Jennifer Lawrence came face to face with her ex Darren Aronofsky when she presented the honours at the Brooklyn Academy of Music Gala on Wednesday (30May18).

The Oscar-winning actress presented an honourary award to her director ex as the evening celebrated a number of creatives for their commitment to the arts.

The pair were photographed posing together backstage, and chatting amicably at the gathering ahead of the presentation.

“I’m thrilled to be here tonight to present this honour to my very good friend, Darren Aronofsky,” Lawrence, wearing a sparkling white satin corset dress and strappy heels, told the audience.

An eyewitness told ET that Lawrence was in “great spirits” while introducing her ex to gala guests. However, she didn’t stay to socialise, leaving once her part in the ceremony was over.

Lawrence and Aronofsky split in November last year (17) after a year of dating, which began during the filming of their controversial film Mother!

The 27-year-old had previously attributed the film’s poor reception to the end of their romance, telling Variety at the time that dating a director was “different”.

“I normally just kind of let (bad reviews) go. Dating the director was different. We’d be on the (press) tour together, I’d come back to the hotel, and the last thing I want to talk about or think about is a movie,” she explained to the U.S. publication.

“He comes back from the tour, and that’s all he wants to talk about and I get it,” she sighed. “It’s his baby. He wrote it. He conceived it. He directed it. I was doing double duty trying to be a supportive partner, while also being like, ‘Can I please, for the love of God, not think about mother! for one second?'”

Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita Nyong’o and Sandra Bullock took inspiration from the Oscars statuette itself as they donned glittering gold dresses for the awards ceremony on Sunday night (04Mar18).

The Red Sparrow actress looked stunning in her sequinned Dior gown, which clung to her figure in all the right places, as she posed for photographers at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The 27-year-old teamed her dress, which featured a corset-style top and flowing bottom, with wavy hair and glamorous but simple make-up. She wasn’t the only famous face to have opted for gold for the ceremony, however. Black Panther star Lupita looked incredible in her Atelier Versace gown and joked on Twitter that the dress was made from Vibranium – a fictional metal found in the Marvel comic book series. “Vibranium by Versace. #Oscars #Wakanda Forever,” she tweeted. Lupita complemented her stunning dress with an unusual and eye-catching hairdo, which saw her locks braided around a gold thread, and was inspired by images of Amasunzu hairstyles traditional to Rwandan culture.

Sandra Bullock was another star who opted for a metallic ensemble, shining on the red carpet in a golden Louis Vuitton dress. She teamed the outfit with poker straight hair and heavy smoky eyes, which gave her look an elegant, rock chick finish.

Gal Gadot followed suit in an equally resplendent Givenchy dress, which she paired with an eye-catching Tiffany & Co. diamond necklace.

Compared to previous years, the fashion on this year’s Oscars red carpet was relatively understated. Elisabeth Moss, Allison Williams, Mira Sorvino and Gina Rodriguez tried their luck in pastel offerings, while Meryl Streep and Allison Janney, who won the supporting actress gong for her role in I, Tonya, looked strikingly similar in long-sleeved red numbers.

Jane Fonda, Laura Dern and Mary J. Blige were white hot on the red carpet, while accents of colour came from Ashley Judd, who looked incredible in a deep purple number, and Jennifer Garner, who turned heads in her breathtaking cobalt blue Atelier Versace gown, finished with a staggering $605,000 (£439,100) worth of jewels.

Jennifer Lawrence can wear what she wants, when she wants, according to her Red Sparrow co-star Jeremy Irons.

At a recent London photocall for the spy thriller, Jennifer donned a plunging Versace gown as she posed outside in the freezing British temperatures. Critics slammed her choice of outfit, with one even tweeting: “True equality means either Jennifer Lawrence getting a coat, or Jeremy Irons having to pose for a photo call in a**less chaps.”

Jennifer, 27, has already blasted online trolls, and now Jeremy has had his say too.

“Well, I did look at my a**less chaps before I went in and decided that it might be a little much and that Jennifer really had more to put on show than I did,” the distinguished actor dead-panned to British newspaper Metro. “I think that it is down to the individual preference and that should be respected. Jennifer wanted to wear that, I wanted to wear what I was wearing and I don’t think anybody should make the decision but the person who is wearing whatever it is they’re wearing.”

He went on to say his colleague is “immensely free, zany and adventurous”, while also praising her “doesn’t give a s**t” attitude.

Later in the interview, Jeremy was asked about his own fitness and diet regime, but the 69-year-old credited his slender frame to good genes.

“My genes, probably. My mother was quite slim,” he mused. “I have a dog, so I walk about an hour a day. I am not that interested in food and I smoke. I think all of that keeps me thin.”

Jennifer Lawrence had an awkward encounter with her Red Sparrow director when she thought he needed to OK the lingerie she wore in one sexy scene.

The actress reteamed with her The Hunger Games director Frances Lawrence for the steamy thriller, in which she plays a spy, and admits she didn’t think twice when she thought he wanted her to model a sexy costume for him.

“I accidentally made a mistake about Francis’ intentions of coming into my dressing room,” she smiles. “He keeps being very respectful throughout the underwear process and finding the right lingerie. When I would go into fittings he wouldn’t take pictures.

“But you know you never really go on camera without the director approving a costume? So I’m in the lingerie and they (assistants) were like, ‘Jennifer, Francis is here to see you’, and I was like, ‘Wait, send him in’. And he walks in and he’s like, ‘Oh my God, what are you doing?’

“I was like, ‘I thought you came to see the costume!’ So there was a lot of laughter throughout the whole thing. The scene with Joel when I was in my underwear, the first time I open the door I gasped and then shut it!”

And Jennifer admits working with a man and a crew who have known her for several years, through The Hunger Games franchise, made Red Sparrow’s sex scenes a little too comfortable at times.

She tells WENN, “It’s funny because I feel like Francis has known me since I was a child. He’s like almost a paternal figure to me. And the camera guys I’ve known since I was little, so it was almost just like being in a nude house. You know, those families who get naked in front of each other, it just felt like that. I think it was way weirder for them.

“I accidentally moved something and flashed the camera guys and they were like, ‘Oh my God!'”

Jennifer Lawrence almost passed on a role in her The Hunger Games director Frances Lawrence’s new movie Red Sparrow, because her character is so sexy.

The Oscar winner admits she had huge reservations about the role of Dominika Egorova in the thriller, but felt she had to sign on for the project, or regret letting someone else play the “amazing” part.

Jennifer reveals the director handed her the script and asked her to consider playing the sexy spy, even though he knew she’d have issues with the film’s hardcore sex scenes and the fact her character was a “sexual weapon”.

“He’s known about my insecurities around sexuality and my fear of being judged, but what he didn’t expect was for me to read the script and actually feel floored by it,” the Mother! star tells WENN.

“It was incredibly empowering and I remember just thinking if I were to miss out on making something that’s absolutely fantastic and playing this amazing character because of these insecurities I would lose.”

During filming, Jennifer actually had more problems with the ballet scenes – because she hated the training she had to do to look like an able ballerina.

“That was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my entire life,” she laughs. “I think halfway through I was like, ‘Oh my God, my overall goal is not to be a ballerina, so I had trouble finding the wherewithall to keep going.

“Halfway through training I started feeling my muscles changing and my body language changing and also understanding the mental and physical discipline and the mindset of a dancer. Then I finished and I just threw my shoes and ripped the tutu off. I was like, ‘I’m out!'”

Jennifer Lawrence found it difficult practising her Russian accent for Red Sparrow, because she knew much of the crew from filming The Hunger Games.

The actress plays a Russian spy in the latest thriller by Francis Lawrence, who also directed the last three instalments of The Hunger Games series. Though Jennifer tried to maintain her character’s accent while on set, she admitted that the company she kept meant the task was much harder than anticipated.

“I tried to stay in the accent, but it’s so hard because I’ve known the crew for so long,” the 27-year-old groaned in an interview with Britain’s Total Film magazine. “So I can’t talk to them in a Russian accent. Next time I do a movie doing an accent, I’m never going to go in and out (of accents) because it makes it so much harder.”

Her latest role brought additional challenges with Jennifer taking up ballet training as she prepared to play Dominika Egorova, who is a ballerina as well as a spy. The Silver Linings Playbook star also had to get to grips with a hard-hitting script that saw her character become a victim of violence and sexual abuse, but shared that cracking jokes between takes always got her through filming the toughest of scenes.

“Joel (Egerton, who plays her love interest in the film) and I are very similar. We’d both be joking and talking about something completely different until ‘action,’” said the Oscar winner. “I can’t imagine staying in a head space and not having fun. Otherwise, why would you do it?” And director Francis agreed, going on to share that Jennifer’s attitude hasn’t changed one bit since playing Katniss Everdeen.

“On the Mockingjay movies, we actually cut a reel together of the moment she switches – because she will be joking and cracking fart jokes right up to the moment you call ‘action,’” he laughed.

Director Francis Lawrence immediately knew Jennifer Lawrence was the one to play Russian spy Dominika in their new movie Red Sparrow.

The filmmaker had worked with Jennifer on the final three of the four Hunger Games movies, and he was finishing up the final part, Mockingjay – Part 2, when he started reading James Matthew’s 2013 novel Red Sparrow ahead of a screen adaptation.

While he was reading it, he knew Jennifer would be right for the part of Russian spy Dominika, and pitched it to her right away.

“When I read the book, I thought of Jen,” he told WENN/Cover Media at the film’s London premiere. “I was finishing Mockingjay 2 when I read the book and I thought about her instantly and called her up when I finished and pitched it to her.

“She said, ‘Yeah, I mean, not looking at a script, it sounds like a fun idea to do’ so we thought of her, had her in mind as we worked on the screenplay.”

Francis, who also directed I Am Legend, worked with screenwriter Justin Haythe on the script and once the actress was officially onboard the project, she had some input.

“Especially dealing with some of the content of the movie, she and I worked really closely together to make sure that worked well within the story and the themes and the character,” Francis said, referencing the movie’s nudity and violent content.

In the film, Dominika, who is trained to seduce her target, is tasked with extracting information from CIA agent Nate Nash, played by Joel Edgerton.

It has received mixed reviews so far, but Francis hasn’t been paying attention to the critical response, mentioning that he rarely reads reviews anyway.

“Occasionally I do. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t,” he continued.

Red Sparrow, which also stars Jeremy Irons, Charlotte Rampling and Matthias Schoenarts, hits cinemas from 1 March (18).

Harvey Weinstein apologises for dragging actresses into class action suit battle

Harvey Weinstein has apologised to Jennifer Lawrence and Meryl Streep for using their names in a bid to get a sexual misconduct class action suit dismissed.

Both Oscar winners turned on the disgraced movie mogul this week (beg19Feb18) after he quoted positive remarks they had made about him as part of a motion to dismiss a federal lawsuit filed on behalf of Louisette Geiss, Katherine Kendall, Zoe Brock, Sarah Ann Masse, Melissa Sagemiller, and Nannette Klatt last year (17).

Streep called the actions of Weinstein’s legal team “pathetic and exploitive”, while The Hunger Games star raged, “Harvey Weinstein and his company are continuing to do what they have always done, which is to take things out of context and use them for their own benefit. This is what predators do, and it must stop.”

The movie boss has now responded to the backlash in a statement released to the media by a representative.

“Mr. Weinstein acknowledges the valuable input both Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lawrence have contributed to this conversation and apologizes,” it reads. “Moving forward, Mr. Weinstein has advised his counsel to not include specific names of former associates; and to avoid whenever possible, even if they are in the public record.

“Mr. Weinstein has been informed that his civil counsel responded in court to a class action lawsuit which improperly sought to include all actresses who had previously worked with Mr. Weinstein, even where those actresses have made no claim of wrongdoing.

“Even though Mr. Weinstein has worked with hundreds of actresses and actors who had only professional and mutually respectful experiences with him, Mr. Weinstein has directed in the future that no specific names be used by his counsel, even where those actors have made previous public statements about him.”

The producer has become an exile from Hollywood ever since details of his alleged sexual misconduct was exposed in The New York Times and New Yorker articles in October (17).

The class action suit Weinstein is fighting alleges he assaulted, abused and harassed women while board members at his production companies Miramax and The Weinstein Company covered up for him.

Weinstein is currently under investigation by police officials in Los Angeles, New York, and London.

Joel Edgerton learned to find the humanity in spies after having a chat with a former CIA operative in preparation for his new movie Red Sparrow.

The Australian actor was fascinated by spies when growing up and considered them to be superhuman, but he realised they were just normal people after having a chat with ex-CIA officer Jason Matthews, who wrote the 2013 Red Sparrow novel, in preparation for his role of Nate Nash, a CIA agent who is the target for Jennifer Lawrence’s Russian spy character Dominika.

When asked how he prepared for the role, Joel told Cover Media at the film’s London premiere, “I like to think the first port of information is the script and if I can’t find the information I need, I go beyond that. The beauty of this is the script is based on a novel by Jason Matthews and he was an ex-CIA operative so I had conversations with him.

“The greatest thing I learned from him was just to really get in touch with the humanity of any of these operatives… Yeah, there’s a certain sense of elevated experience about what they do for a living and how they live their lives, but at the end of the day they’ve still got to put their socks on in the morning and go to sleep at night and wake up and cook breakfast.”

The Black Mass actor admitted he was sold on the genre of the movie because he was so interested in the spy world as a kid, even having his own spy kit that included binoculars and a recording device when he was 10 years old.

Director Francis Lawrence, no relation to Jennifer, also explained that the script was quite different to the novel as they decided to focus on Dominika and her swaying allegiances, rather than on both her and Nate. He also teased that fans of the novel will be in for a surprise as the ending is different.

Red Sparrow hit cinemas from 1 March (18).

Fans have gone wild for the chic look Jennifer Lawrence wore to the Red Sparrow premiere in London on Monday night (19Feb18).

The actress walked the red carpet in Leicester Square before attending the European debut of the spy film, and turned heads in a sequinned Christian Dior dress with pleated skirt featuring multiple metallic shades.

Jennifer accessorised the ensemble with Sara Weinstock earrings and had her blonde tresses styled by Jenny Cho into voluminous ringlets.

The star’s long-time stylists, Jill Lincoln and Jordan Johnson, posted several images of the outfit to their Instagram page, with many praising the fashion-forward look.

“So pretty it hurts my eyes,” one user commented, while another added, “This look is perfect! Stunning.”

One fan also compared Jennifer’s golden hair to the curls Sarah Jessica Parker wore while playing Carrie Bradshaw on TV show Sex and the City, and another felt that the Dior dress is the most eye-catching look the 27-year-old has worn since she stepped out in a red Calvin Klein ensemble with plunging neckline at the Academy Awards in 2011.

“BEST since that red Calvin moment! BRAVA,” they added.

Though Jennifer stole the spotlight at the Red Sparrow event, her co-stars also got dressed up for the night too.

Joely Richardson looked elegant in a black dress with red print which featured an off-the-shoulder neckline, and Nicole O’Neill braved the chilly weather and sported a tangerine minidress which she matched with statement earrings.

Joel Edgerton looked handsome in a pinstripe suit with grey tie and red pocket square, while Jeremy Irons donned jeans, a grey coat, and a red scarf.

Red Sparrow, which also stars Mary-Louise Parker, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Sergei Polunin, hits cinemas from 1 March.
