Josh Hutcherson found that filming The Hunger Games movies was similar to being at college.

The 27-year-old played baker’s son Peeta Mellark in each of the four movies in the hit franchise, alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, and Stanley Tucci.

And the actor doesn’t feel like he ever missed out on going to college, as filming The Hunger Games was a similar experience.

“It was like my college,” Josh told Entertainment Weekly. “That was like such a coming-of-age time for me. It was the first time I was away from my family, and on my own.”

He also revealed that if he was offered the role of Peeta now, he would think twice about accepting, as starring in a hugely popular franchise, which has grossed more than $2.9 billion (£2.3 billion) worldwide, wasn’t something wanted to do with his career.

“It was worlds apart from anything I have ever experienced. It’s like a double-edged sword,” he shared. “But when I set out to become an actor at eight, being famous and being recognised was not on my radar. I just wanted to make movies.”

“That naivete followed me until slapped me in the face,” Josh added, noting the worldwide fame that came with starring in the saga. “It made me realise the kind of actor I wanted to be. The idea of doing big, big projects that make you even more well-known doesn’t sound as appetising. If that opportunity came up again, I would have to think about it more.”

Cate Blanchett is joining Jennifer Lawrence in Adam McKay’s upcoming disaster comedy Don’t Look Up.

The two-time Oscar winner has signed on to star in the director’s new film, which will be the first of his movies to feature exclusively on Netflix, according to Variety.

Don’t Look Up was announced with Lawrence in the lead role back in February. It follows a low-level astronomer who goes on a giant media tour with a fellow stargazer to warn mankind of a fast-approaching asteroid that is set to destroy Earth.

Production on the movie, which is being written by McKay, was slated to begin in April ahead of a release later this year, but it is currently unknown when production is expected to start given the ongoing lockdown orders in Hollywood and across the world.

Blanchett is also attached to star in James Gray’s next film Armageddon Times, which draws on the Ad Astra’s director’s own experiences as a student in the 1980s at the Kew-Forest School in the Queens borough of New York.

The private education institution counts U.S. President Donald Trump and actor Hank Azaria among its former students, and the movie will reportedly revolve around the headmaster of the prestigious school.

The news comes shortly after it was announced the Australian actress would be starring in the big-screen adaptation of the popular video game Borderlands, which is to be directed by Hostel filmmaker Eli Roth.

She had also finished shooting her role in Guillermo del Toro’s thriller Nightmare Alley with Bradley Cooper before production was shut down due to the coronavirus outbreak.

A prequel to The Hunger Games movie franchise is in the works.

Suzanne Collins’s popular young adult novel trilogy was adapted into four hugely successful films starring Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and Josh Hutcherson between 2012 and 2015.

Officials at Lionsgate, the studio behind the franchise, announced on Tuesday that they would also be making a movie adaptation of Collins’s upcoming prequel novel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which is due to be released on 19 May.

“Suzanne’s new book has been worth the wait. It offers everything fans could hope for and expect from The Hunger Games while also breaking new ground and introducing an entirely new canvas of characters,” said Joe Drake, chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, in a statement.

The new novel follows an 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow, who would eventually rise to become the tyrannical ruler of the dystopian nation of Panem, and the central villain of the original Hunger Games series.

Snow, who was portrayed by Donald Sutherland in the franchise, is chosen to be a mentor for 10th annual Hunger Games, for a young girl from District 12, the future home of Lawrence’s heroine Katniss Everdeen.

Collins, who will also serve as an executive producer of the new film, added, “Lionsgate has always been the cinematic home of The Hunger Games, and I’m delighted to be returning to them with this new book.”

The prequel adaptation will serve a reunion for some behind-the-scenes crew. Francis Lawrence – no relation to Jennifer Lawrence – will return to the director’s chair after helming Catching Fire, Mockingjay – Part 1, and Mockingjay – Part 2, while Nina Jacobson, who produced all of the films in the franchise, will produce the latest film, along with her partner Brad Simpson.

Collins will write the film’s treatment and Michael Arndt, who previously helped write Catching Fire, will adapt the screenplay.

Jennifer Lawrence has joined Adam McKay’s new Netflix comedy, Don’t Look Up.

In the movie, the Oscar-winning actress will play a low-level astronomer who goes on a giant media tour with a fellow stargazer to warn mankind of a fast-approaching asteroid that is set to destroy Earth.

McKay, who has written the script, will direct and produce under his Hyperobject Industries banner with Kevin Messick.

And The Big Short filmmaker is excited to be working with the 29-year-old for the first time.

“I’m so thrilled to make this movie with Jen Lawrence. She’s what folks in the 17th century used to call ‘a dynamite act,” he said. “And the fact that Netflix sees this movie as a worldwide comedy sets the bar high for me and my team in an exciting and motivating way.”

Production will begin in April, with Don’t Look Up to be released later this year.

Scott Stuber, head of film at Netflix, added that he was thrilled to welcome McKay to the streaming service.

“Adam has always had great timing when it comes to making smart, relevant and irreverent films that depict our culture. Even if he somehow ends up predicting planet Earth’s imminent demise, we’re excited to add this to our slate before it all comes to an end,” he shared.

Lawrence is also working on another project with McKay – a biographical thriller titled Bad Blood. In the flick, she will portray Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of controversial blood-testing company Theranos.

Meanwhile, the star recently wrapped production on Lila Neugebauer’s untitled film for studio A24 and is also set to appear in Mob Girl, directed by Paolo Sorrentino.

Margot Robbie has joined Christian Bale in David O. Russell’s new drama.

It has been announced that the Birds of Prey actress has signed on to star in the movie, which will be directed from Russell from his own script. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it will reportedly follow the story of an unlikely partnership between a doctor and a lawyer.

Robbie will join Bale on the project, which has the working title of Amsterdam. Jamie Foxx and Angelina Jolie are reportedly being eyed for roles.

It was previously reported that the Australian actress, who was up for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars on Sunday, was being touted as one of the leading ladies on the movie, alongside Russell’s frequent collaborator Jennifer Lawrence.

Matthew Budman is set to produce the film, which is being fast-tracked by bosses at New Regency and is part of their new deal with 20th Century Studios.

The filmmaker likes to reunite with actors he has already worked with on past movies. For example, Russell and Bale previously collaborated on The Fighter and American Hustle to great success.

The Fighter scored seven Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Russell, while American Hustle was up for 10 awards, with Bale landing a Best Actor nod.

This marks part of Russell’s comeback after he took a five-year hiatus from Hollywood following the release of his movie Joy in 2015. He is also working on an adaptation of 2013 novel The Skies Belong to Us, with Michael B. Jordan attached to star and also produce.

Christian Bale is set to reunite with director David O. Russell for a star-studded new movie.

The 45-year-old, who previously worked with the writer and filmmaker on The Fighter and American Hustle, is one of the leading men in the film, according to editors at Deadline.

It is understood that the project will follow the story of an unlikely partnership between a doctor and a lawyer.

Bale, who won an Academy Award in 2011 for his role in The Fighter, will reportedly be joined by fellow Oscar winners Jamie Foxx and Angelina Jolie for the project, which has the working title of Amsterdam.

Russell’s frequent collaborator Jennifer Lawrence is also being touted as a potential female lead in the drama, alongside Margot Robbie.

Matthew Budman is set to produce the film, which is being fast-tracked by bosses at New Regency and is part of their new deal with Fox/Disney.

Production is expected to begin in April, and while Bale is rumoured to be playing the villain in the upcoming Marvel Studios blockbuster, Thor: Love and Thunder, that won’t begin filming until later this summer.

Russell hasn’t made a movie since Joy back in 2015, but has been working on a new project based on the book The Skies Belong to Us, with Michael B. Jordan attached to star and also produce.

The Fighter scored seven Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Russell, while American Hustle was up for 10 awards, with Bale landing a Best Actor nod.

Adele has given fans another glimpse of her svelte new figure by sharing pictures from a recent Christmas party.

The 31-year-old shared two snaps from the festive bash on Instagram on Monday, showing off her staggering weight loss, which is estimated to be around 42 pounds (19 kilograms), while wearing a black silk dress.

“We both tried to ruin Christmas but then both our hearts grew! Thank you for coming to my party and making us feel like kids Grinch,” Adele wrote alongside the black-and-white pictures of her posing with The Grinch and Santa Claus. “Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone x.”

The mother-of-one paired her dress with pieces of costume jewellery, her signature red lipstick and chic waves in her shoulder-length hair.

“The only Christmas present I need!” one fan commented on the post, while another gushed: “YOU LOOK AMAZING GO OFF QUEEN.”

The Hello hitmaker has been steadily shedding the pounds since she split from her long-term partner Simon Konecki earlier this year. The couple, who share seven-year-old son Angelo, announced their separation in a statement in April, after eight years together.

Adele first debuted her dramatic weight loss at the end of October, when she attended Drake’s star-studded 33rd birthday bash in Hollywood wearing an off-the-shoulder black velvet dress.

“I used to cry but now I sweat,” she wrote alongside snaps of her from the party, referencing her new workout regime.

According to People, the Grammy winner takes part in regular sessions with private trainer Dalton Wong, who has worked with her close friend Jennifer Lawrence, Pilates classes, and workouts at Rise Nation.

Gisele Bundchen has been named the face of Dior’s anti-ageing skincare range, Capture Totale.

The Brazilian supermodel will appear in a new print and digital advertising campaign for the line, which features a serum, foundation, and eye cream, next year.

Gisele will be joining fellow model Cara Delevingne, who is currently the face of the French fashion house’s skincare collections, Capture Youth and Capture Dreamskin.

Claude Martinez, president and chief executive officer of Parfums Christian Dior, described Gisele, 39, as an “iconic muse” and the perfect fit for the Capture Totale range.

“Inner beauty nourishes, regenerates and radiates infinite external beauty with its full power and vital energy,” he said in a statement, according to WWD. “Today, we are celebrating a supermodel glowing with health, who is an accomplished, stunningly beautiful woman, and of course, the iconic muse of conscious beauty, who joins us to convey and celebrate the house of Dior values.”

Cara, 27, was unveiled as the face of the anti-ageing skincare collection back in 2017, and joined the likes of Bella Hadid and Jennifer Lawrence as a Dior Beauty brand ambassador.

The Capture Totale line uses stem cell technology. Prices start at $82 (£66) for a triple correcting powder foundation, while the multi-perfecting serum costs around $240 (£195).

The model and environmental activist previously served as the face of Brazilian cosmetic company O Boticario and Chanel’s Les Beiges make-up campaign.

Dior has advocated for sustainability and the environment by holding its spring/summer 2020 show in an “inclusive garden”.

Creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri unveiled her latest line for the French luxury label at the Longchamp Racecourse as part of Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday, with the spectacle attracting celebrities including Jennifer Lawrence, Julianne Moore, Isabelle Huppert, and Chiara Ferragni.

Teaming with members of the Coloco collective of botanists and landscape designers, Chiuri had the venue transformed into a garden, featuring 164 trees that will later be planted in the French capital, with the idea to turn the “ephemeral” nature of a fashion show into an event which will have a second life.

“We have to educate ourselves. I don’t know if we can arrive at a point where we can say we are sustainable. But I think we can do our best to impact less,” the designer told Vogue.com of her inspiration. “We have to be transparent with our audience. Fashion can do a lot, because it has the power to affect the choices of its audiences.”

The show kicked off with a model sporting a blue shirt, black and white romper, black worker boots and black woven hat, with the look referencing relaxed gardening attire. A range of beige dresses with botanical-inspired prints, loose jackets with large pockets, belted crochet numbers, and striped knitwear followed.

Partway through the presentation, Chiuri introduced several flowing chiffon dresses with delicate floral prints, denim separates, and touches of grey tie-dye, with the outfits matched with espadrilles.

Emphasising the theme even further, many of the models wore pigtail braids, evoking the hairstyle of 16-year-old Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg, while many of the floral designs on dresses and shirts were a nod to the work of brand founder Christian Dior’s sister, Catherine Dior, who had a passion for gardening.

To conclude the show, Chiuri had models parade the catwalk in tailored grey suiting, pretty white dresses with tiered skirts, and belted gowns that could also work for the red carpet.

Paris Fashion Week continues on Wednesday with shows from Lanvin and Mugler.

Jennifer Lawrence is to portray a real-life mob wife-turned-police informant in Paolo Sorrentino’s new movie Mob Girl.

The Italian director has signed on to make Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Teresa Carpenter’s non-fiction crime story Mob Girl into a new film, and Oscar winner Lawrence will star as Arlyne Brickman.

The plot will follow Brickman, who grows up among racketeers on the Lower East Side of New York City, where she’s drawn to the glamorous and flashy lifestyle of New York mobsters. Soon after, she begins dating “wiseguys” and running errands for them, before getting in on the action herself – eventually becoming a police informant and a major witness in the government’s case against the Colombo crime family.

The Silver Linings Playbook star will also produce the project alongside Justine Polsky for their production company Excellent Cadaver, as will The Young Pope director and Lorenzo Mieli, while Angelina Burnett is adapting the script from Carpenter’s book, Mob Girl: A Woman’s Life in the Underworld.

“Seeing this story from a woman’s point of view is a fresh and exciting approach to telling a classic mob story,” said Brad Weston, founder and chief executive of studio Makeready, as he announced the project on Wednesday. “We could not imagine a more perfect team of stellar filmmakers, with Jennifer starring in a tour de force role and Paolo at the helm, to bring Arlyne’s strength and unique perspective to life on screen.”

The Mob Girl film marks the first project under the new first-look deal between Lawrence’s Excellent Cadaver company and Makeready.

The 28-year-old was recently seen reprising the role of Raven / Mystique in X-Men: Dark Phoenix and is currently in production on an untitled soldier film. She was recently announced as the star of director Adam McKay’s next biographical drama, Bad Blood, about real-life entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes.

Oscar winner Sorrentino is currently filming The New Pope with Jude Law.
