Tessa Thompson, Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet were among the stars to honour late fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld on the red carpet at Sunday night’s (24Feb19) Oscars.
The fashion and showbiz world were left in mourning last week when Lagerfeld passed away at the age of 85 from a secret battle with pancreatic cancer.
A long list of stars paid tribute to the Chanel and Fendi head in the immediate aftermath of his death on Tuesday, with a number of A-listers and their stylists deciding to also honour him at the Oscars.
Creed actress Thomson was decked out in a black silk bustier Chanel dress from the label’s Spring/Summer 19 couture collection.
Explaining the look, which featured gold sequinned tiers down the dress, her stylists Wayman Bannerman and Micah McDonald wrote on Instagram: “Honouring Karl… last couture collection x #tessathompson #oscars #chanel. Thank you for your legacy #karllagerfeld x #chanel #couture #tessathompson #oscars.”
They also revealed the 35-year-old’s beauty look was inspired by Coco Chanel.
Married couple Momoa and Bonet went for pink Fendi looks, picked out by stylist Jeanne Yang.
“Thank you @fendi @silviaventurinifendi for @prideofgypsies gorgeous tuxedo #karllagerfeld last pieces he may have ever made,” Yang wrote on Instagram.
“@fendi couture thank you @silviaventurinifendi for #lilakoimoon Oscar gown tonight the last one of #karllagerfeld as the creative director.”
She added to The Hollywood Reporter: “Jason is wearing the last thing Karl had his hand on with Silvia Fendi.”
During an interview with ABC before the Oscars, Bonet said: “We have the honour of wearing Karl Lagerfeld, he designed Jason’s tux personally for him.” Gesturing at her own dress, she added: “And this is from his last couture collection from Fendi.”
Momoa completed his look with a pink velvet scrunchie, also designed by Kagerfeld, which he wore around his wrist.
Meanwhile, Chanel collaborator Pharrell Williams wore a Chanel nameplate necklace as he posed for photographs on the red carpet.
