Kerry Washington felt “empowered” in the racy ensemble she wore to the Golden Globes last month.

The Scandal star stepped out onto the red carpet at The Beverly Hilton hotel wearing a daring black Altuzarra ensemble which was comprised of a skirt with a thigh-high slit and a blazer with nothing underneath except for a bejewelled harness.

In a cover interview with U.S. InStyle magazine, Kerry explained that the outfit made her feel sexy and empowered that the same time.

“It was both really sexual and sensual but also extremely empowered and boundaried,” she said. “My favourite compliment was when this woman came up to me and said that she loved it because it was ‘so sexy’ but it also implied that ‘you can look but you can’t touch.'”

The 43-year-old also received praise from her fellow celebrities during the evening, although Isla Fisher was concerned she was going to expose herself.

“Isla Fisher was at a table with J.Lo, and Isla was like, ‘I’m so stressed out. I just feel like Kerry’s jacket is going to fly open, and it’s going to be a disaster,'” Kerry recalled. “Jennifer Lopez, who is the queen of Topstick (tape), just turned to her and said, ‘She’s fine!’ Jennifer and I are from the same neighbourhood in The Bronx, so she’s always looked out for me.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the actress, who is an ambassador and creative consultant for skincare brand Neutrogena, explained that she keeps in shape by doing exercises such as Pilates and yoga, while she and her children are big fans of swimming too.

“My husband teased me that if I did the (DNA test) 23andMe, it would come back 11 per cent mermaid. My kids are the same way. They’re just fish,” she joked.

Kerry and her husband Nnamdi Asomugha, who have been married since 2013, are parents to Isabelle, five, and Caleb, three.

Jennifer Lopez pulled out all of the stops for the 2020 Golden Globes on Sunday night.

The superstar, who was nominated for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture category for her role in Hustlers, turned up to The Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, California rocking a custom-made white silk Valentino gown with dramatic gold and green bow detailing on the bodice.

Jennifer topped off her look with Harry Winston jewellery, a Judith Leiber bag, and had her brunette locks swept back into a plaited bun – with the hairstyle reminiscent of the look she wore in a key scene in her 2002 film Maid in Manhattan.

The actress, who lost out to Laura Dern for her performance in Marriage Story, was styled by Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn, and accompanied by her sportsman fiance Alex Rodriguez on the red carpet. Alex sported a tuxedo for the night, and in a post on Instagram, joked that he looked like the 50-year-old entertainer’s security guard.

“Head of @jlo security, reporting for red carpet duty! @goldenglobes,” he wrote.

Apart from Jennifer’s eye-catching ballgown, a major trend for the night was the colour pink.

Priyanka Chopra, who served as a presenter, opted for a stunning pastel pink off-the-shoulder Cristina Ottaviano dress with delicate drapery. She completed the ensemble with Christian Louboutin shoes and Bulgari bling.

Meanwhile, Tiffany Haddish stood out in a pink Galia Lahav dress, Isla Fisher made a statement in a fuchsia Monique Lhuillier gown, and Adam Driver’s wife Joanne Tucker sported a hot pink silk outfit with high neck and oversized sleeves.

Shanina Shaik has “wanted to give up” on her modelling career many times.

The Australian beauty moved to New York City as a teenager to achieve her dream of becoming a model and made her debut at New York Fashion Week in 2009, before scoring her breakthrough in 2011 when she was cast in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

Despite her success, Shanina has admitted to Vogue Australia that she has considered quitting the modelling industry many times in the past.

“Honestly, there are so many times where I’ve wanted to give up! I’m like, ‘I might quit modelling now… I don’t know.’ But having people around you who really care about you definitely keeps you going,” she candidly confessed.

The 28-year-old, who appeared on Australian reality show Make Me a Supermodel, added that she had to prove her critics wrong at the start of her career because they thought she couldn’t do high fashion.

“At the beginning of my career, a lot of people thought I was quite commercial and that I couldn’t do high fashion, so that gave me a lot of insecurities,” the star continued. “Then I had this one amazing year where I booked Victoria’s Secret, which had always been a huge goal of mine. And I walked for the Chanel show too. It felt good to prove people wrong, but it also showed me how important it is to believe in yourself and have a good team.”

Shanina recently moved to Los Angeles and is pursuing an acting career, having scored a role in Greed alongside Steve Coogan and Isla Fisher.

“It was quite different to modelling, but I really enjoyed the process of it,” she said of the shoot. “I think being on camera so much helps in some way, but it’s not just still imagery. With acting, you’re constantly moving and being seen from every angle – you can’t hide!”

Melissa McCarthy is set to reunite with Chris O’Dowd on upcoming movie The Starling.

The pair previously co-starred in Theodore Melfi’s 2014 comedy-drama St. Vincent and Paul Feig’s 2011 hit Bridesmaids.

Now, editors at Deadline have reported that McCarthy and O’Dowd are in talks to appear in The Starling, with Melfi eyed to direct.

With a script from Matt Harris, the plot will follow a married couple who suffer a tragedy which puts a great strain on their relationship. The wife, set to be portrayed by McCarthy, stays home and builds a beautiful garden, though unfortunately, her tranquil space is interrupted by a sizeable black starling that has nested there. According to Deadline, the plot will be “an allegorical tale of how love can carry one through grief”.

The script for The Starling has been floating around Hollywood for several years, with Keanu Reeves and Isla Fisher attached to appear back in 2017. That version was to be directed by Dome Karukoski, but never came to fruition.

Melfi most recently directed 2016’s Hidden Figures and is in the pre-production phases of animated comedy The Fourteenth Goldfish and I am Rose Fatou, in which he serves as a writer and producer.

Meanwhile, McCarthy is coming off the back of her Oscar-nominated performance as Lee Israel in Can You Ever Forgive Me? and a role as Detective Connie Edwards in The Happytime Murders. The 48-year-old has also completed filming on Andrea Berloff’s crime film The Kitchen and action-comedy Superintelligence, which was directed by her husband Ben Falcone.

O’Dowd has been working on How to Build a Girl with Emma Thompson and Beanie Feldstein, slated to hit cinemas later in the year, and is linked to Adventures of Super Frank, about an Irishman who embarks on a road trip in search of his girlfriend.

A potential release date for The Starling is yet to be announced.

Actress Isla Fisher learned to embrace her red hair after connecting with the heroine of one of her favourite books, Anne of Green Gables.

The Wedding Crashers star grew up feeling a little different because so few girls and women in books she read and films she watched were redheads – and then she picked up Lucy Maud Montgomery’s book.

“I knew my hair was special after falling in love with Anne of Green Gables when I was nine years old,” she tells InStyle magazine. “She was the first heroine I could connect with.

“A lot of the redheaded characters I saw depicted in film and literature were kind of evil or a bit crazy. But she was really cool and spunky. There’s an amazing quote (in the book): ‘You’d find it easier to be bad than good if you had red hair. People who haven’t red hair don’t know what trouble is’.”

The 43 year old is reluctant to alter her trademark tresses again after she struggled to repair the damage a dye job did to her locks following 2002 film Scooby-Doo.

“They wanted Sarah Michelle Gellar to go red as Daphne and me to be blonde (as Mary Jane),” she recalls. “That was a really long shoot; it was on and off for about eight months. My hair was quite fried at the end. (Now) when I take on a job (I pitch) the directors different wigs. But they always want my red hair.”

Meanwhile, Fisher relies on celebrity haircare expert Tracey Cunningham when she notices the occasional strands of grey.

“She knows I don’t want to dye (all of) it, so she just colors individual strands,” she says. “Sometimes I’ll do a gloss if I’ve got an event.”

Lady Gaga led the glamour at the Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night (06Jan19), wowing in a stunning eggshell blue ballgown.

The 32-year-old singer and actress may have missed out on the Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama prize for her role in A Star Is Born, but she topped numerous best-dressed lists thanks to her custom Valentino couture creation.

Fans were quick to point out the similarity between Gaga’s show-stopping outfit and the dress worn by Judy Garland in the 1954 version of A Star Is Born. However, the multi-talented star, who picked up the Best Original Song gong for her A Star Is Born tune Shallow at the event, insisted any likeness was entirely unplanned.

Shown a picture of Judy in the gown by reporters at Entertainment Tonight, Gaga replied: “We didn’t say that. No, but it looks an awful lot like that, doesn’t it? She looks beautiful. This is a Valentino Couture custom creation for me. That’s special, except I’m missing the gloves. Thank you for showing me that. It made my night.”

Gaga teamed her one-of-a-kind dress with $5 million (£3.9 million) worth of Tiffany & Co. diamonds, and complemented the look by dyeing her platinum blonde hair a matching shade of blue.

The star wasn’t the only celebrity to opt for a ballgown for the occasion. Crazy Rich Asians actress Constance Wu and GLOW beauty Alison Brie both opted for floor-grazing dresses from Vera Wang, while Riverdale actress Lili Reinhart matched the red carpet in an eye-catching Khyeli Couture number.

Penelope Cruz went for drama in her black and purple Ralph & Russo halterneck gown, while newly-engaged Heidi Klum was pretty as a princess in her Monique Lhuillier dress, which featured floral embellishments on the black tulle skirt.

Emmy Rossum, Jameela Jamil, Isla Fisher, and Amber Heard also opted for full gowns.
