Busy Philipps discovered a workout routine she loves after being told to lose weight for a role.

The actress opened up about the experience in an interview with People magazine, in which she recalled producers informing her she was not going to be cast in a project unless she slimmed down. Though she found the ordeal troubling, it pushed her to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

“In the early 2000s, I was asked to lose weight for a part, which is not an uncommon thing that happens in Hollywood,” she said. “Although, maybe it’s getting better now, I don’t know. I hope so, for young actors starting out. But I was told to lose weight for a part, and they sent me to (celebrity trainer) Gunnar Peterson, and he showed me a way into fitness by introducing me to spin classes, showing me the workouts, all that stuff.”

Being introduced to the celebrity trainer’s workouts led her to find out how much she could enjoy fitness.

“I think people do that, I think you do, you make that decision. You’re like, ‘Oh, I’m not interested in that,’” the Cougar Town star added. “And finding it organically has been incredible for me, but I was like, told I had to, right? So for people who aren’t told they have to, I would just say to be open to the possibility.”

Today, the 39-year-old makes sure to inspire her daughters Birdie and Cricket to have fun while exercising.

“My girls have a different experience because their dad (husband Marc Silverstein) goes to spin class always every day, they know that. I do my workout every morning, they know that,” she said. “I feel like modelling behaviour for younger generations is so important, and that’s part of the reason why I post my workouts on the (Instagram) stories.”

Amber Heard worked like an animal to get into shape for her Aquaman role.

The star worked with lots of different fitness pros to make sure she was ready to play Mera, the love interest of Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, including trainer to the stars Gunnar Peterson.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter about their intense sessions, Gunnar says he was blown away by Amber’s efforts.

“(She) worked like an animal,” he enthused.

Together they trained for 60 minutes three times a week, sessions Amber had to fit in around all of her other training, including fight preparation.

“They were a full 60-minute hour, make no mistake about it,” Gunnar stated, adding that finding time in her busy schedule was often the hardest part of the job.

Among his go-to moves were dumbbell squat presses, hip bridges targeting the glutes and core and shoulder endurance work on a Synergy Air Power Tower, and he explained how he honed in on movements and exercises that enhanced strength and flexibility.

“You have to train the body as a whole, shoring up any weaknesses — but the hardest part about that is finding any weaknesses on Amber!” he praised.

Amber recently revealed the extent of her training in a chat with Shape magazine.

“I did six months of rigorous training. It was a lot of weight and strength training, as well as special martial arts training. By the end, I was working out for five hours a day,” the 32-year-old said.

Aquaman is in cinemas now.
