Kendall Jenner recites a positive mantra to herself every morning when she suffers an acne breakout.

The model became the face of skincare brand Proactiv last year, and at the time, revealed she has been battling the skin condition since her early teens.

In a new interview with Teen Vogue, she opened up about how she’s finally got her acne under control, and when she wakes up to a breakout on her face, she tries to stay positive.

“If you’re really just having a day where your skin is just not looking great for you, I do this thing every morning where I say five positive words about myself that have nothing to do with anybody else,” Kendall commented. “That always makes me feel better. Sometimes you just have to look at yourself in the mirror and talk to yourself as corny as it sounds, it really does lift you up.”

The 24-year-old also said she ignores her acne, and tries to not focus her energy on worrying about how she looks.

“I know I found myself on days where I had pretty bad flare-ups, I would kind of just try and forget about it, and almost act as if it wasn’t there. Even though, obviously, I knew it was, and everyone around me knew it was,” the model explained. “If you just put that energy into it, it ends up being not much of a thing. But when you’re self-conscious about it, then everyone starts looking.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Kendall shared how since her acne confession, she’s built up a supportive community around her, who can share the daily ups and downs of living with the skin condition.

“Everyone else that struggles, we can all connect on it, and share tips, and secrets, and tricks, and all those things,” she stated.

Kendall Jenner “found herself” when she started opening up about her problems with acne.

The model joined the Proactiv team as its brand ambassador in January and was subsequently slated on social media for over-exaggerating the hype around the partnership announcement, as she was praised by her mother Kris Jenner for being “brave” and “vulnerable”.

Despite the backlash, Kendall has been using the products for more than a year and has become more confident since sharing her battles with her problem skin.

“As corny as it might sound, my acne journey helped me find myself in the process; it made me realise my worth and pushed me to be even more confident,” she told Elle.com. “I learned so much about myself to the point where It made me glad it came back worse than ever. I needed my path to be shifted to end up where I am today.”

When her acne first began in her teens, she sought advice from her older sisters – Kourtney Kardashian, Kim Kardashian, and Khloe Kardashian – who urged her to stop touching her face.

“Don’t ever touch your face. Your hands are very dirty,” the 23-year-old recalled them telling her. “When I started breaking out, I was kind of crazy about it. I just wanted to be clean at all times. I’m also a hypochondriac so I felt like if I touched my face I’d die. I was so bad.”

Her secret weapon for battling breakouts now is the Proactiv Adapalene Gel, which she claims is a miracle worker.

“If I have a pimple and I put that on at night before I go to bed, I swear to God, I wake up in the morning and it’s gone. It pulls it all out. I put the gel on one more night, and then it’s completely gone the next day,” she gushed.

Kendall Jenner has shared her expert highlighter trick for achieve glowing skin.

With all of her fashion campaigns and red carpet events, the model constantly switches up her hair and beauty looks, with her glam squad including make-up artist Mary Phillips and hairstylist Jen Atkin. When it comes to achieving her signature dewy complexion, Kendall has now divulged that she and Mary have come up with a clever cosmetics trick.

“(Mary) is a genius at contouring and making your face look alive and fresh and glowy,” she gushed in an interview with Allure magazine. “We actually collabed on this highlighter trick. We combine a creamy highlighter with the powder highlighter on top just to make me extra highlighter-y, we’re glowing over here. I think that skin is half the battle when it comes to doing make-up, maybe this relates to me having skin issues occasionally.”

Kendall went on to explain that she has mastered her beauty and skincare regime, especially as she recently signed on as a brand ambassador for Proactiv. However, she is much more relaxed when it comes to her hair, and relies on Jen to create any complicated updos.

“It’s funny, ’cause Jen always wants me to do some wild look and I’m always like, ‘No, I want to keep it simple.’ And we have this back and forth that’s really entertaining. She wants me to look so bomb every day and I’m just like, I’m tired. I’m going to get a coffee. I want to put my hair in a ponytail. I’ve never been a hair expert, but Jen has helped. I’m still learning,” the 23-year-old smiled.

Elsewhere in the chat, Kendall also confessed that she will probably never try a cropped hairstyle, as she thinks such a cut will make her resemble her famous mother Kris Jenner.

“I’ve tried on wigs before and scared myself ’cause I really look like her!” she smiled.

Kendall Jenner has described her new shoot for Vogue Italia as a “dream come true”.

The model, who has recently landed campaigns for Stuart Weitzman and Proactiv, took to Instagram on Sunday (03Feb19) to share an image of her cover shoot for the February 2019 issue of the Italian fashion magazine, which was titled “OSSESSIONE (Obsession). The many faces of Kendall.”

In the picture, Kendall is seen posing in a sheer pastel-coloured top with a slick of light blue eyeshadow on her eyelids, and in the accompanying caption, she thanked Vogue Italia creative director Giovanni Bianco and photography duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott for working with her on the project.

“DRAMA. my @vogueitalia Feb. cover by @mertalas & @macpiggott !! one of my favourite shoots I’ve ever done! can’t wait for you guys to see the rest (sic),” she wrote. “Dream come true! OSSESSIONE.”

Inside the magazine, Kendall stars in a number of photos, including one in which she is seen staring into a mirror in a red-lit bathroom as she reads a love letter, while in another shot, the 23-year-old poses on a bed while sporting a green and purple patterned Mulberry dress.

However, the snap which is garnering the most buzz is a photo of her standing in a doorway, wearing nothing but yellow gloves, knee-high pantyhose and white platform heels.

There is also a series of moody snaps depicting the Keeping Up with the Kardashians personality sitting in lingerie in a bathtub, talking on a phone while gazing out a window and walking outside in the dead of the night.

In addition, Mert and Marcus shot in a video to go along with the magazine shoot.

“This short film sees the supermodel as the protagonist of a journey set behind the backdrop of great Italian cinema. Scene after scene, we observe Kendall transform from femme fatale to girl next door, from bride to girl with suitcase,” a spokesperson for the magazine commented of the concept.

Proactiv is standing behind their Kendall Jenner marketing campaign, despite the announcement of the model’s involvement with the brand causing widespread backlash from fans.

Kendall’s momager Kris Jenner had teased a big announcement on her Instagram page on 6 January (19), writing: “I’m so proud of my darling @KendallJenner for being so brave and vulnerable. Seeing you share your most raw story in order to make a positive impact for so many people and help foster a positive dialogue is a testament to the incredible woman you’ve become. Make sure to watch Kendall’s Twitter on Sunday night to find out what I’m talking about and be prepared to be moved.”

Many people thought Kendall was going to unveil something deeper than an endorsement deal, and slammed Kris for misleading them with her post.

“Women are coming forward every day about being victims to rape, sexual assault, abuse etc and Kendall Jenner is gonna hype up and announce her problem with acne,” one tweeted, while another labelled the family “truly disgusting”.

However, Proactiv general manager Marc Kravets addressed the controversy in a chat with Women’s Wear Daily, and insisted they remain proud of their collaboration with Kendall.

“Acne has a terrible impact on your self-esteem; it has a direct link to increases in depression and is a topic that shouldn’t be shamed,” he said. “It should be an open conversation about getting your skin healthy. Some of that backlash we saw is exactly what we need to address this, and Kendall’s the perfect person to drive that relationship.”

Kravets also revealed that Kris’ post had been signed off by the Proactiv team before it went live.

“We do have to agree on anything that’s posted,” he explained. “Everything has to be cleared so we do coordinate on all communications, together with the family.”

Kendall Jenner is hoping that her new Proactiv campaign will help “open up a dialogue around skin positivity”.

The 23-year-old model announced her collaboration with the spot-busting skincare company earlier this month (Jan19). And in a lengthy post on her Instagram page on Thursday (18Jan19), Kendall revealed her own struggle with acne, and her reasons for wanting to team up with Proactiv.

“While there are much bigger problems happening in the world, suffering from acne for me was debilitating,” she wrote. “It’s something that I’ve dealt with since I was a young teen and has caused me to feel anxious, helpless and insecure. As humans, I don’t think we share our insecurities enough because we live in a time where being ‘perfect’ is the standard.

“We curate our life online and pick the pretty moments to post. I’d like to show a younger generation that not everything is perfect.”

Kendall added that while being insecure about her spots gave her a “thick skin”, she “wouldn’t ever wish that feeling upon anyone”. And despite unsuccessfully trying a multitude of skincare products aimed at tackling acne, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star eventually discovered Proactiv.

Alongside a make-up free black and white shot of herself after a shower, Kendall concluded: “It’s been a long journey but I’m excited for where my skin is now. I didn’t think I’d see the day where I would feel confident posting a make-up free picture. My goal is to open up a dialogue around skin positivity.”

While Vanessa Hudgens was among the stars to “like” Kendall’s post, the model turned off comments on the image – perhaps for fear of nasty comments from trolls.

Kendall Jenner was nervous to share acne struggles in Proactiv campaign

Kendall Jenner found it hard to talk openly about her acne as part of her collaboration with Proactiv.

The supermodel was recently announced as the new face of the spot-busting skincare range, and she shared details of her struggles in a television advert for the brand.

And though Kendall has touched on her acne battle in the past, she was nervous about being totally honest about her experience.

“Of course (there were moments I didn’t want to share my story). I’m not going to lie, doing this isn’t the easiest thing, talking about something so personal and arguably not the most beautiful thing ever sometimes,” she explained in a video interview with E! News. “It’s not easy to talk about but I felt like I wanted to for other people, so other people felt like it was O.K. and that there is a way out of it. And just because I’ve struggled with it personally on such a deep level, I wanted people to feel like, ‘Oh but she did it so it’s O.K. and we will figure this out.'”

The 23-year-old added that her self-confidence was low as a teenager, particularly as her famous sisters Kylie Jenner, and Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney Kardashian, all had such “beautiful skin”. Luckily, she had plenty of support from her family.

“I was like, ‘What is happening to me? Why me? Like all of you are amazing and I have to struggle,'” the brunette beauty recalled. “It was hard for me when I was younger to see that, but they were so good about it and so supportive. I had them sitting crying with me when I would cry about it.”

Thanks to Proactiv, Kendall – who leads Forbes’ Highest-Paid Model of 2018 list – is now confident in her skin, which allows her to enjoy a laidback approach to make-up.

“I usually go for a really light simple foundation, something not too heavy. And then a little glow. Like a little highlighter, maybe a little bronzer and that’s it,” she added. “I’m not high maintenance at all.”

Kendall Jenner slammed by fans as ‘raw story’ is unveiled as Proactiv deal

Kendall Jenner has been slammed by fans after her “raw story” was revealed to be about her battle with acne.

On Sunday night (06Jan19), brand executives announced that Kendall is the new face of spot-busting skincare range Proactiv, with the 23-year-old model reflecting on how much acne has affected her life in a TV advert for the company.

“I remember going online and seeing all the horrible things people were saying about me,” Kendall said in the commercial. “I can honestly say the magic was Proactiv.”

While the new gig is the latest in a string of lucrative deals for Kendall, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star found herself at the centre of backlash from fans after it was announced – as her mother Kris Jenner had been hyping up the announcement for days beforehand.

Sharing a cryptic clip featuring Kendall promising to “help others” by sharing her story, Kris wrote on Twitter on Saturday: “Seeing you share your most raw story in order to make a positive impact for so many people and help foster a positive dialogue is a testament to the incredible woman you’ve become. Make sure to watch Kendall’s Twitter on Sunday night to find out what I’m talking about and be prepared to be moved.”

She added the hashtags: “#bethechange #shareyourstory #changetheconversation #proudmom #finallyasolution #authenticity #mydaughterinspiresme #getready.”

And following the announcement of the Proactiv deal, many fans took to Twitter to express their anger at the way in which Kendall’s “story” had been promoted.

“Women are coming forward every day about being victims to rape, sexual assault, abuse etc and Kendall Jenner is gonna hype up and announce her problem with acne,” one wrote, while another labelled the family “truly disgusting” and added: “Kris Jenner should be ashamed of herself for hyping this nonsense in the manner she did! This whole family just truly disgusting!

“Real life issues out there like coming out or crippling disorders that keep you from leaving the house & she comes up with those ridiculous hashtags (sic).”

Neither Kendall nor Kris have responded to the controversy as yet.
