to Swae Lee is his fearlessness,” the designer praised of the 26-year-old. “He’s able to straddle different worlds -tough and soft; luxury and street – effortlessly and naturally. He has an unbelievably authentic touch.”
The Giuseppe for Swae Lee collection will launch worldwide on 31 January. Items are priced from $995 to $1,695 (£760 – £1,295). And to celebrate the collaboration, Lee and Zanotti will host a party at the Saks Fifth Avenue store at the Brickell City Center in Miami, Florida during Super Bowl weekend in February.

Anna Wintour gave Billy Porter permission for his extravagant arrival at the 2019 Met Gala.
In an extravagant and theatrical nod to the pharaohs of Ancient Egypt, the Pose star arrived at the prestigious fashion event back in May wearing a custom Sun God ensemble created by The Blonds.
The show-stopping look featured a gold bejewelled catsuit that included huge 10-foot wings, an opulent 24-carat gold headpiece, as well as custom gold-leaf Giuseppe Zanotti shoes and jewels by Andreoli, John Hardy, and Oscar Heyman.
Billy credited his stylist Sam Ratelle for coming up with the idea of being carried in by six men wearing gold headpieces and make-up, and he confessed he was initially sceptical that they would be allowed to do it until the U.S. Vogue editor-in-chief stepped in.
“I didn’t have to do anything. My stylist did it. It was his idea to have that moment. That’s a big deal. Miss Anna Wintour said, ‘Yes,'” he told WWD. “My stylist had the idea and I was like, ‘Child, please, that ain’t gonna happen.’
“Two weeks later, he was like, ‘Girl! You’re getting carried in, darling, by six shirtless men…'” Billy laughed.
The 50-year-old worked on the outlandish Egyptian-themed creation with designers Phillipe and David Blond, who are the brains behind their luxury apparel brand The Blonds.
“Their clothes make me feel like a rock star and I’m about to do that s**t, too,” Billy teased. “Grandpa’s coming back to the music industry, y’all get ready.”

Giuseppe Zanotti has joined forces with hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd for the launch of a new sneaker.
Shoe designer Giuseppe has tapped brothers Slim Jxmmi and Swae Lee to head his digital-first campaign – which includes a high-energy short movie and a series of images – for the shoe called Blabber.
“The sneaker culture has become such a force in contemporary fashion,” Giuseppe explained. “And for the Blabber, in particular, I wanted to break the rules and create an unexpected campaign – there are no better rule-breakers than Rae Sremmurd.”
Available for both men and women, the skating-inspired sports shoe comes in three versions, including a canvas low-top, and crocodile printed leather in a high-top.
Each pair has an all-white or all-black sole and Giuseppe Zanotti’s signature back zipper. Prices range from $495 (£399) to $650 (£510).
In the ad’s movie, which is filmed to resemble a music video, Slim and Swae sport different variations of the Blabber, which is hitting Giuseppe Zanotti stores, as well as the brand’s online shop and selected retailers in the world, on Monday.
“The campaign is really young and fun. It’s for the new generation, new leaders, new trendsetters and new icons in the world,” said Slim.
“Sneakers are a very important part of fashion because they can make or break your outfit,” added Swae. “We want people to put their own twist on these sneakers through their own personal style.”
The collaboration comes not long after Giuseppe joined forces with Rita Ora on a sexy stiletto line.

Rita Ora is the latest A-lister to team up with German footwear brand Deichmann.
Following, quite literally, in the footsteps of Ellie Goulding, Demi Lovato and Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Rita will be launching a new capsule collection for autumn/winter 2019.
Sharing the news with her 14.6 million Instagram followers, the pop singer excitedly revealed: “So happy to announce I will be the face of the new @deichmann_schuhe #ritaoraxdeichmann OUT in August!”
In the accompanying image, Rita can be seen posing in front of a board full of shoe ideas and swatches of fabric.
The official Deichmann account shared the same photo, with a representative writing that brand bosses are “super happy” with the signing.
Rita is becoming something of a shoe expert, after recently working with Giuseppe Zanotti on a sexy line of heels. The six-piece collection was unveiled in February, with the designs featuring gold chain detailing and available in black, red and perspex styles.
And in a chat with Elle magazine, the 28-year-old admitted that she hopes to add to her Giuseppe Zanotti offerings with some sporty designs.
“Eventually, I would love to do a pair of sneakers with (Zanotti),” she said.
The Italian shoe designer, who has previously described his new collaborator as “so extra and amazing,” added that he was completely open to the idea.
“When you work with somebody, you write a chapter. This was chapter one. We finished a chapter, but not the book,” he smiled.

Rita Ora has launched her shoe collection with Giuseppe Zanotti with a glitzy celebration at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills on Thursday (24Jan19).
It was announced earlier this month that the pair would be teaming up, with Rita bringing her design skills, which she previously honed with collections for Adidas, on a five-piece range.
Modelling the Bonnie design, a towering black sandal featuring perspex straps and a gold chain effect heel, Rita teamed her shoe with an animal print Dundas dress at the launch.
All five of the shoes feature the gold chain heel. The rest of the collection is made up of two slouchy heeled boots in either black and red, and two patent leather sandals, again in red or black.
Prices range from $895 (£684) to $1995 (£1525)
Talking about the collaboration, shoe designer to the stars Giuseppe explained how he was inspired by Body on Me singer Rita’s personality when it came to creating the collection.
“I wanted to create a series of styles that represents the three different facets of Rita: glamour, effortlessness and cool,” he told lofficielusa.com. “Music has always been at the centre of my design ethos and has always been my most powerful muse. The music world is an endless source of inspiration and Rita, with her extraordinary mix of sensuality and strength, proved to be a very powerful muse too.
“So we created knock-out stiletto sandals, to-the-knee, peep-toe boots as well as modern slip-on flats, in luxurious materials, like polished leather, textured suede, and rich silk-satin. But the defining element of the collection is the Cuban Link chain, which is my favourite type of jewellery. The design is immediate, graphic and strong and it resonated perfectly with Rita’s personality and style.”

Rita Ora has teamed up with designer Giuseppe Zanotti to release an exclusive footwear capsule.
The singer has previously drawn on her fashion sense to design collections for Adidas while Zanotti has worked with the likes of celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez and Zayn Malik. This partnership started when the Italian fashion mogul asked Ora for pictures of her favourite shoes that he could put his own spin on, before creating a collection that consists of slides, stiletto sandals and pointed-toe mules. Ora’s favourite pair is the knee-high peep-toe boots with a chunky Cuban Link chain on the heel, and specifically requested the chain herself.
“One of my favourite styles of jewellery is the Cuban Link, which also happens to be Giuseppe’s key statement, so it made sense to include it in our collaboration,” the 28-year-old explained in an interview with WWD. “It’s just a mirror of my own personal jewellery collection.”
The exclusive line will launch on 24 January across select Giuseppe Zanotti stores, online, and at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue, with prices ranging from $795 (£623) to $2,495 (£1,955).
The Anywhere hitmaker first met Zanotti in 2017 and when they agreed to collaborate, she was keen to include flat shoes in the final range.
“I’ve always loved his slides, so I knew we had to do a pair, it was a shoe that I remember always wanting, then saving money for, and buying. I also really like the look of PVC so that definitely had to be included,” she said, adding that she tries to avoid wearing high heels on stage whenever possible. “I’ve never been the best at that. So if I was going to do a heel, it would be a boot-fit heel and very steady, so I don’t fall over.”

Grace Elizabeth has been tapped to star in Giuseppe Zanotti’s latest campaign.
The 21-year-old model is quickly rising through the ranks of the fashion industry, having recently walked the runway for big-name brands like Victoria’s Secret, Carolina Herrera, Fendi, and Chanel.
Now, Grace is adding another string to her bow, as she has been unveiled as the face of Zanotti’s spring/summer 2019 marketing imagery.
Photographer Craig McDean helmed the photoshoot, with one image showing the model posing in a blush pink blazer in a white room while clutching a pair of pink satin Alina Bow stilettos.
Another snap depicts her in a black ensemble which is matched with the crystal-embellished Janell sandal, while a third sees her sport the Peony sandal, which features a large silk flower attached to the back of the heel.
The campaign also showcases the strappy black leather Larissa sandal and a flat sandal with a large jewel attached.
Regarding the concept, designer Zanotti commented that he wanted to convey the idea that evening shoes don’t just have to worn at night.
“I really wanted to (do) something different, modern with this campaign,” he said in a statement. “My shoes have always been and will always be works of art – embellished, feminine, gorgeous…but today there are no longer rules about evening style versus day. A contemporary woman is just as comfortable pairing a stiletto with jeans as a flat with a dress. The choice is hers.”
Grace, who is also an Estee Lauder brand ambassador, succeeds Bella Hadid as the face of a Zanotti campaign. Bella, 22, fronted the luxury footwear label’s campaigns for the past two seasons.

Lili Reinhart wowed in a pink sequin dress at the 2018 Teen Choice Awards on Sunday night (12Aug18).
The Riverdale star stepped out at the celebration held at The Forum in California, where she picked up the prize for Choice Drama TV Actress, while her show won a number of other awards including Choice Drama TV Show.
Lili walked the red carpet separately from her co-star and boyfriend Cole Sprouse, who won Choice Drama TV Actor, and certainly made a style statement in a number from Monique Lhuillier. The 21-year-old matched her ensemble with pink satin Olgana Paris shoes and jewellery from EF Collection.
“Moody sultry Elle Woods meets Vogue,” she captioned a snap of the look on her Instagram page, referring to Reese Witherspoon’s character in 2001 movie Legally Blonde.
Among the other Riverdale castmembers to dress up for the night included Madelaine Petsch, who sported a Giambattista Valli top and trousers featuring a floral print, while Camila Mendes looked stunning in a blush pink Fendi dress with strappy Sophia Webster heels.
In addition, 13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford dazzled in a black lace Alberta Ferretti dress and Sergio Rossi shoes, Nina Dobrev rocked a lemon yellow minidress and Anna Kendrick opted for a pink and silver minidress as well as silver Giuseppe Zanotti high heels.
Meanwhile, Lucy Hale went all out in a striking Mary Katrantzou dress with plunging neckline which she complemented with Jimmy Choo pumps, Kat Kim bling and an Edie Parker clutch. To top off her eye-catching look, the Pretty Little Liars actress had her make-up artist Kelsey Deenihan give her a slick of green shadow on her lids.
“Poison ivy… we WENT for it tonight,” she wrote alongside a snap of her beauty look on her social media pages.
Other celebrities at the bash included Joey King, Chloe Grace Moretz, Bebe Rexha, Storm Reid and Meghan Trainor.
