Lupita Nyong’o and her stylist like to come up with looks which reference the film she’s promoting when she hits the red carpet.

The Oscar-winning actress and her stylist Micaela Erlanger, who have been working together since her movie debut in 2013, consider the outfits she wears when promoting projects to be an extension of the visual storytelling within the movie.

Accordingly, they treat each event with thematic precision, and explored female warrior iconography when Lupita was promoting Black Panther and mined circus and carnival references while stepping out to support horror movie Us.

“It’s really important to have a narrative, because we’re telling a story visually, just like in an editorial,” Erlanger told British Vogue magazine. “She’s never in costume, but her look has to relate to the character she’s there to talk about.”

However, their narrative dressing is put to one side when it comes to award shows, as they like to go for all-out glamour.

“It’s an extraordinary honour to walk the red carpet at these events, so you have to have the confidence to command a presence there and represent the best possible version of yourself,” the style expert added. “Lupita is the star of her own life and she dresses for that role in those moments.”

Erlanger, who also works with actresses such as Olivia Munn, Meryl Streep, and Gal Gadot, also praised the 12 Years a Slave star for coming into their meetings having done her homework.

“She’s an expert in tailoring and silhouettes, and her knowledge of what suits her allows her to be more daring,” she gushed. “She pushes me, I push her and we bring each other back down to earth. This trust has allowed us to see how transformative style can truly be. She’s become the ultimate muse and people want to work with her.”

Hayley Atwell was thrilled with her look for the European premiere of new movie Christopher Robin.

The actress documented the time she spent with her glam squad on her Instagram page on Sunday (05Aug18) prior to stepping out at the BFI Southbank cinema in London to celebrate the Marc Forster-directed film, which tells of a family man, Christopher Robin, who encounters his childhood friend Winnie-the-Pooh and rediscovers the joys of life.

Hayley, who portrays Christopher’s wife Evelyn Robin in the flick, chose a purple and white sequin dress from designer Mary Katrantzou for the event.

“@marykatrantzou can dress a woman,” she captioned one snap of her posing on a balcony.

Hayley’s stylist Micaela Erlanger chose to complement her gorgeous gown with equally eye-catching accessories, including an Edie Parker purse, nude suede high heels from Alexandre Birman and jewellery from Messika Paris and Ara Vartanian.

Hair stylist Leigh Keates was in charge of her beauty look and opted to slick back her hair at the front and style the rest of her tresses in gentle waves. While make-up artist Alex Babsky played up the violet colours in the star’s dress and chose to give her a flawless base with a touch of grey eyeshadow on her lids and a slick of pink lipstick on her pout.

“Matte, dove grey eyes with dusky rose blush & lips,” he wrote alongside a close-up snap of the 36-year-old’s face posted on social media.

Hayley also uploaded photos of her posing alongside filmmaker Marc and actor Ewan McGregor, who portrays the titular character in the flick, and captioned the snap: “A dashing sandwich.”

Ewan opted for a relaxed look in black trousers and a grey blazer, while young actress Bronte Carmichael, who portrays Christopher’s daughter Madeline Robin, looked lovely in an orange silk dress. Stars Mark Gatiss, Jim Cummings and Sophie Okonedo were also in attendance.

Celebrity stylist Micaela Erlanger has given fans inside info on how to copy actress Lupita Nyong’o’s most glamorous looks.

The fashion professional has been dressing the Black Panther beauty and fellow A-listers like Olivia Munn and Kate Hudson for years, and she loves picking out clothes for colourful Lupita.

“Lupita loves fun, bold looks,” Micaela tells Us Weekly. “The key to nailing her look is to make sure that a dress doesn’t overwhelm her but choosing silhouettes that are flattering no matter the fabric. The easy way to copy her style is to look for chiffon and silk pieces or skirts with an accordion pleat, so it can have a great movement. You’ll be ready to twirl!”

Micaela has a large set of bright clothing to pick out for Lupita’s summer wardrobe this year, revealing she goes all out for colours and prints in the warm seasons.

“There’s nothing more exciting than spring and summer fashion; it’s the best time to dress up in my opinion and there’s so much going on this season,” she shares. “I’m loving the athleisure wear and the relaxed, elevated approach that we’re seeing a lot of. It really is more sophisticated comfort, the athleisure wear with sneakers or heels that lend themselves to an athletic vibe – it’s a fun ’90s redux. I’m enjoying that. Or a more glamorous approach, anything romantic and pretty pastels. I’m loving flowers, lots of either floral prints or flowers on clothes is so great.”

“For my clients and myself, we try to go towards pastels and romantic floral prints and a lot of sequins that aren’t super blingy,” the stylist adds. “I’ve been loving matte sequins and reverse sequin effects, because you can work in a subtle glitz like they’ve done on Valentino and Gucci runways. I’m very into big beading and threadwork and intricate designs in general.”
