Elle Fanning wore a pink vintage John Galliano dress to her high school prom.

The Maleficent: Mistress of Evil star has been a formidable force on the red carpet since a young age, and in a new interview for InStyle magazine, noted that she was determined to make a style statement at the annual formal dances she attended as a teenager.

“The first prom was in ninth grade. I wore a white Ralph Lauren dress that we found at the mall. It was long and flowy with a V-neck tank,” she recalled to the publication. “For the second prom, I went to The Paper Bag Princess (in Los Angeles) and got a vintage bias-cut pink John Galliano dress.”

Despite her high-fashion look, Elle confessed that she’s not worn the gown since.

“I should wear it to a red carpet. You know, I’ve always just been interested in fashion. I love dressing up and playing characters,” the 21-year-old shared.

The star, who is the younger sister of Dakota Fanning, went on to explain that she learned how to express herself through fashion while she was promoting Maleficent back in 2014, when she was just 16.

“That was a very important moment because it involved a huge press tour. That’s when I learned how to express myself through clothes,” she commented.

Elsewhere in the interview, Elle opened up about her surprise appearance on the catwalk at Miu Miu’s 80s-inspired fall 2018 show during Paris Fashion Week last year.

The blonde beauty, who has served as a muse for the Italian fashion house alongside her sibling, hit the runway with bouffant hair and grungy make-up alongside models such as Georgia May Jagger, Adwoa Aboah and Kaia Gerber.

“That was crazy!” Elle exclaimed. “I was so nervous. It wasn’t a planned thing. I was attending anyway, and then Mrs. Prada had that idea. Her team said, ‘You’re starting the show, so you have to be very serious.’ I tried to keep a straight face.”

Elle Fanning channelled her character Princess Aurora by wearing a gown adorned with bejewelled drops of blood at the Maleficent: Mistress of Evil premiere on Monday night.

The actress reprises her role as the iconic Sleeping Beauty in Disney’s upcoming live-action sequel to 2014’s Maleficent, and at the debut screening of the film in Los Angeles, she made waves in her stunning Gucci dress.

Inspired by the fairy tale, which sees Aurora prick her finger on Maleficent’s cursed spinning wheel, the long flowing green number included sheer gloves and bright red droplets on her right hand, with the jewels continuing all the way down her skirt.

“In Sleeping Beauty, she pricks her finger, and there’s blood involved,” Elle told Entertainment Tonight, adding that the team at Gucci created the gown just for her. “They created this amazing design… and it’s just a work of art.”

She also confessed she was jealous of her co-star Angelina Jolie’s wardrobe in the film, as the actress had to don some pretty dramatic garments for the part of Maleficent.

“I would say Angelina’s outfits! That cape? Ohhh! I would say her outfits,” the 21-year-old gushed.

And the Oscar-winning star also rocked a Maleficent-inspired outfit for the premiere, opting for a one-shouldered black shimmering gown that featured a silver jewelled scorpion brooch at the waist.

Angelina brought along five of her six children to the event, with Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 11, matching their mother in dark outfits.

But she later admitted that it was relatively easy getting her brood ready for the premiere, as they’re more organised than she is.

“They wrangle me. Honestly, they’re more together (than I am),” she smiled to reporters.

Michelle Pfeiffer still feels insecure about her acting abilities because she didn’t receive any formal training.

The actress has more than 60 acting credits under her belt, including Scarface, The Age of Innocence, The Fabulous Baker Boys and Hairspray, as well as three Academy Award nominations and a Golden Globe win.

However, Pfeiffer still feels uncertain every time she takes on a new project and has a constant fear of being fired because she didn’t have any formal training at a top performing arts school like Juilliard.

“I think it comes from not having a background of formal training, you know, in the beginning,” Pfeiffer explained to Entertainment Tonight. “And I think when I started out, a lot of actors were coming out of Juilliard and I was just this young person from Orange County, kind of just getting by on my instincts purely and I think, for the longest time, I felt like it wasn’t really enough and maybe didn’t give me the credibility and maybe because I had to find my technique as I went along. That I didn’t sort of start from a real secure place.”

Despite her insecurities, the 61-year-old felt confident on the set of her new film, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, in which she got to play main antagonist Queen Ingrith. The character is the future mother-in-law of Elle Fanning’s Aurora, and plans to use her son’s marriage to drive a wedge between humans and fairies forever.

“I had a blast on this,” she added. “I’m pretty confident with the villains now. I know where to go for that.”

The sequel, also starring Angelina Jolie, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, and Imelda Staunton, hits theatres from 16 October.

Chiwetel Ejiofor has been cast as the villain opposite Mark Wahlberg in action-thriller Infinite.

Infinite, to be directed by Training Day’s Antoine Fuqua, centres on a group of near-immortal men and women who are reincarnated over the centuries and are known as “the Infinite.”

The British actor will play a member of the Infinite who has found a way to stop the reincarnation process and plans to use it on his own kind, according to editors at The Hollywood Reporter.

Wahlberg, who was drafted in to lead the project after Chris Evans dropped out, is set to portray Evan Michaels, a man with schizophrenia who realises his hallucinations are actually memories from past lives, and these will help him defeat the evil mastermind.

Ejiofor also joins The Maze Runner’s Dylan O’Brien and Kingsman: The Secret Service’s Sophie Cookson, who have been previously been cast in undisclosed roles, as well as Rupert Friend and Icelandic actor Johannes Haukur Johannesson.

Ian Shorr and John Lee Hancock are writing the script, which is based on D. Eric Maikranz’s 2009 novel The Reincarnationist Papers, while Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing with Mark Vahradian and Bellevue Productions’ John Zaozirny.

Production is set to get underway in London at the end of September ahead of a cinema release in August 2020.

The 12 Years a Slave actor made his directorial debut earlier this year with The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind and recently lent his voice to the villain Scar in the remake of Disney’s The Lion King. He will next appear in Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil opposite Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning, and recently wrapped filming alongside Charlize Theron in The Old Guard.
