Hollywood hardman Dwayne Johnson was recently forced to cut short filming for the Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sequel after suffering from fluid in his lungs.

The Rampage star, also known as The Rock, has been busy shooting scenes for the action/adventure follow-up, but for the first time in his career, he was unable to push through his illness to stay on schedule, and had to end his work day early to get some much-needed rest.

“Got my a** kicked yesterday when I woke up with a fever,” he wrote in a post on Instagram on Friday (22Mar19). “Saw my Dr who observed I had fluid in my lungs. Fun.

“Went to work, but for the first time in my entire career – wrestling around the world thru pain and hardcore injuries – shooting movies/touring around the world – yesterday was the first time ever I tapped out with only 3hrs left in my shooting day. So sick I couldn’t finish the job. Drive home miserable (sic).”

Dwayne shared the news alongside a photo of his “magic potion” – antibiotics and vitamin supplements, but then revealed he was already on the mend, and was returning to the Jumanji set to continue shooting.

“The kid is back,” he declared. “Going to work. Ready to finish what I f**king started and finishing this week on a strong uptick with my hard working crew.”

Taking friendly aim at his friend and co-star Kevin Hart, he concluded, “I’m also gonna do my best to get @kevinhart4real sick today. Wish me luck.”

Followers were quick to offer up their well wishes to the recovering star, and Dwayne later returned to the social media site to share his gratitude.

“Happy Friday,” he posted. “Thank you so much for the (love)”.

The Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sequel also features the return of Karen Gillan, Jack Black, and Nick Jonas, alongside new castmembers Danny DeVito, Danny Glover, and Awkwafina.

Naomie Harris turns down lengthy lie-ins so she can mediate and exercise in the morning.

The actress has a very hectic work schedule and is currently promoting her latest film, Rampage, alongside lead actor Dwayne Johnson.

Yet as busy she may be, she’ll still turn down any opportunity of a morning lie-in.

“So I feel that waking up before 6am is important…because it’s good to wake up with the sun. I feel like the longer I stay in bed, the more sleepy I am throughout the day,” she shared in an interview with Glamour U.K. “Also it means that I carve out time for myself to do my routines.”

As well as making time for exercise and meditation, the Spectre star also completes her “morning pages” at the start of every day.

“I just kind of write whatever comes into my head, kind of my mini diary,” she explained. “And that’s a real great way of – things that I’m uncomfortable with or I need to dissect in my mind, I get them on the page and it really helps me.”

When it comes to beauty, skincare is a priority for the 41-year-old, who admits she could never part ways with her cleanser.

“So many of my friends go to sleep with their make-up on… and I’m like ‘oh my gosh’ – it’s really bad,” Naomie squirmed. “I have to have cleanser, I have to cleanse my face.”

The Oscar nominee also named The Organic Pharmacy and Environ as two of her favourite beauty brands.

Naomie Harris felt ‘completely lost’ at start of Rampage shoot

Naomie Harris felt “completely lost” when she first started filming Rampage because she didn’t have much experience with green screen.

In the monster action flick, the Moonlight actress’ geneticist character Dr. Kate Caldwell must team up with Dwayne Johnson’s primatologist to stop three different super-sized animals from destroying Chicago after they become infected with a dangerous pathogen.

A lot of the film was shot using green screen, and Naomie admitted to OK! magazine that she was out of her comfort zone initially because she hasn’t worked with it much before.

“I really had to lean on Dwayne because he was amazing. This is his world, it’s not mine at all, and I felt completely lost in the beginning,” she said. “The way to get through it is just to pretend you’re a kid and just to play and have fun. That’s what I did.”

The 41-year-old has experience in the action genre thanks to her role as Eve Moneypenny in the James Bond franchise, and she initially thought Rampage would be similar when she signed on, but she was wrong.

“I actually went into it thinking it was going to be the same kind of deal,” she explained. “Actually it was completely different because Bond doesn’t really have green screen. We are out in the real world doing those stunts, and largely we’re doing them for real.”

One highlight of shooting on green screen was that she didn’t know what the finished product would look like and could enjoy Rampage like other audience members.

“For us, it’s a bit of a mystery to be on something where you’re looking at a green screen and then to see it come to life is so much fun. We get to be the audience as well as the actor in it. As an actor, you’re just really grateful that something comes out and it looks okay!” she joked.

Rampage, which also stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Malin Akerman, is in cinemas now.

Naomie Harris: ‘Writers don’t prioritise fleshed-out female characters’

Naomie Harris often reads scripts where female characters are less fleshed out than the males because screenwriters think they aren’t as important.

The British actress has had her pick of scripts since landing an Oscar nomination for Moonlight in 2017, but she tells PorterEdit magazine that, even though great strides are being made in the industry in addressing diversity, screenwriters still don’t prioritise creating well-rounded female parts.

“(Scriptwriters) always say, ‘It’s a bit thin on the page, but we’re going to flesh it out’, but I’ve learned through experience that it doesn’t happen,” she sighed. “You’re low down on the list of priorities. Everything else – the action sequences, the main storyline, or whatever – that’s all going to be worked out before they get to you.”

However, the Skyfall actress says it is possible to make suggestions to help the screenwriters rewrite the part or make it more realistic, as they might just be struggling to write from the female perspective.

“Maybe it’s because so few scripts are written by women, so maybe the men feel they don’t understand this female role,” she explained. “Maybe that’s why, when you say, ‘I think the character would do or say this’ they are receptive, I’ve found, because they’re hungry for that sort of information – they just don’t have it themselves.”

The 41-year-old is currently entertaining cinema audiences alongside Dwayne Johnson in monster movie Rampage, and she explains she took it on because it was such a departure from the drug-addicted mother she became known for in Moonlight.

“After Moonlight, I did get a lot of offers, but they were all very much along the lines of (character) Paula. So, ‘Do you want to play the haggard mother’ or ‘do you want to play the crack addict’. And I read (the Rampage script) and was like, ‘This is nothing like Paula! Completely the opposite!'” she smiled.

Dwayne Johnson is back at the top of the North American box office with his new monster movie Rampage.

The Brad Peyton action film had a stellar weekend at cinemas to race past John Krasinski and Emily Blunt’s acclaimed horror movie A Quiet Place with a $34.5 million (GBP24.2 million) opening haul.

But Krasinski’s new film had an impressive second weekend, coming in second with $32.6M (GBP22.9 million), taking its 10 day tally to just under $100 million (GBP70 million).

At one point, the two movies were neck and neck as they competed for the box office crown.

Rampage also performed internationally, picking up $114 million (GBP80 million) outside North America – a figure that helps cement former wrestler Johnson’s place as one of the world’s biggest movie stars.

“Dwayne Johnson is a closer. His fans follow him on such an aggressive way on social media and he inspires and excites them to get them to see his movies,” said Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution Jeff Goldstein, “He’s a marketing machine. He’s his own brand and this was a co-ordinated effort throughout our whole company.”

Johnson stunned fans at the AMC Burbank theatre on Saturday (14Apr18) by showing up in person to thank them for choosing to see his film.

Meanwhile, another horror film, Truth or Dare – starring Lucy Hale and Tyler Posey, debuted in third place in North America, while Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One and comedy Blockers complete the new top five.

Marvel blockbuster Black Panther, Isle of Dogs, I Can Only Imagine, Tyler Perry’s Acrimony, and Chappaquiddick round out this week’s top 10.

Naomie Harris was much more challenged by the action in Rampage than the Bond movies.

The British actress played Eve Moneypenny in the James Bond films Skyfall and Spectre, both of which starred Daniel Craig as the suave spy. While Naomie had plenty of action-packed scenes in the movies, she has now explained that filming her latest flick Rampage was much tougher on her.

“I thought Bond was challenging, but it was nothing compared to Rampage,” she told SFX magazine. “I was strung up to the ceiling on a plane that was tilted at 90 degrees, being flown across to the other side of the plane while trying to catch a lever and switch it on, with wind machines blowing on my face. It was really intense.”

Naomie went on to joke that drama school hadn’t prepared her for such intense sequences, and she was in constant “terror” for the majority of the shoot. In the film, she plays Dr. Kate Caldwell, a discredited genetic engineer who teams up with primatologist Davis Okoye, as portrayed by Dwayne Johnson, in order to protect an albino gorilla named George and stop an invasion of monsters.

Though the role contrasted with her performances in films such as Collateral Beauty and Moonlight, she was attracted to her character’s strength and intellect.

“She wants to use science in a way that’s going to help the planet but unfortunately her work gets taken over by an evil brother and sister duo who use her advances to make weaponised DNA. At the start of the movie she is trying to clear her name, and she teams up with Davis Okoye to try and secure an antidote to the weaponised DNA,” the 41-year-old explained.

Rampage features an ensemble cast which includes Malin Akerman, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Joe Manganiello, though Naomie was particularly dazzled by Dwayne, aka ‘The Rock’, on set.

“He’s amazing. I’ve never met anybody with such charisma, he has this megawatt smile and when you’re on the receiving end of it, it’s just mindblowing,” she laughed.

Dwayne Johnson spent time studying gorillas for his new movie Rampage.

The Fate of the Furious star plays a primatologist trying to save a silverback gorilla, named George, and explains he wanted the relationship between the animal and himself to seem authentic, so he read up on ape behaviour.

“For a movie like this it had to be rooted with an anchor and the anchor is the relationship between me and my best friend George…,” he told U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America on Wednesday (11Apr18). “I was able to spend time with primatologists and gorillas, specifically a silverback named Taz, down at the Atlanta Zoo.

“I spent time there studying their emotions and behaviours. Spent time with the Dian Fossey Foundation, who’s the preeminent worldwide leader of gorilla conservation. It was an amazing process, this movie, and I’m really happy that we anchored it in that relationship.”

Johnson is known for his action movies, but he reveals this film was his most physically demanding role to date because of all the destruction that takes place.

“This one was really physically demanding because there’s so much calamity and so much destruction…,” he said. “(There) are three gigantic monsters and they’re coming after you, so you’re constantly just trying to survive and of course I’m trying to save my best friend, so it was a very physically demanding role.”

Rampage, based on the 1980s arcade game, also stars Bond girl Naomie Harris, Joe Manganiello, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It hits cinemas in the U.S. on Friday (13Apr18).

Executives at Warner Bros. have opted not to renew a co-financing agreement with Brett Ratner amid his ongoing sexual misconduct scandal.

Six women, including actresses Olivia Munn and Natasha Henstridge, have come forward to accuse the filmmaker of misconduct and abuse and the shamed Rush Hour director is currently embroiled in a court battle with Melanie Kohler, a woman who alleges he raped her.

Ratner’s RatPac-Dune Entertainment production company sealed a $450 million (£317 million) deal with Warner Bros. back in 2013 to finance up to 75 films, with the agreement due to expire this spring (18), and a studio representative has confirmed to The Los Angeles Times newspaper the contract will not be renewed.

The new Dwayne Johnson-led monster movie Rampage, which reaches U.S. theatres on Thursday (12Apr18), marks the final movie to be released under the original five-year deal.

Warner Bros. bosses have been cutting ties with Ratner since Munn, Henstridge and other accusers came forward with claims they were mistreated by him in a Los Angeles Times expose back in November (17). Within hours after the article was published, film studio heads distanced themselves from the filmmaker by declining to review a production agreement with another one of Ratner’s companies, RatPac Entertainment.

As Brett faces this huge loss of business with Warner Bros., he is also contending with alleged rape victim Kohler in court, after suing her for defamation.

He recently lost his bid to depose her after she claimed he molested her over a decade ago in a Facebook post last year (Oct17).

Ratner has vehemently denied all allegations of sexual misconduct.

Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan was left in pain after his Rampage co-star Dwayne Johnson pounced on him during filming.

The Walking Dead star plays a government agent who feuds with Johnson in the movie and he reveals he ruined one particular scene because he let out an unbelievably high-pitched sound after Johnson toppled him.

“(Dwayne’s) got a lot of energy so you got to bring it, but kind of going nose-to-nose with him makes you realise, ‘I’m a small human being’,” he told U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America on Monday (09Apr18). “I’m as tall as he is, about, but my God, he’s built like a huge freezer and he feels like it.”

“We did a stunt at one point in the movie (and) if you see it you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about; he landed on top of me and I was supposed to be unconscious and it made a sound come out of my body that I didn’t know I could possibly make,” he jokingly added. “Like real high, the wind (came out of me) and the ribs cracking and then he started giggling. I’m like, ‘(Great), we’re going to have to do it again’.”

Morgan has previously raved about working with Johnson, who plays a primatologist trying to save his beloved silverback gorilla, George, and other mutated animals from destroying cities across the U.S.

“Because he is able to make fun of himself a little bit, I think that it makes us love him,” he said. “I mean, he’s obviously huge and a big muscly dude, but I think… it helps so much if the action star can be relatable.

“It’s kind of who he is in real life,” he continued. “No one does what he does… in this world of action, which has kind of propelled him to the top of this world.”

Rampage, based on the 1980s arcade game, and also starring Naomie Harris and Joe Manganiello, is slated for release on 13 April.

Naomie Harris stole the spotlight in a glittering gown at the Rampage premiere on Wednesday night (04Apr18).

The British actress led a parade of celebrities at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles for the debut of the new sci-fi movie, which is loosely based on the video game series of the same name and follows a primatologist who must team-up with George, a giant albino gorilla, in order to stop an invasion of monsters.

While Naomie plays genetic engineer Dr. Kate Caldwell in the flick, she ditched the lab coat for the screening and instead sported an eye-catching glittering gold number with a scooped neckline which she paired with gold high heel sandals and a matching clutch. The 41-year-old topped off the ensemble with an emerald green-coloured ring and earrings.

Naomie’s co-star Malin Akerman, who plays the woman responsible for the infection and mutation of George, also got dressed up for the night and turned heads in a black dress with tiered skirt and dramatic ruffle on the right shoulder. The Swedish star complemented her look with strappy black high heels and carried a boxy silver purse.

Lead actor Dwayne Johnson looked handsome in a grey suit, white shirt and brown shoes, choosing to accessorise his outfit with a pair of cool sunglasses, while Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays a government agent in the movie, donned a navy suit and patterned black shirt.

The actor was joined at the screening by his actress wife Hilarie Burton, who gave birth to their second child in February, and looked gorgeous at the event in a pale pink silk dress with ruffle detail on the skirt.

Joe Manganiello, who portrays private military group leader Burke in Rampage, wore a grey suit and black suit, while his wife Sofia Vergara made a splash in a fitted dress featuring black and white print.

Other celebrities to turn out for the screening included Danny Trejo, Luis Guzman and Dwayne’s San Andreas co-star Alexandra Daddario.
