Naomi Campbell felt “divine” wearing sparkly Pat McGrath lipstick at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2016.

The supermodel attended the star-studded ceremony held at New York’s Madison Square Garden wearing a mint green velvet minidress by Brandon Maxwell.

However, it was her glittery red lips that made heads turn, and Naomi said that show-stopping look was created by her longtime friend and legendary make-up artist Pat McGrath.

Asked in an interview with Elle magazine when she feels her most divine, the 50-year-old replied: “Everytime Pat McGrath puts her wand on me.”

“I mean wearing the red sparkly lip to the MTV Awards I really felt like I was Dorothy wearing her red shoes going down the yellow brick road. I’ve never seen lipstick get so much attention in my life. It was incredible,” she added.

The British supermodel, who was named the first-ever global face of Pat McGrath Labs last month, confessed that the make-up artist has made a whopping 26 shades of foundation especially for her and has got her into wearing primer.

“I was never into primer. I like to use my serums and creams but Pat’s is so light,” she explained, noting that she’s now become a big fan of Pat McGrath Labs Sublime Perfection Primer. “And the foundation I have – she made 26 for me – is like a second skin. It’s almost like a moisturiser. It’s not heavy.”

Brandon Maxwell created Naomi Campbell’s 2016 MTV Video Music Awards dress on her dining table the night before the show.

During a chat with Karlie Kloss for her No Filter with Naomi YouTube series earlier this week, the British supermodel remembered how she called up the New York-based designer with a fashion crisis the night before she had to present Rihanna with an award during the ceremony at Madison Square Garden and he quickly leapt into action to make sure she had something to wear.

“I had to give Rihanna an MTV Award three years ago (sic),” she explained. “Brandon, I called him the night before and said, ‘I’m coming into New York from L.A. and I don’t have a dress’. Brandon came and made the dress on my dining table for that night… He’s amazing.”

The 49-year-old took to the stage wearing a white one-shoulder column dress with a thigh-high split and wore another of his designs – a mint green strapless minidress – on the red carpet. She did not specify which one he made at the last minute.

Karlie then shared a similar story about the designer, recalling how he cut her long white cutout dress following the 2016 Met Gala to turn it into a minidress.

“One year, I went to the Met Gala and wore a dress that he created. For the after-party, he literally took scissors and just chopped it off into a little minidress and I went off to the after-party,” she gushed of her Project Runway co-star. “I think he has this love of women, of wanting to create fashion that really celebrates the female form and makes women feel beautiful and love their curves, love their body. I think Brandon does a great job of that.”

Both models also heaped praise on Maxwell and fellow Project Runway star Christian Siriano for helping make face masks during the coronavirus crisis.

Maxwell listened to their chat and thanked them both for lifting his mood in a lengthy Instagram post.

Miley Cyrus didn’t wear shorts or bikinis for years after her infamous performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards because she was hurt by the memes about her appearance.

The Wrecking Ball singer hit the stage wearing a fuzzy grey bodysuit and then stripped it off to reveal nude Latex underwear ahead of her raunchy duet with Robin Thicke, which hit headlines worldwide.

Following the controversial show, trolls shared images of Miley’s bottom in the nude pants alongside pictures of a plucked turkey or chicken, and speaking to Demi Lovato on her IGTV show Bright Minded: Live with Miley, the 27-year-old admitted the memes made her stop wearing bikinis and shorts.

“I basically went through two or three years where I wouldn’t wear shorts. I stopped wearing skirts on stage, all this s**t, because after the VMAs and I had on my cute new bodysuit, everyone started comparing me to a turkey,” she explained. “I was like just so skinny and so pasty and they kept putting me next to this turkey, and I was feeling so bad about myself that I did not wear a bikini for like two years.

“No one thought that that would’ve ever made me feel some type of way… It was just really, really hurtful to be so body-shamed like that. And it really affected me in my personal life.”

Miley also confessed she felt like a “fraud” for presenting herself as super confident to the public when she was really insecure on the inside.

“What was so hard about it was my brand has always been about being so unapologetically myself and being confident, and the worst thing that I would feel like I would be to my fans would be lying or a fraud,” she shared. “I felt like having this persona of being the most confident girl on the planet was actually kind of fraud because I was so insecure on the inside that in my personal life I wasn’t even wearing bathing suits and shorts. And when I was wearing like my little leotards and things, I had on f**king four pairs of tights because I was so insecure.”

Lady Gaga wore her infamous meat dress to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards in protest of a discriminatory U.S. military policy.

The controversial act, dubbed Don’t ask, don’t tell (DADT), was introduced by former U.S. President Bill Clinton in 1994 and prohibited any homosexual or bisexual member of the armed forces from disclosing their sexual orientation.

However, in a new interview with Allure magazine, Gaga revealed that she wore her raw meat dress, created by Franc Fernandez, to the awards ceremony alongside members of the military who had come out.

“I went to that awards show with service people who were discharged from the military because they were coming out or were found out,” she explained. “I wore meat as a representation of the fact that we’re all the same.”

The act was finally repealed by former U.S. President Barack Obama a short time after Gaga’s red carpet protest.

The Born This Way hitmaker recently launched her own make-up line, Haus Laboratories, and wants her brand to be an inclusive champion for the LGBTQ+ community.

“I would like all gender identities to know very clearly that they are included, and never exploited, ever,” the 33-year-old stated. “I want that little boy at home that might like to be called a girl to say, ‘Mommy, I want to wear Dynasty. It’s a Glam Attack.’ And then Mommy goes, ‘Oh, my son wants to be called a girl, and he wants the Glam Attack.’ And then she goes and she gets it for him. And he uses it. And then there’s a bond.

“If I’m not changing people’s lives, what are we doing here?”

Rose McGowan’s iconic VMAs dress was her way of responding to an alleged sexual assault.

The former Charmed actress hit headlines around the world when she walked the red carpet with her then-partner Marilyn Manson at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards practically naked in a sheer black beaded dress which exposed her bare breasts and her animal-print thong.

Speaking about the provocative outfit to actress Jameela Jamil on her I Weight interview series, the 45-year-old explained that it was her first red carpet since she was allegedly sexually assaulted by disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein in 1997 and it was her way of responding to it.

“I did that for a reason. It was my first public appearance after being raped,” she said. “And I thought, it was kind of like Russell Crowe and Gladiator when it comes out in the ring and he’s like, ‘Are you not entertained?’ And that was why I did that. That was my response to being assaulted.”

The prominent figure in #MeToo movement accused Weinstein of raping her in a hotel room at the Sundance Film Festival in 1997, allegations he has strenuously denied.

Rose explained the dress during an appearance on The Dr. Oz Show last year, saying, “I’ve never worn something like that before or since. That was a political statement. … Of course, there was no Twitter at the time or Instagram, no way to speak for yourself.”

In the past, she has also revealed she had to kneel in the car on the way to the red carpet to avoid getting “griddle butt” from the intricate beading.

“I had to sit on my knees with the dress hiked up around me, because I knew I’d end up in the Enquirer like ‘Rose McGowan’s mystery disease of the week!'” she told chat show host Jay Leno in 1999.

Michael Caine has recalled how Beyonce once spoke to him about her desire to win an Oscar.

The Hollywood veteran and the music superstar both appeared in 2002 spy comedy Austin Powers in Goldmember, in which Beyonce won praise for her performance as Foxxy Cleopatra.

However, in a new interview with Rolling Stone, Michael opened up about a chat he once had with the former Destiny’s Child singer on the set of the project, and how she was very open about her acting goals.

“I knew she was a singer and had a group. I asked her one day, ‘What do you want to do with your life, Be-yons?’ I always called her ‘Be-yons.’ And she said, ‘I want to win the Academy Award for acting,'” the 85-year-old remembered. “She was very good in the movie, a very competent actress, and I thought she could get somewhere with this. She’s gone far beyond my world. She’s so big now.”

To date, Beyonce has continued to dominate the music industry with her hit songs, winning 22 Grammy Awards, and receiving 66 nominations. She also has 25 MTV Video Music Awards to her name, though the closest she has come to the Academy Awards was for her performance in 2006 musical movie Dreamgirls, in which she played the lead character, Deena Jones.

Though she didn’t score any nominations, three songs she sings in the film – Listen, Love You I Do, and Patience – were nominated for Best Original Song, while Dreamgirls garnered nods in eight categories at the 2007 edition of the prizegiving, with Jennifer Hudson eventually receiving the golden statuette for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Effie White.

Beyonce, 37, has since had other acting roles, including in 2008’s Cadillac Records, in which she played Etta James, while she is currently voicing the role of Nala in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of The Lion King.

She was at one time also attached to star in Clint Eastwood’s A Star Is Born remake but had to step down when she fell pregnant with her daughter Blue Ivy, now seven.

Eastwood subsequently abandoned the project and Bradley Cooper took over as director and star, recruiting Lady Gaga to play his onscreen love interest.

Gaga was nominated in the Best Actress category when the Academy Awards nods were announced on Tuesday (22Jan19).

Jennifer Lopez wore six different Versace outfits during the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards on Monday night (20Aug18).

The superstar, who was presented with the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the ceremony held at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City, pulled out all the stops for her appearance at the star-studded music bash.

Walking the red carpet with her boyfriend Alex Rodriguez, Jennifer sported a figure-hugging silver gown from the Italian fashion house with matching platform high heel sandals.

“Music icon @jlo at the 2018 #VMAs in an #AtelierVersace silver chainmail gown, with one shoulder neckline, intricate all-over Swarovski crystal mesh accents and daring thigh-high slit,” a Versace representative captioned a photo of the singer on the brand’s Instagram page.

But the Versace looks didn’t stop there; Jennifer wowed in a number of pieces from the luxury brand, led by designer Donatella Versace, when she performed a medley of her greatest hits during the show.

Kicking off with Waiting for Tonight, the entertainer sported a gold sequin bodysuit, crystal-studded tights and a flowing blue and white silk cape featuring Versace’s Baroque-inspired emblems.

She then switched her cape for a large white faux fur coat as she belted out 2002’s All I Have and proceeded to change into a gold jumpsuit with plunging neckline and gold sequin jacket while she performed tunes I’m Real, Jenny from the Block and her latest song, Dinero.

The 49-year-old removed her jacket as she took to the stage to collect the Vanguard Award but had another full costume change when she accepted the award for best collaboration with Cardi B and DJ Khaled on Dinero, and sparkled in a strapless dress with high-low skirt and a large belt.

And it wasn’t only Jennifer who was on board with the metallic trend on the night, Bebe Rexha stood out in a silver crop top and skirt from Christian Siriano, while singer SZA wowed in a light pink fringed dress from Rodarte.

Amber Rose used her 2018 MTV Video Music Awards outfit to protest “derogatory labels”.

The model and activist stepped out at the music ceremony held at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Monday night (20Aug18) in a dominatrix-inspired ensemble including red latex corset, face mask, fishnet tights and thigh-high boots.

Speaking to People reporters on the red carpet, Amber explained that her cone-shaped bra was a tribute to Madonna’s iconic Blonde Ambition tour costume, while the rest of her “intergalactic space s**t” look was put together with the intention of opposing stereotypes.

“Regardless of how you dress, that doesn’t make you a s**t, it doesn’t make you a w**re,” she explained. “Those are all just derogatory labels that men and women use against other women to put us down for being confident in our sexuality without even knowing our past sexual history.”

In a video uploaded to Instagram shortly before Amber arrived at the star-studded bash, she also shared that she wanted her outfit to help raise awareness for her upcoming SlutWalk event. The fourth annual protest, in which activists call for an end to rape culture, victim blaming and shaming of sexual assault victims, is due to take place in Pershing Square, Los Angeles on 6 October.

“Hey guys, it’s your girl Amber Rose, and I’m just here sitting on this soft bed, thinking about my SlutWalk this year,” the 34-year-old commented. “I want you ladies to come out and protest against rape culture, sexual violence, slut-shaming, victim-blaming and double standards. I want all the misogynistic men to be so f**king mad this year that we’re not only confident in our bodies, but we’re confident in our sexuality as well. Be mad, ooh, be extra mad.”

Amber previously made a sartorial statement at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2014 when she turned up in a body-baring Laurel DeWitt silver chain-link dress.

New mum Cardi B took the MTV Video Music Awards red carpet by storm on Monday night (20Aug18) in a couture fuchsia gown.

The Bodak Yellow rapper welcomed daughter Kulture with Migos star Offset in July (18) and it appears she has already lost most of her pregnancy weight, as she showed off her svelte figure at the prizegiving, held at New York’s Radio City Music Hall.

The gorgeous, off-the-shoulder dress she chose to wear for her big comeback was custom designed by Nicolas Jebran, and featured a thigh-high slit. She completed the look with strappy pink heels and emerald Lorraine Schwartz earrings, while debuting a chic bob.

Cardi previously teased she would not be making a public appearance until her body snapped back from the pregnancy, informing fans last month on Instagram she was using TeaMi tea products and a popular waist training device to try and shed the baby weight.

“The snap back begins!” she exclaimed. “S**t, I’m about to be a bad b**ch again!”

“I’m trying to pee and s**t all this lil weight on me,” she added. “Ya ain’t seeing my body till i snap back motherf**kers… This @teamiblends gonna do the work!!! Teamiblends and waist straining all summer shlong (sic)!”

While Cardi chose a more elegant and muted outfit for the VMAs, other celebrities decided to show their wild sides.

Amber Rose turned up to the event as a devilish dominatrix in an all red latex one-piece, accessorising the sexy outfit with even more raunchy flair by adding red fishnets, thigh-high boots and a whip to the look.

Ariana Grande, who is up for Artist of the Year among her five nominations on the night, took a decidedly different style turn than her famous peers, opting for a fairytale look instead. Accompanied by her comedian fiance Pete Davidson on the red carpet, the loved up No Tears Left to Cry hitmaker tapped into her inner pixie by donning a silver mini-dress with matching over-the-knee boots.
