Top models and designers have congratulated Matthew Williams on his new role at Givenchy.

On Monday, bosses at the Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH)-owned French luxury label announced that the 1017 Alyx 9SM designer would succeed Clare Waight Keller as creative director following her departure last month.

After the news was revealed, a number of top industry names were quick to take to social media to praise Williams.

On an Instagram post, Naomi Campbell wrote, “Congratulations” along with a heart and star emoji, while Adwoa Aboah commented, “Well done stunner,” and Coco Rocha stated, “So excited for this!”

Stylist Karla Welch posted, “Congratulations Matt!!!”, and designer Marc Jacobs added, “Congratulations to you Matthew.”

Elsewhere, fashion journalist Tim Blanks wrote, “Can’t wait to see what happens next,” and designer Gabriela Hearst noted, “So well deserved. Hyper Talented and Kind Human.”

Dior menswear designer Kim Jones, Bella Hadid, and hairstylist Jen Atkin also shared supportive messages.

Known for his ability to merge streetwear with sharp tailoring, Chicago-born, California-raised Williams founded his 1017 Alyx 9SM label in 2015 and has since expanded his offerings to include ready-to-wear, accessories, and shoe collections.

And in a statement, Sidney Toledano, chief executive officer and chairman of LVMH Fashion Group, shared his excitement over Williams’ appointment.

“I am very happy to see Matthew M. Williams join the LVMH Group. Since he took part in the LVMH Prize, we have had the pleasure of watching him develop into the great talent he is today,” he said. “I believe his singular vision of modernity will be a great opportunity for Givenchy to write its new chapter with strength and success.”

Matthew Williams has been tapped as the new head designer of Givenchy.

Back in April, designer Clare Waight Keller announced her departure from the French luxury label after a three-year stint.

Following Waight Keller’s exit from the brand last month, bosses at the Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH)-owned company confirmed on Monday that Williams had been appointed as her successor.

“I am extremely honoured to join the House of Givenchy. The Maison’s unique position and timeless aura make it an undeniable icon and I am looking forward to working together with its ateliers and teams, to move it into a new era based on modernity and inclusivity,” he said in a statement. “I am grateful to the LVMH group for trusting me with the opportunity to fulfil my lifelong dream. In these unprecedented times for the world, I want to send a message of hope, together with my community and colleagues, and intend to contribute towards positive change.”

Williams will be the seventh creative director of Givenchy. He follows in the footsteps of founder Hubert de Givenchy, as well as the likes of John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Julien MacDonald, and Riccardo Tisci.

Richard Quinn and Matthew Williams have been added to Moncler Genius’ roster of designers.

London-based star Quinn, who won the inaugural Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design last year (18), and Williams, known for his 1017 ALYX 9SM label, will both present collections for the Italy-based apparel company in Milan on 20 February.

Regarding the idea for tapping rising fashion talent for limited-edition collections, chairman and chief executive officer Remo Ruffini, explained that the business model acknowledges the diversity of the contemporary customer in the digital era.

“Moncler Genius is an answer to the times, a symposium of creative minds and an inspiring place. Each Genius operates singularly, and the sum of the Geniuses interprets the Moncler identity,” he said in a statement. “Different rooms house different visions, all of them shaping the global Moncler message and the Moncler Genius Building contains them all.”

Quinn and Williams will join other established Moncler Genius designers at the show, including Sergio Zambon and Veronica Leoni for Moncler 1952, Sandro Mandrino for Moncler Grenoble, Simone Rocha, Craig Green, Hiroshi Fujiwara, Palm Angels’ Francesco Ragazzi, and Poldo Dog Couture.

There will also be a line from Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli and model Liya Kebede.

Last year, Piccioli made a splash with his Moncler Genius collection, with the line including includes zip-up hooded capes, padded duvet-like coats, and basic down jackets, while the accompanying campaign featured models posing in settings evocative of Medieval Madonna paintings. Actor Ezra Miller also hit headlines when he stepped out at the premiere of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in Paris in November sporting a daring black coat with matching hood and gloves from the line.
