John Cena had no fear while performing his own stunts for Fast & Furious 9.

The 42-year-old was cast in the latest instalment of the action franchise last year, but has refused to divulge any information on the character he will be playing alongside original stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Nathalie Emmanuel, Ludacris, and Charlize Theron.

However, he told Collider that his mysterious character will be involved in plenty of explosive set pieces, and revealed that he was more than happy to do his own stunts on the movie.

“On film, I will cheat death but it’s so safe,” Cena explained. “I had no fear in any of the processes. It’s awesome and I think by making the actors feel that sense of like, ‘Hey man, we’ve set this up so you are going to be all right. Just go for it.’ You get the best performance from your actors rather than somebody going, ‘I don’t know about this’… It was unbelievably safe but also unbelievably creative.”

While the original cast has worked together since The Fast and the Furious back in 2001, newcomer Cena received a warm welcome from his co-stars.

“It is a family environment and it is one that the world views as their family as well. They’re into the storyline, they’re into the characters, and they’re into this 20-year, eight- instalment narrative that, in a lot of cases, (is defining),” he shared.

“On top of that, they’ve managed to build an almost superhero environment with real people… It’s already a globally-appreciated franchise and I think Fast 9 will be a wonderful adrenaline shot for the franchise.”

James Gunn has reflected on the emotionally challenging time he had while filming The Suicide Squad.

The Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker began production on the highly-anticipated follow-up to the 2016 movie last year, with original stars Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney and Viola Davis returning to the DC Comics saga, alongside newcomers John Cena, Idris Elba, and Taika Waititi.

Gunn celebrated the end of filming The Suicide Squad with a touching post on Instagram on Saturday in which he revealed that he had a hard time helming the project while grieving the loss of his father and his pet dog.

“And that’s a wrap on #TheSuicideSquad,” he wrote alongside a snap of the entire cast and crew. “My father died two weeks before we started filming and my dog died two weeks before the end. It was a hard, hard time in my life and yet the most fulfilling time I’ve ever had making a movie.”

The 53-year-old writer and director also honoured the star-studded cast, which also includes Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, and Michael Rooker in mysterious roles.

“The professionalism, talent, compassion and kindness of this cast and crew inspired me every day. Thanks to everyone involved in this film, in every stage of development, in every department – I am grateful from the bottom of my heart for you all. You are why I make movies,” Gunn concluded his emotional post.

The Suicide Squad will hit cinemas in August 2021.

John Cena found working with Jackie Chan on their upcoming movie Project X-Traction to be one of the greatest experiences of his life.

The Chinese-American action film, directed by Scott Waugh, follows private security contractor Luo Feng, played by Chan, as he joins forces with Cena’s character, former U.S. Marine Chris Van Horne, to foil a plot by a group of terrorists in Iraq.

The WWE wrestler discussed his time working with the 65-year-old movie legend with Collider, and called it “one of the best experiences” of his life.

“It was enlightening… it’s f**king awesome. Jackie is once-in-a-generation,” Cena shared, saying he could spend all day singing the praises of the Rush Hour star. “He’s certainly our generation’s great physical storyteller. It’s awesome and at his age; he defies age. He defies time. He is always creative. No job is too small. He will sweep the floor. He treats his crew like family.

“I could waste every minute you have saying the praises of Jackie Chan and I believe he’s underappreciated in America.”

The 42-year-old confessed working with Chan on a stunt for Project X-Traction was a learning curve, but he was so enamoured with the Shanghai Noon star that he’d immediately team up with him again if he got the chance.

“He has taught me and helped me more ways than he will ever know in one experience. If I ever get a chance to do it again… if it’s like, ‘Hey, Jackie wants to do this,’ I’m sold. It’s that effective,” he touchingly stated. “He’s just awesome to be around.”

John Cena was “blown away” after reading James Gunn’s script for The Suicide Squad.

News that the wrestler-turned-actor had landed a role in the upcoming DC Comics adaptation was announced last year, however details of Cena’s character have been kept under wraps.

The 42-year-old confessed he was a “casual fan” of superhero movies in a new interview with Collider and said that when he arrived on the set of the sequel to the 2016 blockbuster Suicide Squad, he was impressed with Gunn’s creation.

“Having seen the first movie and then reading the new script, I was blown away. The first 10 pages (are) like a movie in itself. It’s really, really special,” Cena teased.

He also compared his performance as a “storyteller” in the WWE wrestling ring to Gunn’s work as a director and screenwriter.

“I’m also a storyteller at heart. I got to go out there on a nightly basis in WWE and entertain and make them want to believe that they want to see a WWE title switch or that so-and-so hates so-and-so or whatever story we’re trying to put together for that night,” he explained. “So I tip my cap to a great storyteller.”

The Trainwreck star, who is rumoured to be playing the Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad, also revealed that he was taken aback during his first meeting with the 53-year-old filmmaker when he realised that Gunn had the whole storyboard for the movie covering the walls in his office.

“You want go to work with people who jump out of bed every day and want to go to work. (Gunn) is the epitome of that. He cares so much about what he’s doing… and I hope everybody enjoys seeing it as much as we’re enjoying making it, because it’s awesome,” he shared.

“As you know, we have often found great talent in the music industry to cross over into film,” he wrote in the caption. “They are expected to leave all the accolades at the door to embrace the character with integrity… and that is exactly what Ozuna has done. Very proud of your work and role in Fast 9! Pa Mi Gente (For my people)! All Love, Always…#Fast92020 #YoungSantos #Ozuna #Fatherhood.”

The hashtags also revealed that Ozuna will either play the younger version or the son of Don Omar’s character Santos, who had a big role in Fast Five and a small appearance in 2017’s The Fate of the Furious. He is a supporting character who aligns himself with Dominic’s crew.

The Puerto Rican star, who recently won two 2019 Latin American Music Awards, is also in talks to be part of the film’s soundtrack.

Director David Ayer is frustrated by criticism of Suicide Squad because the film was not his “original vision”.

On Friday, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn announced the cast of The Suicide Squad, his follow-up to Ayer’s 2016 comic book movie. In response, IndieWire’s David Ehrlich tweeted that it was hard to be excited about a sequel to “some dumb piece of s**t that literally every sane person on Earth hated with a passion when it came out like 10 minutes ago.”

The filmmaker noticed the “mean-spirited” comment and replied, “A lot of people dedicated their blood sweat and tears and came together to make the original. It’s incredibly painful to have two years of my love attacked in such a way.”

After the journalist explained that he was simply frustrated about franchises continuing regardless of previous results, Ayer added, “The film industry is exactly that – an industry – it keeps growing and moving forward. Yet I know @JamesGunn will make something amazing. My frustration comes from being hammered for something that was not my original vision.”

The 51-year-old continued to tell his followers he “cannot wait to see this movie” and that Warner Bros. executives were “blessed to have @James Gunn.” Gunn responded to the praise by tweeting the praying hands emoji.

The Suicide Squad, which is said to be a reboot of Ayer’s movie, will feature returning cast members including Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, and Joel Kinnaman, while newcomers include Idris Elba, Taika Waititi, John Cena, Peter Capaldi, and Pete Davidson. When Gunn unveiled the confirmed cast list on Friday, fans were quick to notice that Jared Leto was absent, leaving them to wonder who will be playing the Joker next.

The Suicide Squad is scheduled to hit cinemas in August 2021.

Charlize Theron has opted for a ’90s-inspired bowl cut for her appearance in Fast & Furious 9.

The Academy Award-winning actress made her debut in the eighth instalment of the action franchise, 2017’s The Fate of the Furious, in which she played Cipher, a criminal mastermind and cyberterrorist who coerces Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) into working against his team by holding Elena Neves (Elsa Pataky) and their son hostage.

For her part in the movie, Charlize sported platinum blonde locks which were styled into twisted braids, but on Monday, she took to Instagram to upload a snap of Cipher’s new hairdo – a short brunette crop with honey blonde highlights.

“She’s baaaaack #Fast9,” she captioned two snaps from the set of the film.

Charlize, 44, didn’t share any further details about her latest transformation, however, her longtime hairstylist Adir Abergel uploaded a post in which he explained that the bowl cut was influenced by “early images” of 1990s supermodels Linda Evangelista and Cindy Crawford by photographer Peter Lindbergh.

“I always feel so blessed collaborating with this insanely talented human @charlizeafrica. I was inspired by early images of Linda Evangelista shot by @therealpeterlindbergh. It took some rad people to make this one come to life,” the hair expert captioned a picture of Charlize, before adding a vintage photo of Linda and Cindy and writing: “I was inspired by Linda Evangelista and Peter Lindbergh early ’90s vibes for Charlize’s new hair look. This image of @lindaevangelista@cindycrawford has been in my brain for a long time.”

A number of Charlize’s celebrity followers were quick to praise her bold new look too, with Lily Collins writing in the comments section, “Love this!!” and January Jones adding, “This hair is next level good. But would only look good on you.”

Fast & Furious 9, also starring Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, John Cena, and Helen Mirren, is due to hit cinemas in May 2020.

Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren are buckling up for another high-octane ride in the next Fast & Furious sequel.

Franchise star Vin Diesel has confirmed the two actresses will reprise their respective characters, Cipher and Magdalene Shaw, from 2017’s The Fate of the Furious for the ninth movie in the film series, which is currently in production in London and features the addition of new castmember, John Cena, whose role is still under wraps.

Sharing the news in a video posted on Instagram, Diesel said, “Week 3, Fast 9. Here on set. We’ve got a lot of the original cast here, including Oscar winners like Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren. A few new surprises, including John Cena, who I believe is going to completely shine in this movie.”

Theron previously admitted she had “no idea” if she would be invited back for another round as cyber-terrorist Cipher, although she was “so humbled” to have a part in the hugely successful all-action blockbuster, which scored the highest-grossing opening weekend worldwide at the time with a whopping $541.9 million (£433 million) debut.

It has since been overtaken by Avengers epics Infinity War and Endgame, but the entire action saga has racked up more than $5.1 billion (£4.1 billion) at the worldwide box office.

Meanwhile, Mirren’s return will mark her third appearance in the franchise, after also playing the mother of Jason Statham and Luke Evans’ characters in this summer’s Fast & Furious spin-off, Hobbs and Shaw.

Jordana Brewster is also returning to the ninth Fast & Furious instalment, alongside Ludacris, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, and Nathalie Emmanuel.

Fast 9, directed by Justin Lin, is set to debut in theatres in May next year.

Dave Bautista has no plans to play a villain in one of the Fast and Furious franchise films.

The former WWE star, who portrayed Drax the Destroyer in Marvel Cinematic Universe movies such as Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Endgame, was tagged in a Twitter post on Saturday by a fan who suggested he appear in a spin-off feature alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and John Cena.

However, Bautista was quick to reject the idea and throw shade at the popular series.

“Thank you for your consideration,” he replied, before adding a vomiting emoji and the hashtag “I’d rather do good films”.

One follower then responded to the sportsman-turned-actor’s hashtag, reminding “Big Dave” that he had a role in the critically-panned 2018 movie Escape Plan 2, in which he appeared opposite Sylvester Stallone.

But hitting back, Bautista responded: “Genius! Big Dave didn’t state that he’s never done a bad film. But I did them for particular reasons that helped build an ‘acting’ career. And I got to work with Sly so in your face with that! You’re dismissed!”

Fast & Furious 9, featuring original castmembers like Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster, is currently shooting in London and is set to be released in May 2020.

While spin-off movie Hobbs & Shaw, which sees Johnson and Jason Statham reprise their roles as Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, respectively, is scheduled to open in cinemas in August.

Bautista, 50, can next be seen onscreen in the action comedy Stuber, alongside Kumail Nanjiani, and is also attached to star in upcoming flicks like The Killer’s Game and Army of the Dead.
