Liev Schreiber is joining Will Smith in the cast of upcoming sports drama King Richard.

According to editors at The Hollywood Reporter, the actor will play tennis coach Paul Cohen in the movie, a biopic about Venus and Serena Williams’ father Richard Williams, as portrayed by Will.

Paul, who had worked with the likes of John McEnroe and Pete Sampras, was brought onboard by Richard to give his daughters lessons.

Liev joins a cast that also includes child stars Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton as the young Venus and Serena, and Aunjanue Ellis as their mother, Oracene Price. Jon Bernthal is attached to portray another tennis coach, Rick Macci.

The film, which is slated for a cinema release in November, is being directed by Monsters and Men’s Reinaldo Marcus Green from a script by Zach Baylin.

The narrative is set to show how the uncompromising tennis dad trained his two daughters to play the game on the cracked courts in Compton, Los Angeles, and coached them all the way to Grand Slam wins and all-time greatness.

Producers include Tim White, Trevor White, and James Lassiter, with Allan Mandelbaum, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Caleeb Pinkett serving as executive producers.

Liev most recently wrapped on hit TV series Ray Donovan, which concluded earlier this year after seven seasons. However, he recently hinted to fans that they haven’t seen the last of his character.

He will next begin promoting The French Dispatch, a comedy-drama film directed by Wes Anderson and also starring Timothee Chalamet, Saoirse Ronan, Lea Seydoux, Elisabeth Moss, and Edward Norton.

The Punisher actor will portray the famed tennis coach, who made a deal with Richard Williams to train his daughters Venus and Serena and hone their talent while they were young children, according to Deadline.

The coach, who is now 65 years old, trained five number other one players, including Andy Roddick, Jennifer Capriati, and Maria Sharapova, throughout his sports career.

Bernthal shared the casting news on Instagram with the caption, “Big. Love. Y’all. Very grateful.”

He joins a cast that already includes Will Smith as Richard Williams, the main focus of the film, which documents how he guided his daughters from the tennis courts of Compton, California to become world number ones.

Will Smith is attached to play Venus and Serena Williams’ father in a new biopic.

The movie star has teamed up with Tim and Travor White to push King Richard through Hollywood with the help of his agents at CAA, after being wowed by Zach Baylin’s script, according to Deadline.

Smith is slated to play Richard Williams, who despite having no tennis background, oversaw his daughters’ tennis careers from overgrown courts in Compton, California to the top of the international game two decades ago after Serena won the US Open in 1999 and Venus beat Lindsay Davenport to win the 2000 Wimbledon title.

Smith will also executive produce the project via his Overbrook Entertainment company, alongside Allan Mandelbaum and Caleeb Pinkett.

Will will next be seen as the genie in Disney’s new Aladdin movie, while reports suggest he has stepped away from the Suicide Squad sequel.

He is currently shooting the latest Bad Boys film with Martin Lawrence, and according to Deadline, King Richard could be his next film project.

Meanwhile, the Ali star has turned his bucket list endeavours into a new online series for Facebook.

Will has been checking daring challenges off his list of lifetime goals for the last few months, famously celebrating his 50th birthday in September (18) by bungee jumping from a helicopter over the Grand Canyon.

The rapper and actor had a camera crew document his adventures for fans and now he’s taken all of the footage and edited it down for a new six-episode series called, Will Smith’s Bucket List.

The first installment, documenting a skydive with his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, was released on social media streaming platform Facebook Watch last week (27Feb19), and Will took to Instagram to share the news with fans.

“Okay… For the last few months, I’ve been shootin’ a show called @WillSmithsBucketList,” he wrote, alongside the show trailer. I turned 50 and I decided I was gonna do EVERYTHING I’ve ever wanted to do – Swim with Sharks, do Stand-Up and make @JadaPinkettSmith jump out of an Airplane (Which is what happens in the first episode)… Check it out!”
