Guess is set to close 100 stores around the world over the next 18 months.

The fashion brand, which has recently launched collections fronted by stars like Jennifer Lopez and J Balvin, was forced to temporarily shutter boutiques amid the coronavirus crisis earlier this year. But during a conference call announcing Guess’ first quarter results on Wednesday, chief executive officer Carlos Alberini admitted the Covid-19 pandemic was having a major impact on the business and some shops in North America and China wouldn’t be reopening.

“Our plan is to close about 100 stores globally over the next 18 months and they’re primarily in North America and in China. Just to give you an idea, between February and May, we have closed 42 stores in China,” he said. “So, there is a significant opportunity for us to really optimize our portfolio there and we have a few more to go between now and the next few months. And in the case of North America, we have a lot of lease expirations too that gives us a lot of flexibility.”

At present, Guess has all of its stores open in Asia, as well as around 400 boutiques in Europe and over 180 stores in the U.S. and Canada.

And while the fashion industry is facing a difficult few months, Alberini is confident Guess will pull through the crisis.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our teams around the world as they acted decisively, quickly and strongly to control what could be controlled and demonstrated a level of commitment, leadership and empathy that is unparalleled. Our top priority has been the safety and wellbeing of our associates, customers and the communities we serve,” the executive added. “I fully expect to be on the other side of this crisis with a more efficient business model.”

Director Lorene Scafaria reportedly fired a number of male extras on the set of her film Hustlers for “ogling” the strippers.

Oscar-winning actress Mercedes Ruehl played Mama in the 2019 crime drama, which starred Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu and followed a group of women working at a strip club who drugged and robbed their customers to make money.

Numerous scenes in the drama featured the stars, including Lili Reinhart, and female performers wearing racy ensembles, and Ruehl has revealed that several of the extras were punished for eyeing them up.

“I was very impressed by the young writer/director (Scafaria). She knew her stuff. It was interesting to me to see a young woman. Very attractive, very open, friendly,” the Big star told News on Media. “Obviously it was a lot of strippers and a lot of T and A (t*ts and a*s) and everything, and boy, did she rule with an iron hand.”

“There was nobody on that set who was anything but entirely respectful of all the women,” the 72-year-old explained, noting that some of the men refused to look at the dancers. “They didn’t even want to get caught ogling because there were a number of extras who were fired, whether it was remarks that they made or just ogling the girls.”

The Fisher King actress said she was relieved to be working in such a safe environment for women, especially after the allegations surrounding the inappropriate behaviour of disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein and other high-profile men in Hollywood.

“It was my first post-Harvey experience, and it was really interesting because this young woman kept a tight grasp on respect for the actresses,” Ruehl shared.

Matthew McConaughey has opened up about working with “quad threat” Jennifer Lopez on The Wedding Planner.

The Oscar-winning actor shared details about filming the 2001 romantic comedy in his weekly series, McConaughey Takes, and was full of praise for his former onscreen beau.

“I’ve always called her a quad threat. What does she not do? That girl works her backside off on everything. She does not just show up and wing it at all. She’s like clockwork. Just hammers it and knocks it out,” the 50-year-old shared.

He also revealed that he was cast as Dr. Steve Edison in the movie at the last minute, as there was an impending writers’ strike in Hollywood at the time.

“Jennifer was already cast, they were looking for the male lead,” McConaughey explained. “I think we were coming up against a writers’ strike. So, what that means is the issue was trying to get as many movies made as quickly as possible… so the industry needed content. I remember that because I got paid extremely well… they needed me to say yes quickly to do the film.”

After seeing the latest episode of McConaughey Takes, Lopez shared the video on Twitter, and told her former co-star: “Let’s do it again soon!”

She had earlier posted a heartfelt scene between her and McConaughey on Instagram. In the clip, her character Mary Fiore is reminiscing over her previous engagement and how it ended, and emotionally says, “Most of the time I think I just wasn’t enough.”

Lopez captioned the video, “You are enough,” which prompted McConaughey to reply in the comments: “You are more than enough.”

Jennifer Lopez has recalled how Barbra Streisand once complimented her engagement ring from Ben Affleck.

Back in 2002, the Good Will Hunting actor popped the question to the singer/actress with a huge 6.1-carat pink diamond ring that was rumoured to be worth $2.5 million (£2 million).

The couple, dubbed Bennifer, announced they had cancelled their wedding just one day before the planned nuptials in September 2003, and split for good just a few months later.

During a recent interview with Apple Music host Zane Lowe, Lopez revealed that iconic musician and actress Streisand had asked about the sparkler at an Oscars party.

“I met her at an Oscar party, years ago, and I was at the time engaged to Ben Affleck, and – she’s really into diamonds, which I didn’t know,” the Hustlers actress explained. “He had given me a pink diamond, which got a lot of press and was… whatever.”

“So, she came up to me, and like, she’s heard of it,” Lopez added. “And she’s like, ‘Can I see your ring?’ And she asked me about the ring, but then she asked me – and I thought it was so strange – about being famous, and how I handle it.”

Despite previously calling the split with Affleck “heartbreaking”, she still loved the show-stopping ring.

“I loved getting it, don’t get me wrong,” Lopez teased.

Back in 2012, Affleck told The Hollywood Reporter that he and his ex “occasionally touch base”, and the Love Don’t Cost a Thing hitmaker congratulated him on his Golden Globe win for Argo in 2013.

“I respect her,” Affleck gushed. “I like her.”

Jennifer Lopez has promised to save her 2017 Grammy Awards gown for her soon-to-be step-daughter.

The singer/actress took to Instagram on Tuesday to mark the 12th birthday of Ella Rodriguez, the youngest daughter of her fiance Alex Rodriguez, and posted a sweet picture of herself embracing the young girl.

In the accompanying caption, Lopez wrote: “To my loving little Ella … the first day I met you (you were so little then…), you ran up to me, sat right on my lap, put your arms around me and asked to have my lavender dress I had just worn to the Grammys for when you grew up.”

The dress in question is a soft lilac Ralph & Russo number featuring a plunging neckline, thigh-high slit, and ruffled neck detail.

And further on in her post, the superstar revealed that she is actually saving the designer gown for Ella to have when she’s older.

“You won my heart in a split second … you’re not so little anymore but you’re still sitting on my lap and I love it!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY sweet girl! …PS: I have the dress saved for you!!” the 50-year-old exclaimed.

In the comments section, Rodriguez posted a string of heart emojis.

Lopez and the sports star, also known as A-Rod, have been dating since 2017 and got engaged in March 2019. They have not yet announced a wedding date.

Jennifer Lopez still can’t quite believe she is in the best shape of her life at age 50.

The actress/singer has opened up about her experiences with ageing in a new interview with U.S. Elle magazine, and during the chat, confessed that she wished she had been more optimistic about getting older when she was in her twenties.

“I’ll tell you what I wish I’d known about being 50 when I was younger: It’s not over,” the Hustlers star shared. “When I was in my twenties, I don’t know what I thought about being 50 except that it was basically just the end. I didn’t think I’d be in the best shape of my life.”

Jennifer added that she’s not only feeling incredible, but her career has had a resurgence in recent years, too, including an iconic performance with Shakira headlining the Super Bowl Halftime Show in February.

“I didn’t think I’d be able to say that in a way, my career is taking off, even though I’ve been going for a long time, you know? I have so much experience now. I have the knowledge that, if I use it, is a huge advantage,” she explained.

Elsewhere in the chat, Jennifer also shared her frustration over the negativity surrounding women ageing, and said she feels like she can do anything now she’s older.

“The narrative women are told is that you’re kind of put out to pasture at a certain age. And what I’ve found is that it’s the total opposite/ If you keep working hard and pushing yourself, you can be better as a person physically, mentally, emotionally,” the Jenny from the Block hitmaker fired, before urging women to stop focusing on how they look. “Stop asking, ‘Will I look like that?’ and just ask, ‘What do I want to do next?’ Because you can make it happen, you know? And nobody ever told me that.”

Reed Morano is reportedly in talks to direct Jennifer Lopez’s drug lord drama The Godmother.

The filmmaker, who won an Emmy for helming the hit U.S. drama The Handmaid’s Tale, is circling the project, which documents the real-life story of notorious Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco, known as The Godmother, according to Deadline.

Lopez is playing the titular character, who rose from an impoverished childhood to become a key figurehead in Miami’s Cocaine Cowboy Wars, and was worth more than $2 billion (£1.6 billion) before she was murdered in Colombia in 2012.

The outlet also reports that William Monahan, who won an Oscar for writing The Departed, is in talks to rewrite the first draft of the script, which was originally penned by Terry Winter and Regina Corrado.

Lopez is also serving as a producer on the crime drama, alongside her former manager Benny Medina, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, and Julie Yorn. Magic Mike star Alex Pettyfer is executive producing, with Alex Brown, Rick Yorn, and Winter.

News that the Hustlers star would be playing Blanco on the big screen broke last year, and the 50-year-old said that she “jumped at the chance” to play the infamous drug lord.

“I’ve been forever fascinated by the story of Griselda Blanco and jumped at the chance to play her on screen,” she told Variety in July last year. “She is all things we look for in storytelling and dynamic characters – notorious, ambitious, conniving, chilling. In a genre dominated by legendary kingpins, I’m eager to shine a spotlight on this anti-hero.”

Morano, a cinematographer, made her feature directorial debut with Meadowland in 2015 and followed it up with I Think We’re Alone Now in 2018 and The Rhythm Section, starring Blake Lively, last year. She has also directed episodes of Halt and Catch Fire, Billions, and upcoming series The Power.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs reunited virtually with his ex-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez on Sunday as they danced together online to raise funds for coronavirus relief.

The rap mogul hosted an all-day dance party on Instagram Live on the Easter holiday to boost donations to non-profit Direct Action, which is providing aid to U.S. medical workers in underprivileged communities during the global pandemic.

He had raised $3.5 million (£2.4 million) within the first hour of the benefit bash, during which he welcomed guests DJ D-Nice, COVID-19 survivor Rita Wilson, Brazilian superstar Anitta.

He continued to step things up by chatting to models Naomi Campbell and Winnie Harlow, comedienne Tiffany Haddish, and rapper Megan Thee Stallion, while he also reconnected with Lopez and her fiance, retired baseball ace Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez.

“Hi Papi!” greeted Lopez, after Diddy asked how they were doing. “We’re great, we’re blessed and we’re happy to be here today to support you…”

During their online reunion, Diddy dedicated Elvis Crespo’s Suavemente to his ex, with whom he has remained close friends, as J.Lo exclaimed, “You know I like that!”, and began dancing along with the Bad Boy Records founder.

As Diddy showed off his fancy footwork, Lopez quipped, “I probably taught you that!”

The conversation took on a serious tone for a moment as Lopez expressed her thanks to healthcare workers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 outbreak, gushing, “For me, it’s just about their dedication…, inspiring everybody to just think bigger and to put yourself on the line for somebody else is the ultimate sacrifice.

“It’s just so inspiring to me and it’s a beautiful thing… It’s such a great and beautiful thing.”

Meanwhile, as Rodriguez joined in the chat, Lopez revealed the former New York Yankees athlete is Diddy’s “biggest fan”, as the hitmaker played the remix of his track Been Around the World for A-Rod.

Diddy and Lopez dated for two years from 1999 until 2001. She and A-Rod became engaged last year (19).

Jennifer Lopez urged pal Reese Witherspoon to get cracking on another Legally Blonde sequel during an impromptu Instagram Live chat on Monday.

The Big Little Lies actress called on the superstar to touch base during the coronavirus lockdown and chat about her new Quibi show Thanks a Million, and was stunned to learn the Jenny from the Block hitmaker and her family had been watching her 2001 movie Legally Blonde.

“Oh, my God, we watched Legally Blonde the other day,” Lopez said. “Literally, like, four days ago. Oh, my God, I forgot… I can’t believe I didn’t tell you. They loved it. Loved it. It was so much fun. You were so amazing in that. It’s so great… And then my daughter’s like, ‘I want to know what happens to her’. And I said, ‘There’s a 2 and a 3, I believe’.”

Witherspoon quickly corrected her, adding, “Well, no, there’s a 2 but I’m thinking we might be working on a 3.”

And Lopez responded by encouraging her to make it happen.

“You should. You should. That character was so amazing and so empowering and inspiring,” she gushed. “Yeah, it’s great for girls.”

Witherspoon, who recently revealed the next Legally Blonde sequel is “in development”, then turned the tables on her pal, urging J.Lo to return to Las Vegas for another residency.

“One of my biggest regrets is that I didn’t see you in Vegas,” Witherspoon said.

“You never know, I might wind up back in Vegas doing another residency,” Lopez responded. “Right now, I think I’m going to be touring the next couple of years once this all kind of gets back in order and people start going to concerts again, but I’m going to send for you. I’m going to send you tickets and you’re going to have to come.”
