Danielle Brooks has partnered with plus-size brand Fashion To Figure on a holiday collection. 

The Orange Is the New Black actress is no stranger to the world of fashion, having previously created a line for Universal Standard and appeared in campaigns for Christian Siriano and Lane Bryant.

Now, Danielle has been tapped to front the marketing imagery for Fashion To Figure, the label owned by U.S. clothing retailer New York & Company, and stars in the photos alongside other curvy women.

“I am so proud to be associated with a brand that embraces diversity, celebrates inclusivity, offers great fashion at amazing value and supports causes that are important to us,” she said in a statement.

In the imagery, Danielle poses up a storm in items including a bronze sequin minidress, a teal velvet dress with gold buttons attached to the front, a rainbow stripe sequin shirt, and a black and white faux fur jacket.

The Danielle Brooks x FTF Holiday Collection also includes a mix of evening gowns, casual separates, and party dresses.

“The holidays are an important time for all of us to celebrate togetherness and the different families we develop over time. I love the spirit and confidence of Fashion To Figure’s holiday concept as it really reflects the idea that we are all a part of something magical this time of year,” the 29-year-old added.

Items are priced from $32.95 to $69.95 (£25 – £55). In addition to the campaign, bosses at Fashion To Figure have announced that they will be partnering with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as part of their Season of Giving initiative.

Danielle’s line comes shortly after Gabrielle Union unveiled her #AllTogetherNow campaign for New York & Company, in which she and her real-life pals including Raven Goodwin, Ajiona Alexus, Essence Atkins and Valarie Pettiford sport Christmas-inspired outfits such as playful red dresses, silver sequin numbers and white jumpsuits.

Ashley Graham is adamant new models breaking into the industry need to be more than just “a pretty face”.

The curvy model is one of the hottest names in the business and has recently landed gigs for the likes of Lane Bryant, Revlon and Rag & Bone.

Ashley has also created a swimwear line in partnership with Swimsuits For All and denim capsule collection for Marina Rinaldi, and has now shared how important it is for rising stars to diversify in order to have longevity in fashion.

“You can’t just be a pretty face,” she told The New York Times. “You can’t just be a hot body. It’s really about being a businesswoman. It’s about having a voice. It’s about what are you doing to change your world and leave a legacy and a mark for the next generation.”

Ashley went on to explain that she still works on her runway walk and often worries that she’s going to fall on her face when strutting her stuff.

However, she finds it disappointing that it’s always the same fashion designers that cast plus-size models for Fashion Week presentations.

“We’re left with probably Michael Kors, Christian Siriano, Tome, Chromat. Oh, Alexander McQueen had two curvy girls. And that’s it,” the 30-year-old sighed. “If you really think about it, there really aren’t a lot of designers that are putting curvy women in their shows. But if you think about it glass half full, there’s never been designers that put curvy girls in their show.”

As very few curvy models get hired for shows, Ashley often feels there’s more pressure on her as she needs to represent a “whole community”. And she thinks it is the models who are sized between a U.S. four and a U.S. 12 (size U.K. eight – U.K. 16) that struggle to get gigs the most.

“When you’re a straight-size model, you have to be between a size 0 and a size 4. When you’re curvy, you have to be between a size 12 and a 16 in order to get the great work. So it’s those girls that are in between…where are the jobs for them?” she questioned.

Australian model Robyn Lawley refuses to undergo laser surgery to erase the “Harry Potter scar” she received after falling down a staircase.

The curvy beauty, who has fronted campaigns for plus-size brands such as Lane Bryant and Marina Rinaldi, as well as appearing in photoshoots for Ralph Lauren and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, was hospitalised earlier this year (18) after suffering a seizure related to her battle with autoimmune disease lupus.

Robyn lost consciousness during the health scare, causing her to tumble down the stairs at her home, and she woke up hours later in a hospital bed, with multiple facial scars.

She only went public with the news of the accident in mid-August (18), two months after the terrifying fall, and although she was grateful her injuries weren’t more serious, she has now confessed she was having mixed feelings about the permanent marks on her face.

Robyn has since learned laser surgery would fix the “lightning bolt” forehead scar, but it’s so similar to the one fictional boy wizard Harry Potter has, she is now more than happy to keep it.

She also admits the magical likeness is quite the coincidence, considering the nickname her loved ones had previously given her.

“I can’t get rid of it ’cause it’s a lightning bolt…,” she told breakfast show Today. “I’m too much of a fan to get rid of it and it’s too much of a weird spot to have it happen. My nickname before the fall was actually ‘Wizard’ already, so I had to keep it!”

Discussing the thought of cosmetic surgery, she explained, “I have no desire, I feel like scars say a story and tell who we are. I’ve always embraced my stretch marks and marks on my stomach and hips and body, and I felt like, ‘Why should I have to get rid of them? Who’s it gonna appease?’ and I actually like it. How often do you get a Harry Potter scar?”

Robyn also revealed she found it ironic that the “fluke accident” happened on the same day she and her partner Everest Schmidt were due to enjoy a night off from parenting their three-year-old daughter Ripley.

“It was actually the day that me and my partner (sic) had planned a date, ironically,” she said. “That’s new parents for you!”

The model’s seizure was just the second she’s ever experienced since she was diagnosed with lupus three years ago, but it’s prompted her to overhaul her diet in a bid to combat the side-effects of the illness.

“I’m adopting a much more plant-based diet and any anti-inflammatory (foods) because I do believe that food can heal a lot more than people think,” she continued. “So as much food as I can eat, as much vegetables I can eat, I will be eating!”

Robyn Lawley has been left with facial scars after falling down a staircase as a result of suffering a seizure.

The curvy Australian model is known for fronting campaigns for plus-size brands such as Lane Bryant and Marina Rinaldi as well as appearing in photoshoots for Ralph Lauren and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

However, Robyn has now been forced to step out of the spotlight after injuring her face in a terrifying accident two months ago.

“I unfortunately had a seizure on my staircase, I fell from over 7ft and landed on my face. I suppose it’s ironic that I’m a model, however I’m grateful I didn’t break my neck,” the star wrote on her Instagram page on Monday (13Aug18). “I’ve managed to come full circle with that gratefulness, and luck. I could of had it holding my daughter for example, or I could be in a wheelchair, or not breathing at all (sic).”

Robyn, who shares three-year-old daughter Ripley with her partner Everest Schmidt, uploaded a photo showing the cuts and scratches on her face a short time after the accident and another more recent snap displaying how her face has mostly healed except for a large scar on her forehead.

In her post, she also explained that her fall was linked to her battles with autoimmune disease lupus and antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), which provokes blood clots in both arteries and veins.

“With fashion week coming soon I wanted to acknowledge my new lighting bolt scar on my forehead, lip and chin,” the 29-year-old wrote. “As the scars fade, a part of me wants nothing to do with them and a part of me wants to embrace them. They make us who we are. Plus wearing daily make-up to cover my face is something I do not do.”

To conclude her Instagram post, Robyn noted that she was thankful for the medical experts who cared for her in hospital and explained to fans that they were welcome to direct message her any questions they may have about lupus or APS.

“Life isn’t all rainbows. I’ve found strength the past few months following people who are brave to share their physical and emotional ongoing battles,” she added. “To anyone that’s going through something I’m sorry for the pain you have to endure.”

The curvy model is one of the hottest names in the business and has recently landed gigs for the likes of Lane Bryant, Marina Rinaldi, Revlon and Rag & Bone.

While Ashley nearly gave up pursuing modelling when she first moved to New York at the age of 17 because she became disheartened by the reaction to her figure, she has now shared that some words of wisdom bestowed on her by her mother Linda Graham changed her outlook.

“I gained 25 pounds; I was a US size 18. Agents were telling me that my career was over,” she recalled to Harper’s Bazaar magazine. “So, I called my mom and said, ‘I’m moving home. I’m not doing this anymore.’ She then said something to me that now seems prophetic: ‘You can’t. Your body is going to change someone’s life one day.'”

Ashley has become a force to be reckoned with when it comes to promoting messages of self-acceptance and female empowerment. But even with her status as a fashion star, she has noted that audience members are sometimes still shocked to see her on the catwalk alongside sample-size models.

“You know, I sometimes still hear gasps when I turn the corner on a runway,” the 30-year-old sighed. “But it’s creating a conversation. I may be the only curvy girl in a show, but I feel that I am representing the majority of women when I’m wearing that dress.”

During the interview, Ashley also discussed how she is determined to stay true to her “authentic” self and encourage other women to embrace their bodies.

“I want to be an example to allow women to be who they are. That’s why this connects on a deeper level with different ages, races and sizes. Ultimately, it’s about all womankind,” she smiled.

For her latest shoot, Ashley has landed the cover of Vogue Arabia and explained in an accompanying interview with the fashion publication that she believes spreading the message of “beauty beyond size” is her “destiny”.

“My mother told me that when I walked into a room, I would greet every single person – even at three years old,” she said. “It was more of an emotion that I would give people, and it would leave them feeling good about who they are. I think that’s what I’m doing today; letting women know that they are worthy, that they are beautiful, and that they can be happy with who they are in their skin.”

For the cover imagery, Ashley was photographed by Miguel Reveriego and is seen sporting a silver sequin Balmain dress, Oscar de la Renta jacket and Tasaki jewellery.

In one photo, Ashley poses alongside fellow plus-size model Paloma Elsesser, who dazzles in a silver dress from Paco Rabanne.

Born in Canada to an African-American mother and a father of Chilean-Swiss descent, Paloma also spoke about her journey to embracing her figure.

“The feelings that I have about my body today aren’t very different from the way I felt about it in the first grade,” the 26-year-old explained. “What has changed, is the way I navigate those feelings.”

Fashion designer Dima Ayad, influencer Nadine Abdel Aziz, weightlifter Amna Al Haddad and Marc Jacobs beauty ambassador Rhea Jacobs also feature in the issue.

Barbie Ferreira has described how she felt when she decided to reclaim the word “fat”.

The New York-born model first entered the fashion industry when she landed an American Apparel campaign and has since gone on to work for the likes of Aerie, Lane Bryant and Adidas Originals.

While curvy models are still breaking down barriers within the fashion industry, Barbie has now described how important it was for her to take ownership of one word with a lot of stigma attached.

“Fat was a terrible, terrible word for me growing up,” she told Oyster magazine. “When I was able to reclaim it and call myself fat, and identify with it, that was the best moment ever. That was the moment I really started to feel free. Like, all those times those kids made fun of me and called me fat – well, I don’t care. I’m making money off of being fat. What are you doing?”

Since launching her career, Barbie has built up a reputation for embracing her figure and refusing to have photoshoot imagery digitally altered. And she hopes that she can encourage others to shake off certain labels.

“I call myself and my friends fat all day, but that’s because we’re all using it lovingly, and understand the total s**t we’ve all had to go through. Of course, if you’re using it in a derogatory way, that’s terrible. But we are fat. Plain and simple. We’re fat in an industry of size zero girls,” the 21-year-old IMG model shared. “So, it’s fun to let go of that heaviness of this word that has had so much weight to it – no pun intended.”

In her interview, the brunette beauty also spoke about how she has grown personally and professionally in the past two years. Specifically, she’s no longer afraid to advocate for her beliefs.

“Before, I’d always felt like I’m just some stupid girl. But now I know I’m here for a reason,” she smiled.
