Emily Ratajkowski has opened up about her struggle with depression over the past year.
The model/actress took to Instagram on Monday to share a serious black-and-white selfie and a message about her recent mental health battles.
“This pic was taken toward the end of last year,” she wrote. “2019 was one of the hardest years of my life. My mom was really sick, I was battling a serious depression and everything felt very uncertain.”
Emily didn’t divulge any further details about her own health but indicated that she is now in a much better place – in spite of the coronavirus crisis currently sweeping the world.
“2020 is definitely giving last year a run for its money but I’m happy to say that I’ve have learned how to take better care of myself,” the 28-year-old stated. “I don’t generally like to get too personal on here and I’m far from having s**t figured out but these were some of the notes I scribbled down on New Year’s Eve. I wanted to share them and a little piece of my story in case they might make any of you feel less alone in the anxiety or confusion or fear you could be experiencing right now.”
In addition, the I Feel Pretty star uploaded several pages of handwritten notes titled “Things I learned in 2019,” along with an extensive list of life lessons.
“True satisfaction comes after quite patient hard work. You can’t control other people’s perceptions so do not let their perceptions dictate your life or who you are,” one point read, with others including, “Your feelings are always justified and should be honoured,” and “Be curious about yourself and other people rather than judgemental.”
