Noah Hawley is in talks to write and direct the next Star Trek film.

The Lucy in the Sky director is reportedly in final talks with executives at Paramount Pictures to create the fourth instalment in the current film franchise, which stars Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto as Captain Kirk and Spock, respectively, according to Deadline.

If the deal is done, Hawley will also produce through his 26 Keys production banner alongside J.J. Abrams, who directed the first two films in the franchise – 2009’s Star Trek and 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness – and his Bad Robot company.

Paramount executives have been developing a fourth instalment since the release of 2016’s Star Trek Beyond, which was directed by Justin Lin. S.J. Clarkson was attached to direct the movie, making her the first woman to direct a Star Trek film, but negotiations with Pine and Chris Hemsworth, who portrays his father, fell apart in summer 2018.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the contracts for the main cast – which also includes Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, and Simon Pegg – had run out and more expensive deals were on the table. The project was subsequently shelved.

Paramount bosses are also working on a separate spin-off with Quentin Tarantino, who told Empire magazine that his project would be R-rated.

“There’s a script that exists for it now. I need to weigh in on it, but I haven’t been able to do that yet,” he added.

Hawley is best known for creating and serving as showrunner on Marvel TV series Legion and crime anthology series Fargo. He made his feature directorial debut earlier this year with Lucy with the Sky, which starred Natalie Portman, Jon Hamm, and Dan Stevens. He is currently producing the fourth season of Fargo, which features Chris Rock.

Latin music star Ozuna has landed a role in Fast & Furious 9.

Vin Diesel, who produces and stars as Dominic Toretto in the franchise, announced the Latin trap and reggaeton singer, full name Juan Carlos Ozuna Rosado, had joined the long-running franchise by sharing a snap of himself with Ozuna and director Justin Lin on Instagram on Monday.

“As you know, we have often found great talent in the music industry to cross over into film,” he wrote in the caption. “They are expected to leave all the accolades at the door to embrace the character with integrity… and that is exactly what Ozuna has done. Very proud of your work and role in Fast 9! Pa Mi Gente (For my people)! All Love, Always…#Fast92020 #YoungSantos #Ozuna #Fatherhood.”

The hashtags also revealed that Ozuna will either play the younger version or the son of Don Omar’s character Santos, who had a big role in Fast Five and a small appearance in 2017’s The Fate of the Furious. He is a supporting character who aligns himself with Dominic’s crew.

The Puerto Rican star, who recently won two 2019 Latin American Music Awards, is also in talks to be part of the film’s soundtrack.

The casting marks his third appearance in a film following 2018 romantic comedy Que Leon and its upcoming sequel Los Leones, which is set for release in November, the same month his third album Nibiru drops.

Fast & Furious regulars Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster, and Nathalie Emmanuel are returning for the ninth instalment, Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron are reprising their roles, while John Cena and Michael Rooker are new additions.

Dan Casey wrote the screenplay from a story by Lin and Alfredo Botello. The film is set to hit cinemas in May 2020.

Vin Diesel took a moment to thank fans for their unwavering support on Tuesday after he finished the first day of filming on Fast & Furious 9.

The 51-year-old, alongside co-stars Ludacris and Michelle Rodriguez, are among the cast members who have arrived in London as work finally gets underway on the delayed project.

Diesel and Rodriguez, who are reprising their roles as Dominic Toretto and Letty Ortiz, respectively, looked happy as they shared how grateful they were to be on the set of the ninth instalment of the popular action franchise.

“Can you believe it? We just completed our first day. It feels like a miracle, one hard-earned, but we’re just so grateful,” Diesel began the video on Instagram. “We’re grateful to you, Universal, we’re grateful for our whole team, incredible crew, and incredible cast. Most importantly, we’re so grateful to you, world, that has adapted this franchise.

“It’s so awesome, we’re so blessed,” he concluded.

Ludacris, who plays Tej Parker, also shared snaps from his time in the British capital, and headed to celebrity barber SliderCuts, to get himself looking the part before production began.

The 41-year-old then shared a photo of the Fast & Furious 9 script, which was written by Daniel Casey.

According to editors at Collider, an unknown female writer has also been recruited after Rodriguez refused to return unless a woman worked on the script.

Justin Lin, who helmed Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, and Fast & Furious 6, returns as director for Fast & Furious 9.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will not be returning the franchise, after reported bad blood between him and Diesel. One of the reasons for the delay in filming Fast & Furious 9 was due to production beginning on the spin-off movie Hobbs & Shaw, which features Johnson and Jason Statham.

Fast & Furious 9 is due to be released in May 2020.
