Lizzo made a sartorial statement in a woodgrain-inspired number at the 2019 BET Awards on Sunday night.

The Juice hitmaker posed up a storm as she made her entrance at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, with her quirky outfit from House of Holland turning heads.

Lizzo, who also performed her hit song Truth Hurts during the ceremony, accessorised her look with matching hat and handpainted shoes, as well as a custom manicure by Eri Ishizu.

Taking to Instagram, the 31-year-old posted several snaps of her ensemble, and added the captions, “No I’m not a branch at all look baby I’m the whole damn tree! CUSTOM WOODGRAIN LEWK FOR THE @BETAWARDS,” and “Ooop! Did I give you a woody?”

A number of Lizzo’s celebrity pals were quick to praise her outfit, with actress Anna Faris writing, “Yeah!!” and Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness commenting, “Slay us to death queen dayum (sic),” alongside a string of heart eye emojis.

Other stars to pull out all of the stops for the 2019 BET Awards included Rihanna, who sported a full black leather outfit when presenting Mary J. Blige with the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Ciara, who wore a tangerine Jean Paul Gaultier dress with dramatic sleeves. The Goodies star completed her look with Stuart Weitzman shoes and jewellery from Anita Ko.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta personality Eva Marcille showed off her growing baby bump in a flowing pink gown from Michael Costello, Karrueche Tran wowed in a bright yellow suit as she walked the blue carpet with American football player Victor Cruz, and Black-ish star Yara Shahidi opted for a striking Prabal Gurung look complete with silver sequin skirt.

La La Anthony rocked a gold minidress, Migos trio Quavo, Takeoff, and Offset looked dapper in pastel suits with harnesses, and Blac Chyna went for a bombshell vibe in a red dress and platinum blonde wig, while host Regina Hall looked stunning in a black dress with voluminous sleeves.

Awkwafina, Regina Hall and Samira Wiley have been added to the all-star cast of Tate Taylor’s new flick, Breaking News In Yuba County.

It was recently announced that Mila Kunis and Allison Janney had signed up for the crime-drama, which is due to kick off production in Mississippi next month.

Laura Dern was also attached to the project at one point, but has since had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict.

According to editors at Deadline, Oscar winner Janney will portray a pencil pusher who catches her husband in bed with another woman, which causes him to die of a heart attack.

After burying his body, she begins to take advantage of the growing celebrity status that comes from having a missing husband. However, she soon finds herself in over her head, dodging cops and criminals, all while trying to hide the truth, especially from her half-sister, played by Kunis, a local news anchor who’s desperate for a story, and Hall’s determined local police detective.

Hollywood newcomer Amanda Idoko has penned the script, while Taylor’s Wyolah Films is producing along with Jake Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker’s Nine Stories and Franklin Leonard’s The Black List.

Juliette Lewis, Ellen Barkin and Kunis’ Bad Moms co-star Wanda Sykes are also said to be in advanced negotiations to join the impressive cast.

The Help director Taylor is also gearing up for the release of summer horror Ma, which reunites him with Octavia Spencer, followed by action drama Eve, which features Jessica Chastain, another of his The Help stars.

Regina Hall has been unveiled as the face of a new summer collection for Old Navy.

The Hate U Give actress is the face of the brand’s latest line, which features a range of affordable pieces perfect for attending brunch or lounging at the beach.

The 48 year old appears in a series of ads showcasing the comfortable looks, including the Gingham Midi Dress, Printed High-Neck Lantern-Sleeve Blouse and the High-Rise Frayed-Hem Distressed Denim skirt.

The Gingham outfit is Hall’s favourite item in the capsule, telling People magazine, “It’s my new print of choice.”

When it comes to what she looks forward to shopping for most, the star admits heels are her biggest weakness but always enjoys relaxing in sweatpants and T-shirts.

“I splurge a lot on heels,” Hall says. “I feel like it gives me options. I can take the same jeans I always wear and pop on a shoe.”

Hall wowed on the red carpet earlier this month (May19) while attending the Met Gala in an ensemble by designer Dapper Dan.

“I really wanted to make sure we incorporated that idea, but with Dapper Dan… He’s been such a legacy,” she tells E! News. “This is his first Met and I wanted to make sure he stayed authentic to what he does, what he’s done for black culture and what he’s done for hip-hop. I wanted to make sure we did a little bit of that.”

As for the secret to staying confident on the red carpet, she tells Page Six it’s all about putting together the right look, like “a beautiful, easy dress that has a beautiful hang, clean hair and great makeup.”

Regina Hall rehearsed one of her serious scenes for The Hate U Give in a public restaurant.

The actress made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night (08Oct18) to promote the new drama, in which she portrays Lisa Carter, the mother of Amandla Stenberg’s lead character Starr Carter – a young woman who is drawn to activism after she witnesses the police shooting of a childhood friend.

During the chat, Regina explained that she and her co-star Russell Hornsby, who plays Starr’s father Maverick Carter, spent a lot of time working on their complicated backstory together.

“Russell and I actually went and rehearsed before we started, to make sure we had the chemistry and we would improv,” she recalled. “We actually did the fight that broke us up (in the story). It wasn’t good because we did it in a restaurant in Hollywood. A lady came over and was like, ‘Can I help you?’ and he was like, ‘NAHH.’ And I said, ‘And there you go again embarrassing the s**t out of us.’ He storms out! The poor little waitress, God bless her.”

But during the chat, Regina confessed that making The Hate U Give wasn’t the only time she has used unconventional acting methods.

She shared that she was very nervous before her audition for the role of a stripper named Candy in 1999 movie The Best Man and relied on quite a lot of liquid courage before showing the producers her limited dance skills.

“I went to the audition and I had a bottle of (alcoholic drink) Alize and I’ll tell you what’s so amazing, when your adrenaline is high, you don’t feel the alcohol. I was still sober and I’m not a big drinker,” the 47-year-old laughed. “I go in the room and the (other) girls have routines. So, I went in the room, they put the music on and I put a chair up… and the producer said, ‘Stop the music, can you do anything else?’ And I said, ‘Yes,’ and picked up my stuff and left.”

While Regina was certain she didn’t get the part, it turned out that the producers were very impressed by her acting in prior auditions and gave her the role – which turned out to be her first feature.

Kian Lawley has been fired from upcoming movie The Hate U Give after a video surfaced showing him making offensive remarks.

The actor and YouTube star had been cast in the role of Chris, the boyfriend of main character Starr Carter (Amandla Stenberg), in the adaptation of Angie Thomas’ young adult novel of the same name, which tells of a woman drawn to activism after she witnesses the police shooting of her unarmed friend.

However, executives at Twentieth Century Fox Film announced on Monday (05Feb18) that they have decided to cut Lawley from the film after a bleeped 12-second video showing him apparently using the N-word and making racist comments was posted on YouTube on 26 January. The video is believed to be a few years old.

“Due to the controversy surrounding his past comments and behaviour, Kian Lawley will no longer appear in The Hate U Give,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “The studio plans to recast the role of Chris and reshoot scenes as needed.”

At present, the film does not have a release date, and a replacement actor for Lawley has not yet been announced. In response to his firing, Lawley has issued an apology for his actions.

“Words have power and can do damage. I own mine and I am sorry. I respect Fox’s decision to recast this role for The Hate U Give as it is an important story, and it would not be appropriate for me to be involved considering the actions of my past,” he said. “I understand the impact and I have grown and learned since then. From now on I plan to use my voice for positive change.”

In addition to Stenberg, the cast also features Regina Hall, Anthony Mackie, Issa Rae, Lamar Johnson and Common.

Lawley is best known for his online videos, but has attempted to transition to Hollywood in recent years, appearing in TV show H8TERS and movie Before I Fall as the character of Rob Cokran.
