Gabrielle Union was determined to “get it right” when it came to designing plus-size clothing for her new holiday collection with New York & Company.

The Bring It On actress has been collaborating with the American womenswear retailer on clothing collections since 2017, and recently launched a holiday line which features 51-pieces including metallic dresses, party-ready jumpsuits, satin sets, and leather staple pieces.

Gabrielle was intent on making the collection inclusive but didn’t just want to simply extend the size range – she was determined to create clothes that fit plus-sized consumers well.

“If it doesn’t fit right, it ain’t right. That’s what it all came down to,” she told People.com. “When you’re not doing it right, you’re ignoring 67 per cent of Americans who are plus-sized.”

She explained that she would have “failed miserably” if she didn’t make the clothes trendy and flattering for all sizes, with her adding, “I don’t want to fail at anything… I have to get it right.”

The 47-year-old made sure she hired a team that could execute plus-size designs and address the “blind spots” with her line.

“This is where you lead humbly… It’s easy to lead with your numbers and your success but a better business move is to centre where you are weakest,” the star said. “Centre your blind spots. But if you don’t have the right people on your team, you’re not going to ever know what those blind spots are.”

Her holiday collection, which ranges in price from $55 (£42) to $200 (£152) and in sizes from XS to XXL, launched earlier this week.

In addition, she has also unveiled a 13-piece collection of holiday dresses with the brand’s plus-size division, Fashion to Figure.

Eva Mendes enjoyed bonding with her mother over fashion while designing her latest collections for New York & Company.

The Hitch actress established a partnership with the clothing brand back in 2013 and has since gone to garner huge success with her retro and feminine designs, with the lines featuring chic pencil skirts and patterned dresses.

Eva has just unveiled her holiday ranges, with the collection including lots of party outfits, and in an interview with Hola! USA, she explained that her mother, also named Eva, helped her research inspiration for the designs.

“My mom helps me with a lot of women that I personally didn’t know growing up. I get a lot of inspiration from Latin women from that era, and then me and my mom will start to talk and look up to stuff, and it’s just fun. That’s a way for me and my mom to bond,” the 45-year-old said.

Eva went on to note that she had Latina icons such as Mexican actress/singer Maria Felix on her mood boards.

Elsewhere in the chat, the mother-of-two discussed how important it was for her creations to be sold in store as well as online, because she used to socialise in shops in the local mall as a youngster.

“I feel so lucky to be doing something that I can be creative with and that gives me another way of expressing myself. I grew up in the ’80s and ’90s, and as soon as I turned 12, my mom would let me go to the mall with my girlfriends because it was only a few blocks away. I have a very strict Cuban family. And all we would do is hang out in malls. So, the fact that I’m in an actual brick and mortar store means a lot to me because it is a dying breed,” she shared.

Eva Mendes decided to pop into an affordable salon for her most recent hair makeover.

The Hitch actress, who is known for her glossy brunette locks, can undoubtedly nab herself an appointment at any high-end salon she wants.

However, in an Instagram post uploaded on Monday, Eva shared that she will drop into her nearest Supercuts outlet if she needs a quick transformation.

“Ok this is a terrible angle but thought you guys would like to know that yea, I stop into @supercuts every once in a while (sic). Y que?! (and what?!),” she captioned a selfie showing her sitting in the salon chair with wet tresses while wearing a black cape with the Supercuts logo across the front.

Accordingly, a number of Eva’s 1.7 million followers praised her for sharing the candid snap.

“This makes me love you even more!!!” one fan wrote, while another commented, “Love it; keeping it real.”

While a third shared that they also liked to visit Supercuts, posting, “Same. They’re great for a trim and quick layer!” To which the star replied: “Totally! And great for a quick wash and dry!”

In addition to her acting career, Eva designs a fashion collection for U.S. retailer New York & Company and is the creative director of affordable make-up line CIRCA Beauty.

And in a recent Instagram post showing her posing on the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival back in 2005, she explained that she has always appreciated a bargain buy.

“My first time at TIFF. No stylist. Dressed myself,” the 45-year-old reflected. “This vintage dress cost me like $15. My own bag and jewellery. I wasn’t doing a ‘red carpet pose’. No, I don’t long for that time, I just liked the simplicity of it all.”

Ryan Gosling is “always in awe” of the amount of work his partner Eva Mendes puts into her clothing collection.

The Hitch star has been designing with American label New York & Company for six years, and she has now sweetly revealed that her beau is her biggest fan.

“Ryan is incredibly supportive and he’s always in awe,” Mendes told People, before adding that the Oscar-nominated actor has already picked out his favourite pieces from her recent collection.

“He’s been loving the pants I’ve been doing,” she shared. “I’ve been getting into pants more, especially soft pants like joggers.”

Gosling also has to remind Mendes of all the hard work she puts into designing each of the pieces in the Eva Mendes Collection.

“He makes me realise that (making the collection) is actually a lot of work,” the 45-year-old said. “I have so much fun doing it, that I don’t really realise.”

Mendes is constantly inspired by the women in her family and confessed that an old photograph of her mother in the 1980s directly influenced the creation of a silk blouse and matching trousers for her latest line.

“Ryan’s mom, Ryan’s sister, my mom, my sisters, my grandma are all my fashion guinea pigs,” the mother-of-two continued. “Nobody is going to be more honest than family, and our family is very honest. It’s something I really appreciate because when designing something, you need real feedback.

“And then of course when you see your family in one of your dresses, your creations, it’s beautiful, because you know they’re not doing you any favours.”

Kate Hudson’s boyfriend Danny Fujikawa chose the name for her new fashion venture.

The How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days actress is no stranger to the clothing industry, having launched activewear line Fabletics in partnership with JustFab in 2013 and worked with New York & Company as an ambassador for the clothing brand’s Soho Jeans collection.

In March, Kate also announced she was gearing up to unveil the Happy x Nature line, featuring organic and recycled fabrics, and in a new interview with The Telegraph, she credited her musician beau with dreaming up the name of the label.

‘He said, ‘That’s what people think you are, happy by nature,”‘ she recalled. “And I understand why people would associate me with that idea. The reality is that contentment is a discipline. Happiness is something that we cultivate. But I like the idea that nature can make us happy and can bring us joy. It works on lots of levels.”

The Happy x Nature collection is comprised of floral printed dresses, denim garments, boho-chic dresses, and T-shirts. Kate and the design team are endeavouring for the line to be as eco-aware as possible, right down to the fabric tags and biodegradable bags, as promoting sustainability is very important to the star.

“I love fashion and I always have, but the more you get involved in it, the more you see how irresponsible the industry has been with waste. We’ve spent so long thinking that ‘more’ means more luxurious, when we need to start thinking that simplicity is more beautiful. It’s time to start being more responsible,” the 40-year-old commented.

Elsewhere in the chat, Kate shared that she had named one item in the range – a strapless, tiered dress, after her mother – Hollywood icon Goldie Hawn.

Gabrielle Union has insisted her daughter Kaavia James has better style than she does.

The Being Mary Jane actress and her basketball player husband Dwyane Wade welcomed their firstborn via surrogate in November last year, and since then, Gabrielle has documented her tot’s day-to-day life on social media.

However, in a new interview with People, she noted that her style confidence has taken a knock since Kaavia James made her arrival.

“Dwyane and I thought we knew how to serve a look until Kaavia James came through to show us how it’s done,” Gabrielle laughed. “Mama is just trying to keep up!”

Earlier this year, the America’s Got Talent judge launched a special baby collection named after her daughter with New York & Company, and also created easy-to-wear pieces so she could twin with the nine-month-old.

Now, she’s focusing on her chic I’m Perfect capsule collection with the U.S. label, and invited women she’s inspired by – including basketball player Candace Parker, actress Dania Ramirez, model Isis King and dancer Nia Sioux – to appear in the accompanying campaign.

And the star is so excited about her previous collaborations with New York & Company, she’s keeping a few garments to show her daughter when she’s older.

“I can’t wait to show her the pieces from her own Kaavi James collection which were inspired by her,” the 46-year-old shared. “Kaavia has a very distinct personality and she’s very active, so often what I think looks great isn’t practical for her. While I love twinning with her, I cannot wait to encourage her to express her individuality.”

Gabrielle Union’s new baby fashion line is inspired by her five-month-old daughter Kaavia.

The She’s All That star will release the Kaavi James by Gabrielle Union capsule collection exclusively through New York & Company on Monday (06May19).

Speaking to WWD, the actress explained that the latest project felt like a “natural progression” and a reflection of where she is in her life right now.

“My collection is inspired by my daughter, Kaavia,” she confessed. “I wanted to create a baby collection because it was a natural progression where I am in my life now, and it has always been important to me to make sure that the collections that I design reflect a part of me and are true to what I think many women can relate to.”

The line features fleecy pants and coveralls, cotton-printed dresses, T-shirts and onesies available in sizes ranging between 0 to 24 months. There is also a sweater set that features Kaavi’s dog, Tre.

The 46-year-old went on to reflect on the similarities between the new line and her existing womenswear range, and shared that both projects were created to offer clothes that are stylish, affordable and accessible to everyone.

“My women’s wear clothing objective has always been to empower women and now I’m thinking about those exact same women with babies that are doing it all and want to dress their children in affordable, comfortable clothes,” the America’s Got Talent judge stated. “I wanted to create pieces that are all-inclusive – that both girls and boys could wear – and that were fun.”

Gabrielle Union was convinced she had missed her chance to front the fashion campaign of her dreams with New York & Company.

The 46 year old actress, who has been snagging screen gigs since she the late ’90s, thought she had reached her heyday in the style industry, admitting she was surprised when the brand bosses asked her to become an ambassador.

“The CEO of New York & Company came to me and was like, ‘We are looking for a new brand ambassador. We would love to create a Gabrielle Union line and would love for you to be the face of the 7th Avenue (collection),” she said on the latest episode of the Variety podcast Strictly Business. “I was sort of in disbelief… we’re not supposed to be getting these offers. I’m not supposed to be having this career resurgence, my value isn’t supposed to be this high.”

The Bring It On star thought that she was too old to bag an opportunity to create her own fashion line in her forties.

“They tell you that after 26, ‘Honey, hang it up,’” she explained. “Get prepared to play long suffering mothers who set up jokes and you don’t get to be a star. You’re past the ingenue stage.

“Your best days are behind you as a brand ambassador unless you can sell bleach. They don’t ever position it (age) as being in a position of power.”

Gabrielle launched her first line with New York & Company in 2017 and her latest collection dropped in January (19).

Actress Eva Mendes has flashbacks whenever she looks at a dress in her wardrobe.

Clothing means more to The Place Behind the Pines star than most, as she recalls fond memories whenever she views a treasured item in her closet.

“Whatever special occasion holds a dear place in my heart, I usually remember what I was wearing or what my mother was wearing or my sisters,” she explains to People. “When I was really little, my mom worked at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood. We would ride the bus to go to work, (and) I’d go to work with her. She would wear this red geisha gown that you had to wear at that time, and it was so beautiful. There’s so many memories tied to that.”

Eva, who is now a mother of two with longtime love Ryan Gosling, has also used the memories of her mum’s clothing to inspire her latest collection for New York & Company.

“When I think of my mom, her whole look wasn’t as uptight (in the ’70s) as maybe it was in the ’60s,” she explains. “I look at photos and there’s just more relaxed hair going on, bell bottom pants, bold patterns – and I love bold patterns. So I think I was really inspired by my mom, but also women like (actress) Gena Rowlands.”

The star is also inspired by her kids and admits the days she spends making a mess while playing with the tots will help her come up with fashion looks down the line.

“I’m inspired by my children’s art work,” Eve smiles. “It’s just amazing what they create when they sit down with the crayon or with some finger paint. I have something really fun inspired by them coming soon.”

Eva’s latest collection with New York & Company became available for sale last week (14Mar19).
