James Arthur is determined to shed some weight after hitting 238 pounds (108 kilograms) during lockdown.
The Say You Won’t Let Go singer confessed to Britain’s The Sun newspaper that he has piled on the pounds during the coronavirus lockdown because he didn’t have much else to do besides indulge in his love of sweet treats, and as a result, he now weighs 17 stone.
“I have put on a fair bit of weight since the beginning of the lockdown because there’s nothing else to do but stuff my face,” the 32-year-old admitted. “I’ve got a sweet tooth so it’s just cake really. I love cake.
“I’m pretty much a vegan so I’ve been having the fake meat – sausage sandwiches and stuff like that I’ve been digging into.”
The X Factor U.K. winner is now desperate to lose the weight and has been going on runs and using gym equipment at his home to help him shed the excess pounds and reach his goal.
“I’ve set myself a goal to lose a bit of weight. It might sound extreme but I’m 6ft 3in and I weigh 17 stone so I’d like to drop a couple of stone if possible,” he shared. “I’ve done a couple of 10-mile bike rides and that’s really effective. I’ve got a gym set up at the house, I’ve got a bunch of cardio machines like a treadmill and a Peloton bike.
“I want to come out of this thing in the best shape that I’ve ever been in, that’s something I’m genuinely striving for.”

Activists at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have named Jessie J and James Arthur as the Most Beautiful Vegan Celebrities.
Both musicians have adopted a plant-based diet in recent years and were chosen by officials at the ethical organisation to serve as an inspiration for the younger generation.
“James Arthur and Jessie J are living proof that sticking up for others is the stuff of real beauty,” PETA director Elisa Allen said in a statement. “PETA encourages all kind people to take a page out of the singers’ playbooks and choose vegan food and animal-free clothing and entertainment.”
Jessie, 31, has been vegan for more than a year and began eating a diet rich in plant-based foods to help manage her chronic pain from fertility issues.
Back in July, she opened up on her decision to become vegan in an interview with Plant Based News and confessed she was taken aback by the positive change ditching meat and dairy products has had on her health and mood.
The Domino hitmaker described veganism as a “lifestyle that has improved her life immensely and very quickly”.
Meanwhile, former The X Factor winner James is a vocal advocate for the benefits of plant-based diets and has been a strict vegan for more than two and a half years.
He previously opened up on his decision to go vegan and said making the switch has helped him lose weight and “feel energised”.
“There’s a misconception that you’ve got to get all your protein from meat, but the meat gets the protein from plants,” the 31-year-old shared.
