Bottega Veneta’s popular The Pouch handbag has been named as the “most-wanted” item of 2019.

As part of their annual Year in Fashion report, analysts at Lyst have looked at data, queries, page views, and sales metrics across six million fashion products from over 12,000 online stores as well as the global media coverage and social media mentions generated by the biggest brands and trends.

As part of this research, they also rounded up the pieces that have driven the biggest spikes over the last 12 months, and crowned The Pouch purse in the top spot.

“Bottega Veneta’s The Pouch bag has sparked more than 10,000 views a month since its launch,” a Lyst representative commented. “Page views increased 297 per cent on Lyst in September. The bag was seen on editors, celebrities, and influencers worldwide; Rosie Huntington-Whiteley Instagrammed it 39 times in the space of three months.”

Since Daniel Lee joined Bottega Veneta in June 2018, the Italian fashion house has undergone a huge revamp, with the designer winning acclaim for his minimalist designs and Stretch sandals, which immediately sold out upon release following the launch of the label’s pre-fall 2019 collection.

Accordingly, the Stretch sandals followed in second place on Lyst’s round-up, with Gucci’s GG logo belt in third, and Jacquemus’ Le Chiquito bag in fourth. Other sought-after pieces included Prada’s logo bucket hat, Louis Vuitton’s Multi Pochette bag, Ganni’s Checked Seersucker Midi Dress, Sandy Liang’s Fleece Jacket, Weekday’s Rowe Sky Blue Jeans, and Gucci’s GG Supreme Messenger bag.

Elsewhere, the Alexander McQueen oversized sneakers topped the list of Hottest Women’s Products in the first quarter of 2019.

“Searched every two minutes on Lyst, they were the brand’s bestselling product this year,” a spokesperson added.

The top collaborations were between Off-White x IKEA, Sacai x Nike, and Reformation x New Balance, with the main breakout brands including Bottega Veneta, Pyer Moss, Jacquemus, Paco Rabanne, Molly Goddard, Richard Quinn, Saks Potts, and Telfar.

Molly Goddard wants to ban people from using their phones at her shows.

The British fashion designer revealed that the reason she doesn’t include a show-stopping dress for the finale of her runway shows is because she hates audience members leaning forward and taking photos to share on Instagram.

“It’s almost like you want to say to people – sit with your back straight, don’t lean forward and put your phones away. I’d love to ban phones at the show, but no-one will let me,” Molly told Vogue Australia.

Her label, which she runs with her stylist sister Alice Goddard, was catapulted to fame when Jodie Comer wore a Molly Goddard pink tulle dress during an episode of Killing Eve.

And the fuschia Daria gown, which features more than 90 metres of tulle, was put on display as part of The Costume Institute’s Camp: Notes On Fashion exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York back in May.

Molly was also keen to make sure that her spring/summer 2020 collection, which she presented during London Fashion Week, focused on different silhouettes and even featured French-inspired knitwear.

“This season, the focus is on volume and all the different ways of doing it; but there are slimmer silhouettes, too. It is very pretty, but there’s a kind of clunkiness. This collection brings together quite raw elements… We’ve also done quite a bit of knitwear – I wanted to create something that felt like a posh French kids’ jumpers in lambswool, and classic cardigans that don’t pull in,” Molly added.

Extinction Rebellion activists staged a “funeral” procession on the last day of London Fashion Week.

The socio-political movement was established in May 2018, with members seeking to protest against climate breakdown and biodiversity loss, and the demonstrations ramped up in April, when activists occupied five prominent sites in central London.

Organisers at Extinction Rebellion took aim at the U.K. fashion industry by convening in Trafalgar Square on Tuesday evening, with participants wearing veils and funeral attire.

After marching through the streets, the protest concluded with people gathering around two black coffins and throwing flowers to symbolise the “death” of fast fashion and to “grieve for all that is lost”.

“Fashion is one of the most polluting industries in the world; it is also one of the most influential. During fashion month, the industry travels to global destinations to parade, see and buy fashion but London Fashion Week also sets a global precedent,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “It helps create the desire that results in the consumption of fast fashion and beyond. Fashion should be a cultural signifier of our times, yet the industry still adheres to an archaic system of seasonal fashion, adding pressure to relentlessly create new fashion from new materials.”

Last week, Extinction Rebellion protesters also conducted “die-ins” outside of the main entrance of the official trade show, with members donning white dresses featuring “bleeding hearts” glued to the front.

Officials at the British Fashion Council have not issued an official statement in response to the protests.

Extinction Rebellion activists are campaigning for the cancellation of London Fashion Week.  

The socio-political movement was established in May 2018, with members seeking to protest against climate breakdown and biodiversity loss, and the demonstrations ramped up in April, when activists occupied five prominent sites in central London.  

Now, organisers at Extinction Rebellion have taken to social media to announce that they plan to hold events calling for the end of the British capital’s biggest fashion event, which is due to run from 12-17 September.  

“We face an existential threat if we do not change course by 2020, yet meaningful action has not yet begun,” a representative wrote on Instagram, along with a picture featuring the words “Cancel London Fashion Week” in bold font. “We need culture to lead the way. Fashion is one of the most polluting industries and one of the most influential. Fashion should be a cultural signifier of our times, and yet it still adheres to an archaic system of seasonal fashion and relentless newness at a time of emergency.”  

They went on to claim that they had sent a letter to British Fashion Council (BFC) bosses, including chief executive officer Caroline Rush, last month, urging them to scrap the upcoming shows and to declare a “climate and ecological emergency”.  

“We will not stand by while the natural world is being taken from beneath our feet. We will send a clear sign to the fashion industry that business, as usual, is leading us to extinction,” an organiser added.  

In a Facebook post, members of Extinction Rebellion also claimed they will be holding “actions” from 13-16 September and will hold a “funeral procession” at 6 pm on the Strand on 17 September to symbolise the “death” of the spectacle.  

The BFC is yet to issue an official statement on the potential protests.

Molly Goddard has designed a tote bag for the London Fashion Week Festival.

The London-born designer won the 2018 BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund in May (18) and is quickly building up a reputation for dresses featuring sheer elements and layers of frothy tulle, with her celebrity fans including Rihanna, Adwoa Aboah and Zendaya.

Now, Goddard has been tapped by organisers of the upcoming London Fashion Week Festival to create the official limited-edition tote for the event.

“Molly’s designs perfectly capture the creativity and energy of London Fashion Week Festival,” said Caroline Rush, chief executive of the British Fashion Council, in a statement. “We were delighted to work with Molly this season on this one-off collector’s tote and I look forward to seeing the bags used throughout London and further afield.”

Goddard specialises in traditional hand-craft techniques such as hand pleating, smocking and crocheting. However, her tote bag for the fashion extravaganza is set to include a graphic red and white chequered print.

“This is the print we used for our last show’s crew T-shirts. They are always really special as they celebrate all the work everyone puts into the show and we wanted to share this!” the designer explained.

The tote bag will be included in the Silver, Gold and LUXE ticket packages for the festival, while there will be a small number available to purchase at the event. Amy Powney of label Mother of Pearl and designer Vivienne Westwood have previously been commissioned to design bags for the festival.

Goddard presented her first collection at London Fashion Week in 2014, and is due to unveil her latest line on 15 September. The London Fashion Week Festival runs from 20-23 September.

Victoria Beckham will show her next collection during London Fashion Week.

Earlier this year (18), fashion publication WWD reported that the British fashion designer was planning to celebrate her brand’s 10th anniversary by shifting her presentation back to the U.K. following several years of unveiling collections as part of New York Fashion Week.

On Monday (16Jul18), officials for London Fashion Week announced that Beckham would be showing in the capital city alongside several other major labels.

“Just announced! The provisional September 2018 #LFW & Events schedule is now online. Highlights include an exciting line-up of @BFC #NEWGEN recipients, @anyahindmarch, @Burberry, @JW_Anderson & @VictoriaBeckham,” they posted on Instagram.

Beckham launched her eponymous label in September 2008 with a low-key presentation and has since gone on to expand her company to include accessories and a limited-edition make-up collection with Estee Lauder.

The 44-year-old is set to present on 16 September at 10am, however, she has not yet commented on her plans for the show or hinted at a location.

Among the new names to join the London calendar are Alexa Chung, who will drop the latest ranges from her ALEXACHUNG namesake brand, as well as menswear designers Bobby Abley and Kiko Kostadinov.

Other designers to watch out for on the London calendar include Anya Hindmarch, Molly Goddard, Gareth Pugh, Temperley London and Mary Katrantzou, who will show on 15 September, while presentations for Jenny Packham, Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, Roland Mouret and Nicholas Kirkwood will continue the following day.

In addition, former Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci is set to drop his debut line for English heritage fashion label Burberry on the evening of 17 September.

Molly Goddard is hoping to assert femininity and empowerment through her designs.

The British designer has emerged as a rising star in the fashion world thanks to her unique dresses which often feature sheer elements and layers of frothy tulle. Goddard was also crowned the winner of the 2018 BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund earlier this month (May18) receiving a cash prize of $271,000 (£200,000), and is hoping that her time in the spotlight can help challenge stereotypical ideas of how women should dress.

“You don’t need to wear a suit to show you’ve got power,” the 30-year-old insisted in an interview with Elle U.K. “You don’t have to reject those things (girly clothes) to be taken seriously.”

The brand, which launched in 2014, has since become a favourite with models and celebrities including Adwoa Aboah, Solange Knowles and Zendaya. One of her most famous clients is Rihanna, with the Barbadian singer often choosing Goddard’s pastel frilly frocks on the red carpet. And the fashion designer believes the Work hitmaker perfectly reflects her label’s ethos.

“Rihanna is a great Molly Goddard woman,” she smiled. “She just doesn’t give a s**t. She wears what she wants and is really relaxed about it.”

And unlike other high fashion brands, Goddard is adamant she wants to create garments for real women as well as celebrities, often turning to her own friends for inspiration.

“Knowing my friends and seeing what they felt comfortable in has affected a lot of the decisions I’ve made. I can’t imagine doing castings and fittings the way others do,” she claimed. “My friends aren’t all six-foot tall and a size eight. I don’t see a distinction between designing for my friends and customers. They’re all women with different figures and I think about that when I make things. I also think about me – I have boobs!”

Molly Goddard has been named the winner of the 2018 BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund.

The London-born designer, who is quickly building up a reputation for dresses featuring sheer elements and layers of frothy tulle, scooped the prestigious prize at an event held in the British capital on Wednesday night (02May18).

Regarding Goddard’s win, British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful said in a statement published by the publication that the judging panel were impressed by her focus and work ethic.

“Molly Goddard is an original. She has a singular vision and an extraordinary focus that has propelled her label to an international level,” he shared. “A playful edge and a strong DNA make for a singularly off-beat formula. She is the definition of talent and what Britain does best in this creative industry.”

Established in 2008, the fashion fund aims to discover new talent and accelerate the growth of a designer’s business over a twelve-month period through mentoring and the awarding of a cash prize of $271,000 (£200,000).

Goddard beat out Huishan Zhang, David Koma, Rejina Pyo, as well as Marques’ Almeida’s Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida and Le Kilt’s Samantha McCoach, who were all shortlisted for the award.

The 29-year-old launched her brand in 2014 on a tight budget and has since gone on to garner a number of celebrity fans including Rihanna, Adwoa Aboah and Zendaya.

And the fashion star is amazed at the pace with which her label has grown.

“We made money from making and selling clothes. It’s hard,” she told Vogue. “It is difficult to not owe anyone money and not to lose any money – that in itself is an achievement. We decided to just take it really slowly, and it’s amazing that it worked.”

In 2017, the prize was shared between two recipients, Mother of Pearl and Palmer Harding.

Previous winners of the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund include Christopher Kane, Erdem, Mary Katrantzou, Nicholas Kirkwood, Peter Pilotto and Sophia Webster.
