James Corden has admitted he wears Spanx shapewear under his suits.

During a chat about the ways fashion can cause pain with Rachel Brosnahan and RuPaul Charles for The Late Late Show with James Corden on Monday night, the host revealed that he wears tight undergarments while presenting the talk show.

“I think I’m making a sacrifice wearing these Spanx. I’m not even joking,” he laughed. “My New Year’s resolution is to try and get to a point where I do one show this year not wearing Spanx. It’ll be like I’m suddenly free, Ru! I won’t know what to do! I’ll be breathing.”

RuPaul responded, “Will we know it? Will we know it when you’re not wearing…” to which Rachel smiled, “We’ll know.”

Accordingly, James insisted that he will make a public announcement when he no longer needs Spanx.

“Oh, you’ll know, babe. You’ll know, babe,” the 41-year-old quipped. “I will shout it from the rooftops! It’ll be my first-ever Instagram Story.”

The topic of tight clothing first came up during the conversation when Rachel admitted she has suffered a “corset-related injury” from the ’50s-era costumes she wears to play stand-up comedienne Miriam ‘Midge’ Maisel on hit TV show The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

“We talk so fast on the show that to get all the words out you can’t really take very many breaths,” the actress explained. “And I think I wasn’t breathing a lot and I was a bit constrained and apparently some of my ribs are sort of fused together.”

But while Rachel can’t take “super deep breaths anymore,” she insisted that her ailment is a “Champagne problem”.

Rachel Brosnahan’s ribs have “fused together” due to the corsets she has to wear for her role on hit TV show The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

The 29-year-old, who has won two Golden Globes, two Screen Actors Guild awards and an Emmy for her portrayal of groundbreaking stand-up comedienne Miriam ‘Midge’ Maisel, has revealed her restrictive costumes have resulted in a painful “injury”.

“We talk so fast on the show that to get all the words out you can’t really take very many breaths,” she explained while on The Late Late Show with James Corden. “And I think I wasn’t breathing a lot and I was a bit constrained and apparently some of my ribs are sort of fused together.”

“Oh my goodness,” fellow guest RuPaul exclaimed, and gasped as Brosnahan further shared her health woes.

And alarmingly, the costume problems are still affecting her breathing, as she added: “I can’t take super deep breaths anymore.”

But Brosnahan downplayed the health ailment, and called it a “Champagne problem.”

“It’s really fine guys,” she laughed to the audience.

The actress isn’t the first star to suffer serious side-effects from very tight costumes.

Oscar winner Emma Stone revealed her “organs shifted” after she wore corsets for 2018 period drama The Favourite, while Kim Kardashian said she was in a great deal of pain while in her custom-made Thierry Mugler gown at last year’s Met Gala.

“I have never felt pain like that in my life,” she confessed.

Anne Hathaway made her red carpet return at the 2020 Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday night.

The Oscar-winning actress, who quietly welcomed her second child with husband Adam Shulman late last year, wowed the crowd in a gold sequin gown with a plunging neckline from Versace.

Anne teamed her outfit with Alexandre Birman high heels, Messika jewellery, and a Judith Leiber purse, and took to the stage during the ceremony to present the Best Actor prize to Joaquin Phoenix for his performance in Joker. She was also nominated for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television for her role in Modern Love.

Taking to Instagram before the ceremony, Anne posted a mirror selfie in which she showed off her glittering outfit, along with the caption: “Welcome back xx.”

The post quickly racked up thousands of likes and comments, with Camila McConaughey writing, “Looooove!!!!” and Anne’s Ocean’s 8 co-star Mindy Kaling exclaiming, “ANNIE.”

Neither Anne nor Adam has confirmed the birth of their second child, a sibling for their three-year-old son Jonathan. However, the couple was spotted carrying a baby seat while out and about in Connecticut in mid-December.

Meanwhile, other stars to make a splash at the Critics’ Choice Awards included Zendaya, who turned heads in a hot pink Tom Ford ensemble and Christian Louboutin stilettos, Jennifer Lopez, who rocked a nude Georges Hobeika dress and Harry Winston bling, as well as Charlize Theron, who opted for a silver sequin Celine gown and blazer.

Shades of orange were a big trend on the night too, with Laura Dern sporting a tangerine Emilia Wickstead gown, Alison Brie choosing an orange Brandon Maxwell dress, and Rachel Brosnahan stepping out in a Carolina Herrera dress in a similar colour.

Rachel Brosnahan will happily change the colour of her hair in order to land a role.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star has brown hair in the hit Amazon Prime show, but the 29-year-old is, in fact, a natural blonde, and is always on board with undergoing an extreme dye job.

“If it’s for a job, I’ll try anything,” she told InStyle magazine. “But I actually (went back to my natural blonde) recently for a film called I’m Your Woman. My hair was dyed so dark, I didn’t know how long it would take to lift it back. Trying never to play the same character twice has given me a good excuse to change up my look a lot.”

Since rocking dark brown hair to play 1950s housewife-turned-comedian Miriam ‘Midge’ Maisel in the show, Rachel has found her blonde hair makes her unrecognisable to fans.

“But I think it’s more that I’m walking around in jeans, sneakers, and a T-shirt with little to no make-up on. I’m relatively incognito without the signature lipstick-dress-heels combo,” the star shared.

The Golden Globe-winning actress is currently serving as the celebrity spokesperson for skincare brand Cetaphil, and revealed that while she’s happy to overhaul her hair colour, her skin routine is a much simpler affair.

“I have really sensitive skin, so I can’t have a 12-step routine or change up my products every five minutes,” she explained. “And when I’m working, I wear so much make-up that my skin is constantly on the verge of being irritated.”

Rachel uses Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, Vintner’s Daughter serum, and SPF in the morning, and treats herself to Joanna Vargas facials when she’s in New York City for a “total skin reset”.

Revlon has unveiled a lipstick collection inspired by the hit TV show The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

The Amazon Prime Video series stars Rachel Brosnahan as Miriam “Midge” Maisel, a housewife living in New York City in 1958 who discovers she has a knack for stand-up comedy.

Both Midge and her mother Rose Weissman, as played by Marin Hinkle, are meticulous about their beauty routines, which include coiffed hair and a seemingly endless array of lip colours complementing their tailored ensembles, and now Revlon bosses have launched a limited-edition lipstick collection to celebrate the programme.

“Midge’s own bold choices are a hallmark of the show and reflect her trailblazing spirit as she finds her own path to independence in the late 1950s and early 1960s,” a spokesperson for the beauty giant commented. “Revlon’s iconic Fire & Ice campaign debuted around the same time, marking the first time women were encouraged to wear make-up for themselves as a mode of self-expression.”

The Marvelous Super Lustrous Collection is comprised of two sets of high-impact, super moisturising Super Lustrous Lipstick. Take The Stage Reds features three bold shades – Fire & Ice, Certainly Red, and Cherries in the Snow, the latter of which Midge recommended to a shopper while browsing the Revlon counter in episode five of season one.

While the Stand-Up Nudes range includes three flattering nude hues – Pink Truffle, Blushing Mauve, and Rum Raisin.

“Revlon’s The Marvelous Super Lustrous Collection captures Midge Maisel’s courage and confidence, and embodies the spirit of today’s Revlon Live Boldly campaign,” they added.

Lipsticks in The Marvelous Super Lustrous Collection are priced at $19.99 (£16) and are available to buy exclusively from Amazon.com while supplies last.

The third season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is slated for release later this year.

Rachel Brosnahan’s skincare routine has been influenced by her most famous character – Midge from Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

In the ’50s-set series, Rachel plays Miriam “Midge” Maisel, a Jewish housewife who embarks on a career in comedy.

Revealing in a chat with People how much Midge has encroached on her everyday life, Rachel shared: “(Midge) gets great pleasure out of her beauty routine. It’s something that she really enjoys, and that’s something I’ve borrowed from Midge. It feels good to clean my face, to take my make-up off, or to put make-up on when I’m going out.”

During filming of the show, which will be back for a third season later this year, Rachel received a real education in what it was like to be a woman in 1950s America.

“I once opened the medicine cabinet on set in Midge’s bathroom, and you never see it on the show, but there are about a hundred different products in there. Midge has a very extensive beauty routine,” she laughed. “It was really hard to be a lady in the 1950s! There were so many steps.”

As for her own beauty routine, the 28-year-old prefers a simple approach.

She recently landed her first brand ambassadorship with Cetaphil and is adamant the gentle skincare company is a perfect fit for her.

“When I was in high school, I had the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion side-by-side on my bathroom counter. Since then, I’ve loved using them and added the Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 15 into my routine too,” she said. “My approach (to skincare) is listening to what I need in the moment and finding small moments to take a minute to take a breath.”

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan has become the first celebrity brand ambassador for skincare favourite Cetaphil.

Announcing the news on her Instagram page, the 28-year-old praised her new partner for “saving” her skin.

“Can finally let the cat out of the bag! I’m super stoked to be partnering with @CetaphilUS – a brand that has saved my super sensitive skin for the better part of the last 10 years,” Rachel excitedly told her followers. “My mom got me hooked on Cetaphil in high school as a simple way to keep my skin clean & calm in the face of sports seasons, raging hormones and a steady strawberry milkshake diet. It’s been a go-to ever since. More to come!”

The partnership also marks the actress’ first official brand ambassadorship.

Rachel, who recently showed off her glowing complexion at the 2019 Tony Awards, has also expanded on her mother Carol’s advice when it came to her teenage skin in an interview.

“My mom introduced me to Cetaphil in high school because I was wrestling and playing lacrosse – I have really sensitive skin and it was constantly irritated from sweat and hormones and a terrible diet,” she said, reports WWD. “She introduced me to the cleanser and told me to keep my routine super simple. It made my skin clean and calm and it’s been a go-to ever since.

“My (skincare) philosophy has stayed the same (over the last 10 years) – keep it simple and don’t use too many products.”

As for how Rachel will help promote Cetaphil’s range, the brand’s marketing director, Michael Sabbia, explained the focus will be on social media and “leveraging her followers to tell her story through the lens of the brand”.

Executives at Kate Spade New York have fulfilled a pledge to mental health organisations following the death of the designer.

Spade, who founded her fashion and accessories brand in 1993, committed suicide in June 2018. She was aged 55.

In light of her death, leaders at her namesake brand, owned by Coach’s Tapestry, Inc. since 2017, chose to honour Spade’s memory by donating $1 million to various charitable causes, and a year later, it has been confirmed that the target had been reached.

“The Jed Foundation, Fountain House and the Didi Hirsch Foundation are the newest grantees of our $1 million pledge to mental health organisations in honour of Kate Spade, our company founder. From June 5th through 12th, 2019, we’ll also match public donations made to The Jed foundation, up to $100,000. To make your donation, visit jedfoundation.org/katespade. Thank you from all of us for your generosity and support,” a brand spokesperson wrote on Instagram.

The Jed Foundation is a New York-based non-profit which seeks to protect the emotional health of teenagers and young adults, while Fountain House is dedicated to the recovery of men and women with mental illness, and Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services has provided free mental health, substance use disorder and suicide prevention services since 1942.

In addition, Anna Bakst, brand president and chief executive officer of Kate Spade New York, added that the company plans to continue with the initiative.

“Kate Spade brought so much beauty and joy into the world, and now more than ever, we are committed to carrying on her legacy,” she said in a statement. “Through our continued support of mental wellness organisations, we hope to encourage more conversation, education, and research around mental health to help those suffering.”

On the first anniversary of Spade’s death, a number of her friends and family members honoured her memory.

Her niece, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel actress Rachel Brosnahan took to Instagram to write, “Missing Katy B today,” while her brother-in-law David Spade posted a snap of the star at an event in February 2006 along with a red heart emoji.

Rachel Brosnahan becomes new face of late aunt’s Frances Valentine brand

Actress Rachel Brosnahan has signed on as the face of tragic fashion icon Kate Spade’s Frances Valentine brand to honour her late aunt’s memory.

Creatives at the label, named after Spade’s daughter, have unveiled the new Love, Katy line in tribute to the groundbreaking designer, and her company co-founder and best friend, Elyce Arons, thought The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star would be the perfect fit for the campaign.

“When Elyce asked it just seemed like the most natural fit,” Rachel told U.S. breakfast show Today of her new role.

“I think when you lose someone you love very, very much, you spend a lot of time trying to think about how to keep their spirit alive, how they can live on through you, and that’s through memories, but also, in Katy’s case, there is so much of her left behind.”

She continued, “This was an opportunity for us to celebrate her life and her legacy and how much she meant, not only to us, but to so many other people and the impact that she’s had on the fashion industry. It was a really special experience and the collection is just beautiful.”

The Love, Katy range, which features colourful bags and floral patterns, is described as “vintage modern” and is aimed at keeping Spade’s “designs and creativity and spirit alive,” according to Arons.

Many of the pieces also reminded Rachel of her late grandmother, as it was her sense of style which provided inspiration for Spade, born Katherine Brosnahan, from the very start of her career.

“I know Katy always talked about being inspired by my grandmother, June, her mother, ripping things straight out of her closet and I feel like that spirit still lives on as well,” the Golden Globe winner shared. “So it’s really lovely to see those special pieces of our family reflected through this collection and the ones before.”

Spade committed suicide last June (18), aged 55. Her death sent shockwaves through the fashion world, and Rachel was among the first of her loved ones to pay tribute online, calling Kate “insanely talented, funny as heck and one of the most generous people I have ever known”.

Reflecting on the loss seven months later, Rachel admits she and her relatives were “so touched” to hear how Spade had impacted so many people’s lives with her work in the wake of the “unthinkable tragedy”.

“It was something that really meant a lot to us and still does,” she added.

And Rachel urges anyone suffering from mental illness to seek help before it’s too late: “I know that it can be so difficult to reach up out of the darkness, but you are absolutely never, ever alone,” she said. “And please do reach out. And everyone else, reach out to the people that you love and remind them that you love them.”

Spade, who left her namesake label in 2006, co-founded Frances Valentine with Arons, husband Andy Spade, and another business partner, Paola Venturi, in 2016.

Dior has opted for a circus theme for its spring/summer 2019 couture collection.

Creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri held her latest show for the French luxury label within the grounds of Musee Rodin as part of Paris Couture Week on Monday (21Jan19), with celebrities including Karlie Kloss, Olivia Palermo, Felicity Jones, Kiki Layne, and Rachel Brosnahan all perched on the front row.

“The circus is a magical place. The imagination of many artists has been stimulated by the fascination for a world that is both wondrous and raw, poetic and indispensable,” wrote Chiuri in her show notes. “The circus is presented as a place of inclusion.”

Drawing inspiration from a number of sources, including the Victorian-era fairgrounds, the Cirque d’Hiver, or winter circus – which label founder Christian Dior had been known to visit, and the work of artist Cindy Sherman, the show kicked off with acrobats from the all-female Mimbre company performing on the catwalk, and continuing to make formations throughout the presentation.

To begin, a model showcased a navy blue velvet dress which was matched with a skullcap and silver glitter ankle boots covered with star motifs.

A red suit with military influence was up second, while a number of ensembles featuring ruffled collars followed.

One model sported a pearl-white satin gown with matching tuxedo jacket, while other standout pieces included a sequinned gown embroidered with celestial motifs, and a nude ballgown with harlequin print on the skirt.

A black shirt dress with white silk lapels was particularly chic, as was a light gold gown with woven bodice and pleated skirt which will undoubtedly be sought-after by Hollywood A-listers for the upcoming 2019 Academy Awards.

To conclude, Chiuri offered up a parade of sharply tailored suits and lavish gowns, with the final number of the event comprised of a gold dress with matching cape.

Paris Couture Week continues on Tuesday with shows from Chanel and Alexandre Vauthier.
