Jennifer Lawrence has joined Adam McKay’s new Netflix comedy, Don’t Look Up.

In the movie, the Oscar-winning actress will play a low-level astronomer who goes on a giant media tour with a fellow stargazer to warn mankind of a fast-approaching asteroid that is set to destroy Earth.

McKay, who has written the script, will direct and produce under his Hyperobject Industries banner with Kevin Messick.

And The Big Short filmmaker is excited to be working with the 29-year-old for the first time.

“I’m so thrilled to make this movie with Jen Lawrence. She’s what folks in the 17th century used to call ‘a dynamite act,” he said. “And the fact that Netflix sees this movie as a worldwide comedy sets the bar high for me and my team in an exciting and motivating way.”

Production will begin in April, with Don’t Look Up to be released later this year.

Scott Stuber, head of film at Netflix, added that he was thrilled to welcome McKay to the streaming service.

“Adam has always had great timing when it comes to making smart, relevant and irreverent films that depict our culture. Even if he somehow ends up predicting planet Earth’s imminent demise, we’re excited to add this to our slate before it all comes to an end,” he shared.

Lawrence is also working on another project with McKay – a biographical thriller titled Bad Blood. In the flick, she will portray Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of controversial blood-testing company Theranos.

Meanwhile, the star recently wrapped production on Lila Neugebauer’s untitled film for studio A24 and is also set to appear in Mob Girl, directed by Paolo Sorrentino.

Margot Robbie has joined Christian Bale in David O. Russell’s new drama.

It has been announced that the Birds of Prey actress has signed on to star in the movie, which will be directed from Russell from his own script. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it will reportedly follow the story of an unlikely partnership between a doctor and a lawyer.

Robbie will join Bale on the project, which has the working title of Amsterdam. Jamie Foxx and Angelina Jolie are reportedly being eyed for roles.

It was previously reported that the Australian actress, who was up for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars on Sunday, was being touted as one of the leading ladies on the movie, alongside Russell’s frequent collaborator Jennifer Lawrence.

Matthew Budman is set to produce the film, which is being fast-tracked by bosses at New Regency and is part of their new deal with 20th Century Studios.

The filmmaker likes to reunite with actors he has already worked with on past movies. For example, Russell and Bale previously collaborated on The Fighter and American Hustle to great success.

The Fighter scored seven Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Russell, while American Hustle was up for 10 awards, with Bale landing a Best Actor nod.

This marks part of Russell’s comeback after he took a five-year hiatus from Hollywood following the release of his movie Joy in 2015. He is also working on an adaptation of 2013 novel The Skies Belong to Us, with Michael B. Jordan attached to star and also produce.

Bale, who won an Academy Award in 2011 for his role in The Fighter, will reportedly be joined by fellow Oscar winners Jamie Foxx and Angelina Jolie for the project, which has the working title of Amsterdam.

Russell’s frequent collaborator Jennifer Lawrence is also being touted as a potential female lead in the drama, alongside Margot Robbie.

Production is expected to begin in April, and while Bale is rumoured to be playing the villain in the upcoming Marvel Studios blockbuster, Thor: Love and Thunder, that won’t begin filming until later this summer.

Russell hasn’t made a movie since Joy back in 2015, but has been working on a new project based on the book The Skies Belong to Us, with Michael B. Jordan attached to star and also produce.

The Fighter scored seven Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Russell, while American Hustle was up for 10 awards, with Bale landing a Best Actor nod.

Adele has given fans another glimpse of her svelte new figure by sharing pictures from a recent Christmas party.

The 31-year-old shared two snaps from the festive bash on Instagram on Monday, showing off her staggering weight loss, which is estimated to be around 42 pounds (19 kilograms), while wearing a black silk dress.

“We both tried to ruin Christmas but then both our hearts grew! Thank you for coming to my party and making us feel like kids Grinch,” Adele wrote alongside the black-and-white pictures of her posing with The Grinch and Santa Claus. “Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone x.”

The mother-of-one paired her dress with pieces of costume jewellery, her signature red lipstick and chic waves in her shoulder-length hair.

“The only Christmas present I need!” one fan commented on the post, while another gushed: “YOU LOOK AMAZING GO OFF QUEEN.”

The Hello hitmaker has been steadily shedding the pounds since she split from her long-term partner Simon Konecki earlier this year. The couple, who share seven-year-old son Angelo, announced their separation in a statement in April, after eight years together.

Adele first debuted her dramatic weight loss at the end of October, when she attended Drake’s star-studded 33rd birthday bash in Hollywood wearing an off-the-shoulder black velvet dress.

“I used to cry but now I sweat,” she wrote alongside snaps of her from the party, referencing her new workout regime.

According to People, the Grammy winner takes part in regular sessions with private trainer Dalton Wong, who has worked with her close friend Jennifer Lawrence, Pilates classes, and workouts at Rise Nation.

Gisele Bundchen has been named the face of Dior’s anti-ageing skincare range, Capture Totale.

The Brazilian supermodel will appear in a new print and digital advertising campaign for the line, which features a serum, foundation, and eye cream, next year.

Gisele will be joining fellow model Cara Delevingne, who is currently the face of the French fashion house’s skincare collections, Capture Youth and Capture Dreamskin.

Claude Martinez, president and chief executive officer of Parfums Christian Dior, described Gisele, 39, as an “iconic muse” and the perfect fit for the Capture Totale range.

“Inner beauty nourishes, regenerates and radiates infinite external beauty with its full power and vital energy,” he said in a statement, according to WWD. “Today, we are celebrating a supermodel glowing with health, who is an accomplished, stunningly beautiful woman, and of course, the iconic muse of conscious beauty, who joins us to convey and celebrate the house of Dior values.”

Cara, 27, was unveiled as the face of the anti-ageing skincare collection back in 2017, and joined the likes of Bella Hadid and Jennifer Lawrence as a Dior Beauty brand ambassador.

The Capture Totale line uses stem cell technology. Prices start at $82 (£66) for a triple correcting powder foundation, while the multi-perfecting serum costs around $240 (£195).

The model and environmental activist previously served as the face of Brazilian cosmetic company O Boticario and Chanel’s Les Beiges make-up campaign.

Dior has advocated for sustainability and the environment by holding its spring/summer 2020 show in an “inclusive garden”.

Creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri unveiled her latest line for the French luxury label at the Longchamp Racecourse as part of Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday, with the spectacle attracting celebrities including Jennifer Lawrence, Julianne Moore, Isabelle Huppert, and Chiara Ferragni.

Teaming with members of the Coloco collective of botanists and landscape designers, Chiuri had the venue transformed into a garden, featuring 164 trees that will later be planted in the French capital, with the idea to turn the “ephemeral” nature of a fashion show into an event which will have a second life.

“We have to educate ourselves. I don’t know if we can arrive at a point where we can say we are sustainable. But I think we can do our best to impact less,” the designer told Vogue.com of her inspiration. “We have to be transparent with our audience. Fashion can do a lot, because it has the power to affect the choices of its audiences.”

The show kicked off with a model sporting a blue shirt, black and white romper, black worker boots and black woven hat, with the look referencing relaxed gardening attire. A range of beige dresses with botanical-inspired prints, loose jackets with large pockets, belted crochet numbers, and striped knitwear followed.

Partway through the presentation, Chiuri introduced several flowing chiffon dresses with delicate floral prints, denim separates, and touches of grey tie-dye, with the outfits matched with espadrilles.

Emphasising the theme even further, many of the models wore pigtail braids, evoking the hairstyle of 16-year-old Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg, while many of the floral designs on dresses and shirts were a nod to the work of brand founder Christian Dior’s sister, Catherine Dior, who had a passion for gardening.

To conclude the show, Chiuri had models parade the catwalk in tailored grey suiting, pretty white dresses with tiered skirts, and belted gowns that could also work for the red carpet.

Paris Fashion Week continues on Wednesday with shows from Lanvin and Mugler.

Jennifer Lawrence is to portray a real-life mob wife-turned-police informant in Paolo Sorrentino’s new movie Mob Girl.

The Italian director has signed on to make Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Teresa Carpenter’s non-fiction crime story Mob Girl into a new film, and Oscar winner Lawrence will star as Arlyne Brickman.

The plot will follow Brickman, who grows up among racketeers on the Lower East Side of New York City, where she’s drawn to the glamorous and flashy lifestyle of New York mobsters. Soon after, she begins dating “wiseguys” and running errands for them, before getting in on the action herself – eventually becoming a police informant and a major witness in the government’s case against the Colombo crime family.

The Silver Linings Playbook star will also produce the project alongside Justine Polsky for their production company Excellent Cadaver, as will The Young Pope director and Lorenzo Mieli, while Angelina Burnett is adapting the script from Carpenter’s book, Mob Girl: A Woman’s Life in the Underworld.

“Seeing this story from a woman’s point of view is a fresh and exciting approach to telling a classic mob story,” said Brad Weston, founder and chief executive of studio Makeready, as he announced the project on Wednesday. “We could not imagine a more perfect team of stellar filmmakers, with Jennifer starring in a tour de force role and Paolo at the helm, to bring Arlyne’s strength and unique perspective to life on screen.”

The Mob Girl film marks the first project under the new first-look deal between Lawrence’s Excellent Cadaver company and Makeready.

The 28-year-old was recently seen reprising the role of Raven / Mystique in X-Men: Dark Phoenix and is currently in production on an untitled soldier film. She was recently announced as the star of director Adam McKay’s next biographical drama, Bad Blood, about real-life entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes.

Oscar winner Sorrentino is currently filming The New Pope with Jude Law.

Jennifer Lawrence has already settled upon a dress for her wedding day.

The Hunger Games actress got engaged to art dealer Cooke Maroney in February after a whirlwind romance, and they celebrated their impending nuptials with an engagement party in New York, where they’re based, in May.

She hasn’t revealed when the big day will take place, but during an appearance on the Naked with Catt Sadler podcast, Jennifer explained that she already has some important decisions ticked off her to-do list.

“I’ve been in a good place,” the 28-year-old said. “I haven’t been neurotic about (wedding planning). I’m like too lazy to be neurotic. I saw a dress I liked, and I was like, ‘That’s the dress.’ I saw a venue and I was like, ‘Cool, we got the venue.'”

The Oscar-winning actress, who serves as a brand ambassador for French luxury fashion house Christian Dior, also admitted the only time she had a “bridezilla moment” and broke down in tears was when she changed her mind about having a bachelorette party and discovered a lot of her friends couldn’t come.

“I thought I didn’t want to have a bachelorette party, and then last minute I decided I did,” Jennifer explained. “Then nobody was available because it was last minute. And then I started crying. I was like, ‘I don’t even know why I’m crying. I didn’t know that I wanted a bachelorette party. I guess I just feel pathetic.’ (Cooke) was like, ‘Oh my God, you don’t need to feel pathetic.'”

Jennifer added that she is rescheduling the party with her friends and is preparing to head back to work in New Orleans, Louisiana.

James McAvoy has confirmed the ending of X-Men: Dark Phoenix was reshot due to “parallels” with another superhero film.

The Scottish actor reprises his role as Charles Xavier / Professor X in the latest instalment of the Marvel Comics franchise, with the new movie focusing on how Jean Grey, as played by Sophie Turner, loses control of her telepathic and telekinetic powers and becomes the Phoenix.

However, McAvoy has now shared in an interview with Yahoo Movies UK that the third act of the feature was totally re-written as it bore a resemblance to another movie in production at the time.

“The end (of Dark Phoenix) changed a hell of a lot. The finale had to change. For the better. There was a lot of overlap and parallels with another superhero movie that came out… a while ago. And we had no idea that we were,” he stated, while his co-star Michael Fassbender, who plays Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto, interjected: “They had spies on set and (they) basically stole our ideas. Infiltrated.”

“We were basically trawling through the source material, it seems,” McAvoy added.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix began filming in June 2017, though director Simon Kinberg spent over a year in the post-production phase, with studio executives forced to delay the film’s release twice.

While McAvoy refused to comment on which other film he was referring to, there have been numerous Marvel and DC superhero movies made within the same period, including Thor: Ragnarok, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Infinity War, Aquaman and Avengers: Endgame.

Elsewhere, Turner spoke about the changes to the ending of the flick, and added: “I think it’s so much better for the reshoots. It was just one of those things… you watched the first two acts and the third act just didn’t feel cohesive. We went back and we redid all of the third act pretty much and it was such a good decision. I mean, the third act is the best part of the movie, for me.”

X-Men: Dark Phoenix, also featuring Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult, hits cinemas from 5 June.

Saint Laurent showcased glow in the dark creations in what was a fun and exciting Paris Fashion Week presentation on Tuesday (26Feb19).

Creative director Anthony Vaccarello went all out with the Saint Laurent fall 2019 collection, with neon shoes, dresses and sunglasses all shining bright when the runway was lit with purple ultraviolet light towards the end of the show.

Among the most eye-catching looks was an ostrich feathered minidress, which turned into black and pink stripes under the ultraviolet light, and a pair of acid orange pumps.

The glow in the dark pieces were just one aspect of the Eighties trend Vaccarello explored with his new collection. Structured shoulders are part of the new YSL silhouette, with a stunning cream coat and jewelled top among the items which sported exaggerated shoulders. Pants were noticeably absent from the collection, with Saint Laurent instead showcasing tiny skirts and shorts worn over polka dot tights as part of their take on power dressing.

Saint Laurent wasn’t the only big name to showcase at Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday. Stars including newly-engaged Jennifer Lawrence flocked to the front row of the Dior show, where Maria Grazia Chiuri paid “homage to the alchemist of elegance and beauty, Karl Lagerfeld”, according to the show notes. Chanel legend Lagerfeld died earlier this month, aged 85.

Chiuri took inspiration from the concept of sorority for Dior’s new collection, and presented her new take on 50’s femininity as she debuted pieces such as full skirts and an updated version of the traditional ballgown.

Each and every model wore a Stephen Jones-designed bucket hat, many of which included a net veil covering the eyes, with checked raincoats and black wellington boots also proving that the Dior girl is more than prepared for an autumn shower.

Feminist slogan T-shirts were also a standout piece on the runway, with models sporting tops featuring slogans such as “Sisterhood Is Global”, “Sisterhood is Powerful” and “Sisterhood is Forever”, referring to feminist texts by American poet Robin Morgan.
