Shanina Shaik gave up boxing classes after her figure started to become “too bulky”.

In a wide-ranging chat with Melissa Wood, creator of the MWH Method, for the latest instalment of her Wellness Wednesdays series on Instagram, the Australian model discussed her everyday fitness regime.

But while Shanina was a big fan of boxing at one point, having been inspired by fellow Victoria’s Secret Angel Adriana Lima to take up the classes, she has since found that other forms of exercise work better for her body type.

“It didn’t work for my body, I got bulky. It wasn’t working and I wasn’t happy. I thought, ‘I’m killing myself in the gym…’ and it plays with your mind again,” the 29-year-old shared. “And then, I learned about Pilates and slow and intense movements. Pilates just makes me super strong, lean, and like I said, it’s not about being skinny… I just like how my body looks when I do Pilates, I see definition, I feel strong.”

Shanina went on to admit that she still has some insecurities about her figure, especially as she does a lot of lingerie and swimwear modelling, but she is doing her best to avoid looking at social media all the time, as she can find looking at idealised images of other people to be triggering.

“You pick yourself apart. It’s not even about modelling, I think women in general, we compete. And social media has a big part of it as well. We look at other women and compare and then we just always think there’s something wrong with us,” she shared.

“We look at our phones and our laptops and we see what we have to do for the day or we compare ourselves. I’m guilty of it, I’m happy for my friends and my girlfriends, whoever it may be, (but when) you’re trying to attain something in life and you see what they’re doing… then you’re like, ‘S**t, I have to scramble to get there.'”

Donatella Versace is staying positive during the government-enforced coronavirus lockdown in her native Italy.

The 64-year-old Versace boss has been taking part in at-home Pilates sessions, watching Netflix, and working on a new collection since being confined to her home in Milan back in February.

And Donatella told Vogue Australia that being on her own during the lockdown has made her realise “the importance of human contact”.

“This social distancing has made us realise how many things we took for granted every day,” she shared. “I am not talking about crazy things, but about our freedom, the possibility of going out of your home, to see our children and family, to be able to go to work.

“We have all taken these things for granted because in 2020 we could have never thought of something so extraordinary that would take them away from us. And now we are realising how fundamentally important they are.”

The fashion icon has also been overwhelmed with the sense of community that residents in her native country have shown during the unprecedented nationwide lockdown.

“If there is a silver lining to be found in this whole situation, it is that it brought out a kindness in people that I had not seen in a long time,” Donatella shared. “To me this is amazing and I hope that it won’t go away when, finally, this battle will be won.”

And while she’s enjoying time alone and creating a daily routine that revolves around designing and working out during the coronavirus pandemic, there’s one thing that she refuses to embrace during the lockdown.

“I do not go around in tracksuits,” she said of her stay-at-home wardrobe. “I love a loose, soft sweater, maybe leggings… I still keep my beauty rituals because taking care of oneself is a way of maintaining a sense of normality around you.”

Danai Gurira relies on working out and clean eating to stay ready for action roles

Black Panther star Danai Gurira’s diet and fitness regimes help her to stay ready for the exertions of her TV and movie roles.

The 41-year-old enjoys regular workouts with her personal trainer A.J. Fisher and abides by a meat-free diet – both of which really assist her when it comes to preparing for the physical aspects of the Marvel blockbuster and her TV series The Walking Dead.

“I started working with her (Fisher) when I got the role of Okoye (in Black Panther). I was about to go into pre-production, and I felt like I needed to amp up my fitness and endurance,” she told U.S. Shape magazine. “She uses methods I was already connected to, like the Alexander Technique, yoga, and Pilates, and incorporates them into a very rigorous workout that enables me to strengthen and become more holistically stronger.”

For Gurira, who rose to fame as sword-wielding Michonne on hit AMC show, her progress was easily noticeable when it came to the action stunts needed for both roles.

“For me, the coolest thing is when you feel the work pay off. You exercise a lot, and you’re doing your job, shooting long hours. And then you go to work one day, and you have to do something physical…and your body just knows how to do it,” she explained. “That happened for me in The Walking Dead and Black Panther. I thought, ‘Oh my God, I did that, and it was not difficult.’ And I knew that my body was getting smarter as I was devoting hours to its upkeep. It delivered at the moments when I needed it to.”

When it comes to her diet, Gurira gave up dairy and red meat five years ago, sticking to fish and vegetables with the occasional treat.

“Eating this way truly made me feel better, and so I’ve stuck with it. I’m not a zealot about it, though,” the actress laughed. “I really love fries, and I have them when I want to treat myself.

“Sometimes when I’m on a plane, I’ll eat a little something I don’t normally have because I’m like, ‘Eh, I’m in the air, so it doesn’t count.'”

Diane Kruger has left millions of women worldwide green with envy after showing off her washboard abs just four months after giving birth to her first child.

The Inglourious Basterds star welcomed a daughter into the world in November (18), after finding love with The Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus.

The couple are notoriously private, but Diane, 42, decided to treat her Instagram followers to a rare insight into her personal life as she shared a snap of herself on the social media site on Saturday (16Mar19).

Alongside the picture, which showed her wearing a red bikini top and black chequered trousers as she knelt in front of a mirror, Diane wrote: “Am I showing off? F**k yeah. ’cause it’s been hard work to get my abs back. I didn’t think it was possible after having a baby. And certainly not at my age. I want to thank @hannahbower2 for sharing her journey and helping me get motivated. I don’t have a trainer, but I’ve been committed to getting my body back. For myself first….but also for my (ghost emoji). The female body is AMAZING.”

Referring to her unusual workout get-up, Diane added the hashtag: “#andyesIminabikiniworkingoutcauseitshothereandwhynot.”

Speaking previously about her fitness regime in an interview with Coveteur.com, Diane explained that she’s all about being “strong” rather than skinny. And when it comes to her go to routines, the German-American screen star prefers doing stretching exercises, such as Pilates and barre, rather than high-intensity cardio.

“I want to be strong, it’s bizarre. I come from ballet, so I used to work out pretty much every day until I was 15,” she said. “About two or three years ago I had to gain weight for a movie, and it wouldn’t come off – I’ve been the same weight my entire life, and it wouldn’t come off, so I started going to the gym. I guess it’s coming from ballet, I have a very competitive thing in me, and I got really into it and I love it. Now I go four or five times a week – I do Pilates, I do Xtend Barre. I just love it, and it makes me feel strong, and I feel confident.”

Emmy Rossum finds meal preparation ‘incredibly’ relaxing

Emmy Rossum makes time to prepare her meals in advance as she finds the process to be very relaxing.

The Shameless actress has long been an advocate for living a healthy lifestyle, and is a fan of trying out different exercises classes, from high-intensity workouts to Pilates.

However, Emmy is certain what she eats makes the biggest differences to her sense of the wellbeing, and she has now shared how she plans out her dishes for the week.

“I love to cook. I find it incredibly relaxing. I’ve become a stress cooker, not a stress eater,” she told U.S. Shape magazine. “I’ll roast a bunch of carrots and make some fish and cauliflower rice, so I know what I’m putting in my body. That allows me to have a really good relationship with what I’m eating – avocados and healthy oils, good starches, and foods that are going to fuel me for the rest of my week.”

Emmy went on to explain that she tries to take a “holistic” approach to food and exercise. And even though the star has coeliac disease, meaning she cannot tolerate foods containing gluten, she still manages to include carbs in her diet.

“I like seeded bread and things that are whole-grain and gluten-free. I’ve learned how to bake in a Paleo way and eat food that sustains my blood sugar, gives me strength, makes me feel full, and tastes good,” the 32-year-old said.

In addition, Emmy spoke about her tendency to be “overprepared” and finds it hard to be vulnerable. But she is learning to ask for advice from others she trusts, such as her acting coach or husband Sam Esmail.

“I think confidence comes from working really hard at something and knowing that you can be better at it today than you were yesterday,” she smiled.

Emmy Rossum has made a point of embracing her natural curls whenever possible.

The Shameless actress always looks picture-perfect whenever she steps out onto the red carpet, often having her brunette locks styled into loose waves or chic chignons.

However, Emmy has had enough of feeling like she always has to change her hair and make-up, and wants other women to break the cycle of “compare and despair”.

“I spent a lot of years wanting to look like the pictures of the girls I saw in magazines, and now I’m trying to love my individuality,” she told Shape magazine. “I’ve been working on embracing my curly hair, for one thing. And I don’t need make-up every day. We should own our uniqueness and be the healthiest, best version of ourselves we can be.”

In addition to taking a minimalistic approach to her beauty regime, Emmy has “overhauled” her exercise plan. Rather than focusing on high-intensity workouts at the gym, the brunette beauty is joining in on more Pilates-style classes.

“My relationship with exercise has always been a very healthy and committed one, mostly because it has helped me reduce stress and anxiety. But I’ve changed my workouts. I used to do a lot of intense cardio and high-intensity interval training, but I’ve scaled some of that back. I felt as if I was in a pattern of doing those things because I thought I was supposed to, not because they gave me joy, and I wanted workouts that made me feel more in tune with my body,” the 32-year-old said.

And while Emmy abides by a healthy diet, especially as she has coeliac disease and can’t consume gluten, she recently decided to cut back on alcohol too. Instead of helping her wind down, the star finds that drinking causes her more anxiety.

“Cutting back and saying, ‘I know I’m going to feel better if I don’t have wine tonight,’ has really been good for me,” she insisted.

Brittany Snow used to be completely “obsessed” with taking spin classes.

The Pitch Perfect actress is an advocate for healthy living and keeps fit by using an elliptical machine at home as well as running and attending regular exercise sessions at the gym.

However, Brittany has now shared that not too long ago she took her passion for indoor cycling a bit far.

“I grew up running, so I’m a pretty big runner now,” she told StyleCaster. “I also love Pilates and spinning, but I got way too into spinning a couple years ago, and I had to get off that train. I got obsessed.”

For people who are getting into running, Brittany recommended setting up several playlists packed with motivating music. In particular, she is a fan of upbeat tunes and hip-hop beats.

“There’s this DJ called RL Grime, and he’s like trap,” the 32-year-old said. “It sounds ridiculous, but for some reason, that type of music is really easy to run to for me. It makes you feel like you’re in your own music video!”

During the interview, Brittany explained that she abides by a very healthy diet full of salads and salmon dishes. She has also figured out a great hack for helping her to avoid grazing on junk food.

“I know it sounds like I’m just saying this, but I love fruit, and I keep so much fruit in my refrigerator and around me at all times. For some reason, it just works really well with my body! I have this huge bowl of berries in my refrigerator, and whenever I get hungry, I just go in and fish out a couple handfuls,” she smiled.
