Drake has cheekily commemorated beating a chart record previously held by The Beatles with a new tattoo.

Last year, the God’s Plan rapper surpassed the British band’s record for the most songs simultaneously listed in America’s Billboard Hot 100’s Top 10, with seven tracks from his 2018 album Scorpion.

In October, Drake secured 12 tracks on the Hot 100’s Top 10 in a calendar year, surpassing The Beatles’ record of 11, and this June, he passed the Fab Four to claim the second-most Hot 100 Top 10s ever, following Madonna.

The Canadian star has already marked the record-breaking feat in his music, and it appears he has now also celebrated the achievement in a more permanent way.

New pictures posted of Drake on social media showed him with new body art on his left forearm, and the rapper’s official fan account @WordOnRd shared images with the caption, “Drake has a tattoo of himself in front of The Beatles on his arm.”

The black and white tattoo is inspired by the band’s famous 1969 Abbey Road album cover, which shows John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr walking in a line at a pedestrian crossing. In the tattoo, Drake has been added as a fifth figure, who is seen standing in front of The Beatles and waving at them.

The tattoo had a mixed response on social media, with some Drake fans finding the new ink funny, and others commenting, “I love Drake but that’s so tacky and cocky lmfao (laughing my f**king a*s off) it’s not that deep,” and “Drake tats are like a college students laptop with stickers all over (sic).”

Drake had previously celebrated beating The Beatles’ record in his rap on Meek Mill’s track Going Bad, which featured the lyrics: “I got more slaps than The Beatles.”

His other tattoos include homages to Aaliyah, Sade, Lil Wayne, and Denzel Washington.

Lil Wayne has been tapped to front the new UGG x BAPE collection.

Australian brand UGG, famous for its sheepskin-lined boots, has teamed with Tokyo-based streetwear brand BAPE on a line made up of five new footwear styles, including a pair of slippers, plus a shearling leather coat and a pair of mittens.

The collection was unveiled in December, with Lil Wayne’s imagery dropping on Wednesday (06Feb19).

“Been rocking UGG and BAPE since the beginning,” Lil Wayne said in a press release. “This collab is next level.”

The items are slated to hit shelves at the end of February. Prices range from $3,500 (£2,700) for the camo print coat, to $180 (£139) for the mittens, embossed with BAPE across the front.

“Partnering with an iconic streetwear brand like BAPE allowed us to show UGG Men’s in a fresh new way and environment. BAPE took its world-renowned print and applied it to several of our top-performing men’s silhouettes, creating a street style-ready capsule,” Andrea O’Donnell, president of fashion lifestyle at Deckers Brands, UGG’s parent company, said.

The collaboration is one of the ways BAPE is marking its 25th anniversary.

As well as the new partnership, UGG bosses have also been busy in Hollywood with the Virtuosos Awards, which it presented on Tuesday during the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Yalitza Aparicio (Roma), Sam Elliott (A Star is Born), Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade), Claire Foy (First Man), Richard E. Grant (Can You Ever Forgive Me?), Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie (Leave No Trace), John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman) and Steven Yeun (Burning) were all honoured at the annual prizegiving.

Adwoa Aboah and streetwear designer Heron Preston have both been tapped to star in Ugg’s 40th anniversary campaign.

The British model is proving extremely popular with many top fashion brands this year (18), fronting ads for Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Burberry and Fendi amongst others.

While Heron Preston has recently collaborated with rapper Lil Wayne in designing merchandise to support the release of his highly anticipated new album, Tha Carter V.

The fashion-forward duo posed for photographer and visual artist Erik Madigan Heck against a backdrop of bold reimaginings of California landscapes such as Big Sur and the Redwood Forest, with both wearing pieces from Ugg’s 40:40:40 collection – a limited-edition reissue of the label’s most famous styles.

And for Adwoa personally, the shoes represents youthful aspiration.

“It wasn’t necessarily my style, but all the girls in school wanted to look like the girls who wore them. You still approach things in kind of the same way you do in high school,” the 26-year-old explained to WWD. “Now they’re not considered ‘fashion world’ shoes, but now I have more confidence and don’t care what people think as much, so I just wear them with everything, like Rihanna wears them with all sorts of things, not just a tracksuit.”

Though the footwear company has previously been represented by the like of Kate Hudson, Ugg have made the conscious decision to move away from the typical Californian persona.

“We wanted to take the opportunity to look back to who we are as a California lifestyle brand that’s been embraced by bold and provocative people, so the images respect our heritage while featuring product on people we have connected with, but who may not seem like the people who’ve expressed the brand over the last 20 years,” said Andrea O’Donnell, Ugg brand president.

The campaign goes live on Thursday (04Oct18).

Rapper Lil Wayne will celebrate the release of his long-awaited Tha Carter V album with a limited clothing line.

The Lollipop hitmaker revealed he’ll wrap up his 36th birthday celebrations on Thursday (27Sep18) by releasing his new album – and he’s making sure fans can look the part as they listen to the record by teaming up with 14 designers for a new merchandise collection.

Each item will only be available for 24 hours over a nine-day span, beginning on Wednesday, from Tha Carter V’s official online shop.

An airbrushed white T-shirt, designed by Heron Preston, was the first item released at 5pm local time in New York.

It featured a graphic of a young Lil Wayne smoking a joint, while the back includes the line “What’s a goon to a goblin” from Wayne’s 2008 hit A Milli.

“I wanted to do an airbrush theme that was very unique to the South, where he’s from,” Heron told Highsnobiety. “I looked for amateur airbrush artists, and I found a bunch of them on (website) Etsy.

“I didn’t want something that was super polished or professional; I wanted to capture that amateur skill level, which is the same kind of skill level that I saw when looking at old airbrush artwork back in the ’90s.”

The rapper announced the release of his new album during a “special surprise” video he posted online on Tuesday afternoon (25Sep18).

“I heard there was a misunderstanding about the release date of Tha CV,” he said, referring to social media rumours suggesting the album was supposed to drop last week (21Sep18). “I would like for y’all to know that since y’all stuck with me for like the last four or five years, through all of this… On my birthday, I actually have something special. I will be releasing Tha Carter V on my birthday. Now, if you don’t know when my birthday is, Wikipedia does…”

The album has been shelved for almost six years amid Lil Wayne’s legal wrangle with his mentor and Young Money label co-founder Birdman. The rap star first announced the project in 2012 and hinted it would be his last album. He and Birdman ended their legal war over the album’s release and royalties in July (18).
