Kate Hudson’s boyfriend Danny Fujikawa chose the name for her new fashion venture.

The How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days actress is no stranger to the clothing industry, having launched activewear line Fabletics in partnership with JustFab in 2013 and worked with New York & Company as an ambassador for the clothing brand’s Soho Jeans collection.

In March, Kate also announced she was gearing up to unveil the Happy x Nature line, featuring organic and recycled fabrics, and in a new interview with The Telegraph, she credited her musician beau with dreaming up the name of the label.

‘He said, ‘That’s what people think you are, happy by nature,”‘ she recalled. “And I understand why people would associate me with that idea. The reality is that contentment is a discipline. Happiness is something that we cultivate. But I like the idea that nature can make us happy and can bring us joy. It works on lots of levels.”

The Happy x Nature collection is comprised of floral printed dresses, denim garments, boho-chic dresses, and T-shirts. Kate and the design team are endeavouring for the line to be as eco-aware as possible, right down to the fabric tags and biodegradable bags, as promoting sustainability is very important to the star.

“I love fashion and I always have, but the more you get involved in it, the more you see how irresponsible the industry has been with waste. We’ve spent so long thinking that ‘more’ means more luxurious, when we need to start thinking that simplicity is more beautiful. It’s time to start being more responsible,” the 40-year-old commented.

Elsewhere in the chat, Kate shared that she had named one item in the range – a strapless, tiered dress, after her mother – Hollywood icon Goldie Hawn.

Gabrielle Union has insisted her daughter Kaavia James has better style than she does.

The Being Mary Jane actress and her basketball player husband Dwyane Wade welcomed their firstborn via surrogate in November last year, and since then, Gabrielle has documented her tot’s day-to-day life on social media.

However, in a new interview with People, she noted that her style confidence has taken a knock since Kaavia James made her arrival.

“Dwyane and I thought we knew how to serve a look until Kaavia James came through to show us how it’s done,” Gabrielle laughed. “Mama is just trying to keep up!”

Earlier this year, the America’s Got Talent judge launched a special baby collection named after her daughter with New York & Company, and also created easy-to-wear pieces so she could twin with the nine-month-old.

Now, she’s focusing on her chic I’m Perfect capsule collection with the U.S. label, and invited women she’s inspired by – including basketball player Candace Parker, actress Dania Ramirez, model Isis King and dancer Nia Sioux – to appear in the accompanying campaign.

And the star is so excited about her previous collaborations with New York & Company, she’s keeping a few garments to show her daughter when she’s older.

“I can’t wait to show her the pieces from her own Kaavi James collection which were inspired by her,” the 46-year-old shared. “Kaavia has a very distinct personality and she’s very active, so often what I think looks great isn’t practical for her. While I love twinning with her, I cannot wait to encourage her to express her individuality.”

Gabrielle Union’s new baby fashion line is inspired by her five-month-old daughter Kaavia.

The She’s All That star will release the Kaavi James by Gabrielle Union capsule collection exclusively through New York & Company on Monday (06May19).

Speaking to WWD, the actress explained that the latest project felt like a “natural progression” and a reflection of where she is in her life right now.

“My collection is inspired by my daughter, Kaavia,” she confessed. “I wanted to create a baby collection because it was a natural progression where I am in my life now, and it has always been important to me to make sure that the collections that I design reflect a part of me and are true to what I think many women can relate to.”

The line features fleecy pants and coveralls, cotton-printed dresses, T-shirts and onesies available in sizes ranging between 0 to 24 months. There is also a sweater set that features Kaavi’s dog, Tre.

The 46-year-old went on to reflect on the similarities between the new line and her existing womenswear range, and shared that both projects were created to offer clothes that are stylish, affordable and accessible to everyone.

“My women’s wear clothing objective has always been to empower women and now I’m thinking about those exact same women with babies that are doing it all and want to dress their children in affordable, comfortable clothes,” the America’s Got Talent judge stated. “I wanted to create pieces that are all-inclusive – that both girls and boys could wear – and that were fun.”

Gabrielle Union was convinced she had missed her chance to front the fashion campaign of her dreams with New York & Company.

The 46 year old actress, who has been snagging screen gigs since she the late ’90s, thought she had reached her heyday in the style industry, admitting she was surprised when the brand bosses asked her to become an ambassador.

“The CEO of New York & Company came to me and was like, ‘We are looking for a new brand ambassador. We would love to create a Gabrielle Union line and would love for you to be the face of the 7th Avenue (collection),” she said on the latest episode of the Variety podcast Strictly Business. “I was sort of in disbelief… we’re not supposed to be getting these offers. I’m not supposed to be having this career resurgence, my value isn’t supposed to be this high.”

The Bring It On star thought that she was too old to bag an opportunity to create her own fashion line in her forties.

“They tell you that after 26, ‘Honey, hang it up,’” she explained. “Get prepared to play long suffering mothers who set up jokes and you don’t get to be a star. You’re past the ingenue stage.

“Your best days are behind you as a brand ambassador unless you can sell bleach. They don’t ever position it (age) as being in a position of power.”

Gabrielle launched her first line with New York & Company in 2017 and her latest collection dropped in January (19).

Actress Eva Mendes has flashbacks whenever she looks at a dress in her wardrobe.

Clothing means more to The Place Behind the Pines star than most, as she recalls fond memories whenever she views a treasured item in her closet.

“Whatever special occasion holds a dear place in my heart, I usually remember what I was wearing or what my mother was wearing or my sisters,” she explains to People. “When I was really little, my mom worked at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood. We would ride the bus to go to work, (and) I’d go to work with her. She would wear this red geisha gown that you had to wear at that time, and it was so beautiful. There’s so many memories tied to that.”

Eva, who is now a mother of two with longtime love Ryan Gosling, has also used the memories of her mum’s clothing to inspire her latest collection for New York & Company.

“When I think of my mom, her whole look wasn’t as uptight (in the ’70s) as maybe it was in the ’60s,” she explains. “I look at photos and there’s just more relaxed hair going on, bell bottom pants, bold patterns – and I love bold patterns. So I think I was really inspired by my mom, but also women like (actress) Gena Rowlands.”

The star is also inspired by her kids and admits the days she spends making a mess while playing with the tots will help her come up with fashion looks down the line.

“I’m inspired by my children’s art work,” Eve smiles. “It’s just amazing what they create when they sit down with the crayon or with some finger paint. I have something really fun inspired by them coming soon.”

Eva’s latest collection with New York & Company became available for sale last week (14Mar19).

Gabrielle Union inspired by love of art for latest New York & Company campaign

Actress Gabrielle Union drew on her love of art when it came to her latest line for New York & Company.

The 46 year old, who has been collaborating with the label since 2017, unveiled the spring collection she developed with the brand this week (30Jan19), and the colourful pieces are a reflection of her personal style and passions.

“With trying to push the boundaries a little bit, I wanted to do a collection that was inspired by a lot of art,” she tells People. “My husband (Dwyane Wade) and I are budding art collectors, and we are so inspired by all the different kinds of art that we see all over the world. I wanted to use that as an inspiration and jumping off point for this collection with the really bold prints and the colours and the textures. That’s really much a part of our home and our life and what inspires us.”

Union proudly reveals the looks she creates have evolved as she’s become stronger as a woman, and she has been grateful to bosses at the clothing company for being so collaborative for each venture.

“Every collection gets stronger and stronger, and I feel more and more confident to really reveal more of myself and my interests, and they roll with me,” Union says. “It’s super collaborative – it’s very much my vision and what I wear and what I’m inspired by. My world, as it ebbs and flows and changes.”

The new capsule range features laid back activewear, professional attire, and looks that are perfect for a night out, all evoking Union’s style, which she describes as “evolving, mildly edgy and comfortable”.

The former Being Mary Jane cast member, who welcomed daughter Kaavia with Wade via a surrogate in November (18), also had busy working mothers in mind when coming up with looks for the collection, and wanted to ensure that everyday women found the items accessible.

“I want to be fly, I want to be able to put on clothes by myself,” she says. “I know a lot of times we’re getting dressed by ourselves, we don’t have a team of people. I need to be able to get dressed, look fly and be comfortable and not feel like my clothes are attacking me as I’m with her (daughter), as I’m at work. I need to be able to have transitional clothing that can go from day-to-night. It needs to be able to be wiped off, like spit up that comes right off, and clothes that I can throw in the washing machine.”

Gabrielle Union fired back at an Instagram follower who suggested she “dressed her age”.

The 46-year-old actress is known for showcasing her stunning figure in sexy ensembles, and recently courted attention in a black dress and sneakers combination. While many fans approved of the look, others turned up their nose at it, with one commenting: “Can you dress your age please.”

The remark caused Gabrielle to see red, and the screen star sarcastically replied: “Oh I’d loooove to hear what you think is age appropriate. Please gimme allll the age appropriate fashion advise (sic) I didn’t know I needed in my life.”

In her original upload, new mum Gabrielle, who welcomed daughter Kaavia last month (Nov18) with husband Dwyane Wade via surrogate, got reflective about the end of 2018 and the start of a new year.

“All my unfinished work/projects from 2018 looking at me as I prepare my vision board for 2019 like… And a glimpse of my upcoming @nyandcompany eat/pray/love/travel/chill collection available next week! Sneakers by @lining.official,” she wrote.

The Being Mary Jane star has been working with retail brand New York & Company since August 2017.

She signed a multi-year contract with the company, which also has Eve Mendes on its roster, explaining at the time that she was keen to create an affordable fashion line.

“I wanted to offer on-trend fashion at affordable prices. That’s the bottom line,” she told WWD, explaining the price plan came into action after she was asked about her own outfits, only to tell others the pieces were extremely expensive.

“In that moment you say the price, you’re an a*shole. There’s got to be a way of creating fly, dope, on-trend, fashion-forward pieces for a much lower price, and that was my goal.”

Kate Hudson is set to create her own fashion line for New York & Company.

The Almost Famous actress, known for her sophisticated red carpet style, has already made moves into the fashion world with her popular activewear line, Fabletics.

However, Kate is now about to follow in the footsteps of celebrities such as Eva Mendes and Gabrielle Union as she has signed on to spearhead her own ready-to-wear collection for the New York-based womenswear retailer.

“It has always been important for me to partner with companies that share my values and creative vision. I love the quality of materials and fabrics New York & Co. uses,” she explained to WWD. “Their size ranges and affordable price points, along with their commitment to empowering women through fashion makes New York & Co. an ideal partner for me to launch my new collection with.”

As part of the deal, Kate will develop a main collection of clothes consisting of “statement casual” tops, sweaters, sportswear, denim and dresses. The items will be sold in New York & Co.’s boutiques and website, with label bosses hoping to set up a dedicated digital platform for the range too.

In addition, the blonde star will also act as a brand ambassador for the company’s Soho Jeans category.

“Our customers have been asking for a partnership with Kate for years,” Greg Scott, chief executive officer of New York & Co, commented. “We believe her star power, style and broad social influence will not only strengthen our relationships with existing customers but also ignite our customer acquisition initiatives.”

And 39-year-old Kate, who is currently expecting a baby daughter with her partner Danny Fujikawa, will be taking a hands-on approach to the entire collection.

“Kate has a million ideas for silhouettes, prints and fabrics,” Greg added. “As a business partner with us, Kate’s going to support her collection in many ways, just like Eva and Gabrielle support their lines, socially, at store events and public relations events.”

A release date for Kate’s line has not yet been announced.

Eva Mendes is happy to let her daughters pick out their own outfits.

The actress and her long-term partner Ryan Gosling are parents to three-year-old Esmeralda and 22-month-old Amada. And despite their young ages, Eva lets her girls have total control over the clothes they want to wear.

“Thank God there’s no fashion talk. But I let them wear whatever they want,” she said in an interview with E! News. “They have the right… they want to wear jammies all day or if they want to go in a costume to the market, I let them do that stuff.

“I let them win that battle. That’s the easy one. I’m trying to get them to eat broccoli. That’s the one I want to win.”

The pair will no doubt ask their famous mum for style advice one day, as Eva heads up her own fashion line The Eva Mendes Collection for brand New York & Company.

On Monday (19Mar18), the 44-year-old beauty showed off her latest designs in New York. Explaining her new offerings consist of “everyday chic, easy, versatile, everyday pieces,” Eva unveiled graphic tees, dresses and ruffled maxi skirts.

And the Hitch star admitted that being a mother of two has influenced the design process.

“I’m still new to the game. I feel like in a way (being a mum) makes me care less because it prioritises everything obviously, but at the same time it makes me care more,” she explained. “Even though I have less time to think about what I’m wearing for my day or how to put something together, I think of it more in a sense of even if I’m not with my kids, I’m always representing them. It’s always on my mind.

“I’m somebody’s mother and I need to act accordingly. There’s an intense amount of pressure that I feel but it’s good pressure.”
