Ben Affleck’s co-stars on The Way Back had great respect for the recovering actor for playing an alcoholic in the upcoming movie.

The 47-year-old first entered rehab for alcohol addiction back in 2001, before then being admitted twice in 2018, with ex-wife Jennifer Garner staging an intervention to get him to a treatment facility.

In the sports drama, directed by Gavin O’Connor, Affleck plays alcoholic high school basketball coach Jack Cunningham, who is struggling with the death of his child and the end of his marriage.

And his co-stars had nothing but admiration for the Oscar-winning filmmaker for taking on a role similar to his own life.

Michaela Watkins, who plays his sister Beth in the film, told Variety that while it was a “great joy” to play people she’s too afraid to be herself, she held Affleck in high regard for portraying an alcoholic on the big screen.

“To get to the point in his career for Ben to play somebody who’s got some parallels with his life? I think that’s the bravest. That’s the scariest thing you could ever play,” she shared.

Al Madrigal, who stars alongside Affleck as teacher Dan, was also full of praise for the Argo star, who had apparently come “right from rehab” to film the movie.

“I wasn’t whipping out a flask on the sidelines, but Ben had it handled. He has a good sense of why he is not going back (to drinking) – because he’s doing this for his children and he wants to be a guy that they can look up to,” he gushed.

Johanna Ortiz is collaborating with designers at H&M on a fashion collection.

The Colombian designer has built up a reputation for her use of feminine silhouettes and vibrant hues, with celebrity fans including Mandy Moore and Jennifer Garner.

Now, Ortiz has announced that she is working alongside the design team at the Swedish high street retailer, with the collection to be comprised of several elegant day-to-night options.

“The prints all come from my obsession with the flowers, the palm trees and the beautiful colours I am blessed to see out the window when I wake up at home in Cali, in my native Colombia,” she said. “The imprint of Latin America and its uniquely festive atmosphere is something that can be felt in each Johanna Ortiz design, so I’m thrilled that so many women in the world will have a little piece of Colombia in their wardrobes thanks to the Johanna Ortiz x H&M collaboration.”

An exclusive pre-drop of four dress styles will be unveiled in select stores and on H&M’s website on 3 December. The garments feature exotic floral prints from Ortiz’s archive – Wild Roses, Orchid Paradise, Cacatua, and Coquelicots – with the colour palette heavy on warm yellow, dusty pink, forest green, and coral-infused dark brown shades.

“Discovering the world of Johanna Ortiz’s exuberant design, her use of colour and her exceptional flair for dramatic silhouettes has been a great experience for the whole design team. They have been working closely with Johanna throughout the whole process, enjoying her extraordinary hospitality in her beautiful home in Cali,” added Maria Ostblom, head of womenswear design at H&M. “We are thrilled to be able to celebrate Colombia’s rich history and craftsmanship and to bring Johanna’s signature happiness-inducing designs to the H&M customer.”

The main Johanna Ortiz x H&M collection will drop in March 2020.

Alec Baldwin turned down the opportunity to star alongside Jennifer Garner in a film because it would have taken him too far away from his family.

The 30 Rock star was being lined up to join the Dallas Buyers Club actress in an upcoming drama, but when he found out the shoot would take place in South Africa, he was forced to turn down the job.

“Someone called me and said, ‘Do you want to do a movie with Jennifer Garner? It’s this drama,'” he told People magazine. “I thought, ‘I love Jennifer Garner. She’s a wonderful actress and she’s this fantastic movie star. Who wouldn’t want to do that?’ It was a pretty good script and good drama.

“They said, ‘We’re going to go to South Africa for five weeks.’ I said, ‘I can’t go to Africa for five weeks because of my kids and school.’ Everything I do and I don’t do revolves around my family.”

Alec has four small children with his wife Hilaria – Carmen, five, Rafael, three, Leonardo, two, and Romeo, 12 months – and he doesn’t want to miss a single milestone.

“As they’re growing up in that slow-motion way that you watch children, they turn this corner, and two weeks later they say something else,” the 61-year-old said. “You see the way that they develop in real time, up close in your own family. There’s nothing more interesting than watching people grow up.”

Alec didn’t reveal which project he was set to star in with Jennifer, but according to IDMB.com, her upcoming work schedule currently includes comedies Yes Day and Fantasy Camp. He has a bunch of projects in the pipeline, including crime drama Motherless Brooklyn, biographical drama Lamborghini: The Legend, and a sequel to The Boss Baby, for which he voices the lead role.

Gwyneth Paltrow has modelled key designs from the newly-launched Goop swimwear collection.

The 46-year-old started her lifestyle empire in 2008, which features health and wellness advice, recipes, non-toxic beauty products and sustainable fashion.

Now, Gwyneth has taken the Goop brand one step further and unveiled a nine-piece swimwear line under her G. Label, which already sells a range of clothing and is “inspired by pieces GP (Gwyneth Paltrow) has worn, loved, and never been able to replace.”

In an accompanying campaign, the Shakespeare in Love actress shows off the chic one and two-piece sets and is seen relaxing on a sun lounger and dipping her toes into a pool.

Made out of Italian double-stretch fabric, the garments come in black and olive colourways, with prices ranging from $170 to $300 (£135 – £239). Designs include a high-neck surf-inspired wet suit, a chic black one-shouldered one-piece, and a convertible bandeau top and matching briefs.

There are also three Italian cotton cover ups, in pale blue and white, with prices starting at $395 (£314).

The mother-of-two managed to surprise plenty of her celebrity friends with the stunning images too, and many rushed to pay Gwyneth compliments after she shared the snaps on Instagram.

“The suit is not (what) I would like to purchase. Abs for $20.00, please,” Jennifer Garner quipped, while Demi Moore simply commented with a series of fire emojis.

“Omg you are something else,” she gushed.

The swimwear collection is now available to buy on the Goop website.

Jennifer Garner has celebrated the 15th anniversary of 13 Going on 30 with a tribute to the cast.

Directed by Gary Winick, the 2004 romcom starred Christa B. Allen as Jenna Rink, a girl who makes a wish on her 13th birthday and wakes up the next day as a 30-year-old woman, as played by Jennifer. The film also featured appearances from Judy Greer and Andy Serkis, as well as Mark Ruffalo as the love interest.

To mark the occasion, the actress took to Instagram on Tuesday (23Apr19) to gush over the film’s enduring appeal and also praised her young co-stars – including Pretty Little Liars’ Ashley Benson and Captain Marvel star Brie Larson – who have gone on to carve out their own Hollywood careers.

“Fifteen years ago today #13GoingOn30 made her debut, directed with (love) by our beloved Gary Winick and a clutch of loving, hardcore producers (3 brilliant women-before it was cool to be led by women!)” she wrote. “The movie benefitted from the performances of so many young actresses. Open and twinkly-magical then- now, 15 years later, they are ruling the world. (Hi #SixChicks – @brielarson, @ashleybenson, @christabrittany – who also played a young me in (2009 movie) Ghosts of Girlfriends Past – and my own sweet @revjuliaroth).”

Jennifer also uploaded a clip of the slumber party scene in the film, in which her character invites young girls to her apartment for a fun sleepover and they dance to Pat Benatar’s Love Is a Battlefield. She gave a shoutout to the actresses – Maddy Sprung-Keyser, Gia Mantegna, Catherine Combs, Sydni Beaudoin, Sara Swain, and Renee Olstead – who appeared in the sequence and updated fans of the movie on what they are doing now.

“I loved my day with this slumber party crew: they danced with abandon and reminded me of the power of just saying yes – to being in a group, to vulnerability, to wearing a bra over your clothes. At the last minute, I tossed my adopted LA family member Maddy Sprung-Keyser into the scene. @maddsk went on to be an Academic All American swimmer at Amherst, got her law degree from NYU, and is producing podcasts for @pineapple.fm. Looking back into her adolescence – with the hair and the men not wanting to jump her bones – is extra special today. Imagine if every 13-year-old girl had an opportunity to dance and feel beautiful like the girls in this film. I am proud of all of you,” the 47-year-old shared.

To conclude, Jennifer commented that she was “so lucky” to have made the movie, and noted that it has only grown in popularity, with Ariana Grande paying homage to some scenes in her Thank U, Next video.

“I feel so, so lucky to have had the experience of making this joyful movie. And even luckier to be part of something that, all of these years later, can still make people (hi, @arianagrande) smile,” she added.

Rachel Zoe is gearing up to make a return to reality TV with a new fashion competition series.

The designer and stylist, known for her boho-chic aesthetic and work with celebrities such as Nicole Richie, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Garner, and Kate Hudson, starred in her own Bravo show, The Rachel Zoe Project, for five seasons between 2008 and 2013.

Now, Zoe has announced that she has teamed with TV producer Mark Burnett and executives at MGM Television on a fresh project, which aims to find undiscovered designers.

“This is the show I have always wanted to make,” she said in a statement. “The show will spotlight some of the most talented designers from around the world, and I am thrilled to be able to highlight their work. I have the utmost respect for Mark Burnett and the team at MGM – this is my dream partnership.”

The TV show, which is currently untitled, will bring together an array of design talent from around the world. Competing designers will have to work on original creations, with part of the format seeing the items put up for sale online after each episode has aired.

Sean Kelly and Steve Hughes of Shaggy Entertainment came up with the concept, and will serve as executive producers alongside Zoe, Burnett, and Barry Poznick.

Regarding the concept, Burnett, chairman of MGM’s Worldwide Television Group, commented that he was thrilled to be collaborating with Zoe.

“I love fashion and have wanted to do a show in this space for quite some time. We are thrilled to have Rachel Zoe on board for this epic global fashion showdown that will bring trendsetting designs to your doorstep. Rachel is the epitome of style and fashion,” he shared.

Zoe’s new show comes after Project Runway has undergone a shake-up for season 17, with Karlie Kloss taking over as host from Heidi Klum and Christian Siriano succeeding Tim Gunn as a mentor. Klum and Gunn are currently working on a new fashion competition programme for Amazon Video.

Ben Affleck has insisted he “loves” the giant phoenix tattoo on his back, despite others being less than complimentary about it.

The actor was pictured showing off the impressive inking as he enjoyed a swim session at a beach with his Triple Frontier co-stars Charlie Hunnam, Oscar Isaac, and Garrett Hedlund last year (18) – with the images dividing opinion among fans.

While the majority, including his ex-fiancee Jennifer Lopez, were less than impressed with the huge etching, Ben said during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, airing on Thursday (14Mar19), that he’s unconcerned by the backlash.

“It’s meaningful to me, I like it. It’s not something I kept private, it wasn’t like I was doing photoshoots – we were sort of two hours north of the city on some island in Hawaii and we didn’t know that the paparazzi was there,” he said. “So, they got a picture of my tattoo, and the sentiment ran against.

“I love my tattoo and I’m very happy with it. Luckily, I’m the one who has it.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Ben spoke about reaching a happy, healthy place in his life, after various stints in rehab centres.

“It’s interesting, it’s sort of – there’s temptation to get depressed if I think, ‘Oh that was hard, and this was hard,’ or I could be kind of embarrassed, but I have to say, I feel so good now, I’m in such a great place, my kids are healthy, you know life is good,” the 46-year-old mused. “So, it’s like, whatever it took for me to get to this place, I’m grateful.”

Ben shares three children with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, and admitted that while their co-parenting sometimes leads to different rules in different houses, the fact their kids are only allowed to watch Ellen’s talk show is something he and his former spouse agree on.

“In split families, you kind of go back and forth and you sort of want to come to an agreement on rules. I’m a little more liberal on the screen side of things, video games and TV, but this is something we can both agree on,” he smiled.

Jennifer Garner on 4% challenge: ‘I’ve been working with women directors for years’

Jennifer Garner has thrown her weight behind the 4% challenge, which sees Hollywood stars pledge to work with female directors.

Actors and actresses are being challenged to work with more women filmmakers over the next 18 months to increase the number of women and women of colour behind the camera – an initiative launched by Time’s Up and the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative at the Sundance Film Festival.

Explaining how she has long been a champion of the idea, even before it became a talking point, Jennifer told Time’s Up chief executive Lisa Borders at the 2019 Makers Conference on Thursday (07Feb19) she’s totally on board with the idea.

“To me, I’ve done two films with women, and a TV show driven by women and directed mostly by women, so I feel like oh is it a challenge?” she said. “Oh yeah, no I’m down, I’ve got that. I didn’t know that we had to announce it. I announce that I will take the 4% challenge.

“And you know what, those sets are different. They are different… Whoever is leading the charge it’s reflected in the crew, it’s reflected in the way the ship is run and just the difference kinds of conversations you have on set.”

Earlier this week, Chris Pratt also said he was happily taking on the challenge. During a joint interview with his The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part co-star Elizabeth Banks, who is an accomplished director as well as actress, Chris blindly signed on to star in her next project without knowing any details.

“I’m here and ready for it. I’m in the 4% and I would love for people to get involved,” Elizabeth said to Press Association. “I’ve got movie roles ready to go, Chris is committing to my next film.”

Chris chimed in: “I am, yep. Nope, I don’t even know what it is but I told her I’m in. That’s my agent on the phone but I’m not even going to answer it, let’s do it, because it’s in.”

They then shook on it before Chris joke whispered: “What’s the movie?”

Brie Larson, Tessa Thompson, Amy Schumer, Bryce Dallas Howard and Kyra Sedgwick have also pledged their support, along with executives from Universal Pictures, MGM Studios, Paramount Pictures and Disney.

Director Pierre Morel has labelled his new film Peppermint as a “justice” movie.

The action film stars Jennifer Garner as lead character Riley North, a woman who seeks vigilante justice after her husband and daughter are killed in a drive-by shooting by members of a cartel.

However, Pierre is adamant that the flick is much more than a revenge story.

“I don’t see it as a revenge movie. I don’t think there’s anything satisfying in revenge,” he told Slash Film. “I think revenge is an extremely negative and dark feeling… She’s coming back for a certain form of justice whether it’s right or wrong, but it’s more of a justice movie or self-justice movie.”

For the part, Jennifer shows off the action skills she honed on the sets of Alias and Daredevil. But the From Paris with Love helmer Pierre is sure that the actress pushed herself to train harder than she had ever done before in the lead-up to the shoot.

“We tried to make sure that everything she had to do would be realistic and feasible. She’s not a superhero in this movie. She’s not going to fly in the air so we had to make choreography that made sense. That’s what dictated the way she fights,” the 54-year-old explained.

When it came to fight scenes, Jennifer worked alongside stunt coordinator Keith Woulard, with the pair exhibiting a military fighting style.

And while Pierre has been renowned for establishing Liam Neeson as an action hero in 2008 action-thriller Taken, he doesn’t plan on continuing to making films in the same genre.

“I just want to make good movies with good characters. I don’t know what to say. No one came to me like, ‘Okay, make me the next Liam Neeson.’ No, never happened, ever,” he smiled.
