The cardigan Kurt Cobain wore for his 1993 MTV Unplugged performance has sold for a staggering $334,000 (£260,380) at auction.

The Nirvana frontman’s widow, Courtney Love, gifted the mohair sweater to Jackie Farry, who worked as a nanny for the couple’s daughter Frances Bean Cobain, after the rocker’s 1994 death – and she later sold it.

Now, the anonymous businessman who purchased it at an auction four years ago for $137,500 (£112,000) has made a huge profit on the item. It was sold via California-based Julien’s Auctions on Saturday alongside a letter of authenticity from Farry.

The cardigan was expected to bring in big money, after a fan offered the pre-auction minimum bid of $200,000 (£163,000) weeks before the auction went live. Experts had predicted the sale price could rise as high as $300,000 ($245,000).

The cardigan was previously described as “a blend of acrylic, mohair and Lycra with five-button closure (one button absent), with two exterior pockets, a burn hole and discolouration near left pocket and discolouration on right pocket”.

A spokesman for Julien’s emphasised that the item had not been cleaned since it was worn by the Smells Like Teen Spirit hitmaker.

“It’s very important that we don’t wash it,” Darren Julien recently told Rolling Stone. “The stains are still there. There’s even cigarette burns that you can see on the sweater.”

Marc Jacobs has been named as the recipient of the first-ever MTV Fashion Vanguard Award.

The New York-based designer unveiled his first collection under his namesake brand back in 1986 and has since gone on to branch out into a number of categories, including perfume and cosmetics.

Now, bosses at MTV and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) have announced that Jacobs is to be honoured for making an “indelible impact” on the industry at the upcoming 2019 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).

“Jacobs and music are inextricably linked, from tapping Cher and Missy Elliott for his ad campaigns, to dressing fashion icons Lady Gaga, Cardi B and Nicki Minaj,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “With a legacy that spans over three decades, Jacobs is a preeminent figure in fashion and music, perfectly embodying the spirit of the Fashion Trailblazer Award.”

In addition, Jacobs and his team are working with MTV to create a multimedia activation on the red carpet to highlight his creative vision at the event. The on-the-ground experience will have a dedicated photographer and stylised elements.

Jacobs’s clothing has been tied to music videos since the start of his career and he used the vintage MTV logo for pieces he designed in his spring 2017 resort collection.

“First of all, MTV always had the coolest graphics,” he told Vogue of his design inspiration. “It was very spot-on for what MTV was saying and who they were saying it to. It really spoke to me, and I think that generation of people at that time.

“I’ve maintained them in my memory bank, and they’ve never gone away. They’re iconic.”

The MTV Video Music Awards will take place in Newark, New Jersey on 26 August. Comedian Sebastian Maniscalco is hosting the event.

Dennis Quaid wants his The Parent Trap co-star Lindsay Lohan to take a stab at staging an acting comeback.

The actor, who starred as Lohan’s dad in the 1998 comedy, believes it’s ”really time” for the 32-year-old to return to the screen, revealing he is still in awe of her talent.

Quaid revisited working with Lohan during a recent interview for Extra and called the actress “one of the most talented people I’ve ever met at 11 years of age”.

Lohan stepped out of the spotlight following a series of legal woes and hasn’t appeared on the big screen since her role in 2013 drama The Canyons, and now Quaid thinks she needs to get back to performing after dabbling with charity work, business and reality TV in Europe.

“I think it’s really time,” he added.

The A Dog’s Journey star previously gushed about Lohan on The IMDB Show last month, noting her performance as twins Hallie Parker and Annie James left a lasting impression on him.

“She had me believing they were two different kids. She was a savant,” Quaid continued. “She could just channel anything like that. Some people are like that and the rest of us have to work at it.”

It appears Lohan may soon have more time on her hands to return to her roots. She recently headlined the MTV reality series Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club, which documented the launch of her Mykonos venture in Greece. But sources have revealed to editors at Page Six that the series will not return for a second season. According to the outlet, the nightclub has also shut its doors. The venue opened in May 2018.

Camila Cabello wowed in red at the 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards on Sunday night (04Nov18).

The Havana singer ensured she stopped and posed for photographers as she stepped out at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre in Bilbao, Spain for the music celebration, and wowed in a crimson ballgown with spaghetti straps from Australian fashion designer Alex Perry.

Camila, who was feted with four awards on the night, topped off her sophisticated ensemble with earrings and bracelets from Norman Silverman.

Among the other celebrities to dress up for the bash included Hailee Steinfeld, who hosted the ceremony.

The Most Girls hitmaker made a splash on the pink carpet in a bold silver satin minidress with plunging neckline and iridescent sequins dotted over the bodice from Armani Prive, and chose to complete her ensemble with crystal studded stilettos from Christian Louboutin.

Elsewhere, Halsey had a sartorial moment in a beige lace gown from Raisa & Vanessa which featured a graphic silver crystal pattern. The star chose to complement her outfit with large silver hoops, and alongside an image of her posing in her extravagant dress on Instagram, she simply wrote: “let em eat cake.”

Lindsay Lohan made an appearance at the gig too, and looked very glamorous in a gold pleated dress from Saint Laurent, while Bebe Rexha followed in her footsteps in a silver sequin dress, black leather boots and heavy gold chains from the upcoming Moschino x H&M collection.

And Ashlee Simpson and her husband Evan Ross once again proved they are the masters of matching outfits.

Ashlee rocked a high neck black dress from Raisa & Vanessa and Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, while Evan sported a striped black and white ASOS suit with Saint Laurent boots.

Dua Lipa, Rosalia, Jason Derulo, Debby Ryan, and David Guetta were also in attendance.

Amber Rose used her 2018 MTV Video Music Awards outfit to protest “derogatory labels”.

The model and activist stepped out at the music ceremony held at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Monday night (20Aug18) in a dominatrix-inspired ensemble including red latex corset, face mask, fishnet tights and thigh-high boots.

Speaking to People reporters on the red carpet, Amber explained that her cone-shaped bra was a tribute to Madonna’s iconic Blonde Ambition tour costume, while the rest of her “intergalactic space s**t” look was put together with the intention of opposing stereotypes.

“Regardless of how you dress, that doesn’t make you a s**t, it doesn’t make you a w**re,” she explained. “Those are all just derogatory labels that men and women use against other women to put us down for being confident in our sexuality without even knowing our past sexual history.”

In a video uploaded to Instagram shortly before Amber arrived at the star-studded bash, she also shared that she wanted her outfit to help raise awareness for her upcoming SlutWalk event. The fourth annual protest, in which activists call for an end to rape culture, victim blaming and shaming of sexual assault victims, is due to take place in Pershing Square, Los Angeles on 6 October.

“Hey guys, it’s your girl Amber Rose, and I’m just here sitting on this soft bed, thinking about my SlutWalk this year,” the 34-year-old commented. “I want you ladies to come out and protest against rape culture, sexual violence, slut-shaming, victim-blaming and double standards. I want all the misogynistic men to be so f**king mad this year that we’re not only confident in our bodies, but we’re confident in our sexuality as well. Be mad, ooh, be extra mad.”

Amber previously made a sartorial statement at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2014 when she turned up in a body-baring Laurel DeWitt silver chain-link dress.

Lindsay Lohan keen to make live-action Little Mermaid with Meryl Streep

Lindsay Lohan has publicly declared to Disney that Ariel from The Little Mermaid would be her dream role.

In recent years the Mean Girls star has taken a break from acting and has focused on building a nightclub empire in Greece, though she’ll be back on the big screen in upcoming horror The Shadow Within.

And while she’s busy filming a new MTV reality series based on her Greek ventures, it seems as though Lindsay is ready to go back to acting full time.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday (14Aug18), Lindsay tagged Walt Disney Studios’ bosses in an image from 1989 animated classic The Little Mermaid, based on Hans Christian Andersen’s tale, showing Ariel, the mermaid who dreams of being a human, and sea witch Ursula, and Lindsay declared that she wanted the part.

“My dream role with #MerylStreep,” she wrote over the picture.

This isn’t the first time Lindsay has shared her desire to play the flame-haired Disney princess; in 2017 she told her Instagram followers: “I will sing again, as #ariel #thelittlemermaid @disney approve that #billcondon directs it along with my sister @alianamusic singing the theme song for the soundtrack.”

It’s not yet known if her public pleas have been listened to, as Disney executives have yet to announce the cast for the live-action remake of the story, which Rob Marshall is directing and Lin-Manuel Miranda is producing.

A separate Little Mermaid movie is about to be released in America and Britain, starring Shirley MacLaine and Poppy Drayton.

Live-action remakes of Disney animated classics Dumbo, Mulan and The Lion King will also be hitting theatres over the next two years.
