Lucy Boynton has been confirmed as the lead in a new Marianne Faithfull biopic.

The British actress, who is best known for playing Queen frontman Freddie Mercury’s girlfriend Mary Austin in 2018’s Bohemian Rhapsody, was first rumoured to be portraying the 1960s icon back in October, and her casting was officially announced on Tuesday.

Boynton will also serve as an executive producer on Ian Bonhote’s new film, titled Faithfull, alongside Julia Taylor-Stanley, Colin Vaines, and Andee Ryder.

“I fell in love with this project the second I read it so I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of telling Marianne’s story both as an actor and, for the first time, as an executive producer, especially alongside this creative team,” she said in a statement. “I can’t wait to really get started.”

Set in London in the mid-1960s, Faithfull will follow the singer-songwriter’s roller coaster journey from being discovered as a convent schoolgirl at the age of 17, finding fame as a pop idol, living through hedonistic times and a tumultuous romance with Mick Jagger, to ending up as a homeless drug addict in Soho.

“Marianne is an extraordinary woman who rebelled against the male-dominated music industry,” Bonhote added. “The film will explore female-issues as well as the injustices she suffered in her quest to be recognised as an artist. I’m honoured to collaborate with Lucy and Julia to shine a light on Marianne’s timeless story.”

Casting is currently underway for an actor to play the Rolling Stones frontman ahead of the movie’s start date in the autumn.

“I am delighted that my story is finally being made with my dream team of Lucy, Julia and Ian,” Faithfull, 73, added.

Georgia May Jagger has been tapped to front Miu Miu’s new Ceremony campaign.

The London-based model, who is the daughter of Jerry Hall and Mick Jagger, has a close working relationship with the quirky Italian fashion label, having previously fronted the fall/ winter Other Conversations advertising and walked the runway in the resort 2019 show.

Now, Georgia is appearing in the marketing imagery for the brand’s latest capsule collection.

“Encapsulating the irreverent spirit of Miu Miu, Georgia May Jagger fluctuates between innocence and seduction in a new series shot by Emma Craft. Set against the backdrop of a rural dreamscape, the dual nature of the Miu Miu girl radiates in timeless photographs that document pieces from the brand’s Ceremony collection,” a Miu Miu representative said in a statement. “Timed to chime perfectly with the party season, Ceremony is a capsule that celebrates Miu Miu’s quintessential feminine signatures but always with a playfully subversive twist.”

One photo shows Georgia posing in a white dress with black sequin bow detailing and retro-style cat eye sunglasses, while another depicts the 27-year-old standing on a staircase in a silky black trouser and top combination, with the look accessorised with orange pumps and a red handbag.

The line also includes patent leather pumps, crystal headbands, and leather purses.

“Silk and lace, ribbons and bows, sequins and crystals embellish timelessly elegant pieces designed to be worn with ease and to facilitate a young woman’s life in a determinedly light-hearted manner,” the rep added. “The look is finished with ladylike purses suspended from polished chain shoulder straps, cat-eye sunglasses and Mary Jane pumps with a chunky heel worn, should the Miu Miu girl so desire, with knee-high socks.”

Items are priced from $215 – $3,540 (£170 – £2,795).

Ageless fashion icon Betsey Johnson will undergo open heart surgery in Los Angeles on Thursday (04Apr19).

The designer decided to go public with her operation after learning Mick Jagger is having heart surgery in New York.

A breast cancer survivor, Betsey tells WWD.com, “To me, open heart surgery means they have to get the saw out. They can’t go through veins and arteries. For this, they have to cut me open…

“They said my aorta is the size of a 300-pound guy, but the walls are very thin. This little one-inch accordion gizmo is being thrown in and they will remove my aorta. They say it really works and my doctor has done a million of these procedures.”

And she owes the husband of a big fan thanks for setting her up with one of the best heart surgeons in California after she suffered a series of “baby seizures”.

“His wife is an ex-Betsey punk rock ‘n’ roll dresser of mine,” she says of the guy behind her operation. “I never stop running into girlfriends, fans and supporters.”

Meanwhile Johnson is going into the surgery a little cautious, because her mother died from an operation over four decades ago.

“That was so long ago and there was a glitch in the testing,” the designer explains. “They have done so much testing on me… You have to be one of the lucky ones to get one of these insanely precise robots to assist your doctor.

“(And) if anything goes whoops, I am very, very happy to have lived a wonderful life, full of love and support… I’m happy to think and to know that, ‘Boy, I’ve had a great lucky life just filled with the best – family, friends, work, everything.”
