Lili Reinhart watched countless YouTube tutorials in order to master special effects make-up.

The Riverdale actress stunned fans in 2014 when she posted several different gory make-up techniques that showcased her unusual talent on social media, and in a new interview, revealed that it took her a long time to perfect.

“I moved across the country when I was 16 and ended up finishing my high school online, so… after I was done with my schoolwork and just trying to fill my time, I started watching YouTube tutorials,” Lili told Elite Daily.

The 23-year-old started out watching videos online from experts including Michelle Phan and NikkieTutorials, and eventually ended up in the world of special effects make-up, which sparked her fascination immediately.

“I’d save my money to buy some special effects make-up off of Amazon,” she admitted.

Lili has since debuted her talents with her impressive costume make-up at Halloween, and has transformed herself into a skeleton, a zombie with rotting facial wounds, and even managed to make her friend’s finger look like it had been severed.

And the Hustlers star offered her fans a live demonstration of her skills on YouTube when she gave her Riverdale co-star Madelaine Petsch a realistically bloody shark bite.

But she insisted that her beauty journey started by simply experimenting at her local drugstore, like other friends her age.

“I remember my first make-up bag full of my first drugstore make-up,” Lili shared. “I used one of those dirty, white sponges that everyone always had in their make-up bag and would use to re-apply their foundation over and over again.”

KJ Apa hired a stylist after his Riverdale co-star Cole Sprouse urged him to “sort out” his fashion.

The New Zealand-born actor, who has earned himself a legion of fans by playing Archie Andrews in the teen drama, is known for being in great physical shape, something which he regularly shows off in topless scenes and photos.

But in an interview with Men’s Health magazine, KJ admitted that while he cares about his body, he doesn’t put much thought into his clothing.

“I’m a very instinctual shopper, and very impulsive,” he said. “I’ll go out, I’ll see something, I don’t even try it on. I just buy it.”

However, KJ, who likes to experiment with bright colours, bold patterns, oversized, comfortable shapes, was forced to reassess his choices two years ago when he was confronted by Cole, 27, who told him, “Bro, you need a stylist.”

“I was showing up to red carpets in jeans and button-down T-shirts. And I realised, ‘Yeah, I’ve got to get this sorted out,'” the 22-year-old reflected.

KJ enlisted the help of stylist Warren Alfie Baker, who has worked with the likes of Miles Teller and Lucas Hedges, and he now feels more confident in dressing formally.

“Confidence is everything. Otherwise, everyone can see you look uncomfortable, and it’s not a good look,” he insisted.

Elsewhere in the interview, KJ revealed he was still trying to find a balance between working out constantly and giving himself a break.

“It’s important to give yourself balance, which is still something I’m trying to learn. Like, to work out hard for three weeks, take a week to chill. Otherwise, you burn yourself out, and I’ve experienced that,” The Last Summer star shared. “But, I mean, look at Dwayne Johnson. He gets it done.”

Lili Reinhart is disappointed by one of her tattoos because it’s “crooked”.

The Riverdale star has been inked four times, including an arrow and a rose on her forearms and a cross on her finger, but it’s her fourth tattoo that she’s most upset with.

Before she was famous, Reinhart headed to a popular Los Angeles-based artist to get an Earth symbol on her ribcage but it ended up looking like a pizza slice.

“It’s an earth sign – an upside-down triangle with a little line in it,” Reinhart explained. “People think it’s pizza. It’s crooked. I went to a really popular L.A. tattoo artist.

“Then when I was famous, he reached out to me and was like, ‘I would love to tattoo you.’ I was like, ‘B***h, you already did and you made it crooked.’ Well, I didn’t say the crooked part.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the 23-year-old opened up about her battle with cystic acne, which started when she was in elementary school.

“When I was in seventh grade, I started getting cystic acne on my forehead. I still get breakouts, but it’s much more under control now,” she shared, before adding that her biggest beauty extravagance is getting non-invasive laser treatments and facials from Renee Rouleau to help fight breakouts.

The Hustlers star also revealed that she gives her family skincare products as gifts, and is a big fan of the make-up styles on the hit HBO show Euphoria.

“I want glittery stars on my face. Euphoria did an amazing job at segueing crazy makeup into everyday looks, which is so wonderful,” Reinhart gushed.

Lili Reinhart ‘intimidated’ by physiques of her Riverdale co-stars

Lili Reinhart is “intimidated” when she compares her body to that of her Riverdale castmates.

The actress, who stars alongside Camila Mendes, KJ Apa, and her real-life boyfriend Cole Sprouse in the TV show, made the confession as she responded to a fan who asked why everyone on the teen drama has “perfectly chiselled bodies”, with the viewer continuing: “Don’t you think TV shows like this aimed at teenagers are contributing to unrealistic body expectations body image issues?”

Lili replied by stating that she doesn’t have a perfect body and sometimes feels insecure when she has to act in her underwear.

“Actually, not everyone on this show is perfectly chiselled. And even I feel intimidated by the physique of my surrounding castmates sometimes when I have to do bra/underwear scenes,” she tweeted. “I’ve felt very insecure due to the expectation that people have for women on TV, what they should look like.

“But I have come to terms with my body and that I’m not the kind of person you would see walking on a runway during fashion week. I have bigger boobs, I have cellulite on my thighs/butt, and my stomach sticks out rather than curves in.”

The Hustlers star went on to admit that she struggles with her imperfections every day and is insecure about the weight she has gained in the last two months due to her battle with depression.

However, she was determined to “be strong and show confidence in myself, looking as I do” when she had to film a recent underwear scene because feels obligated to set an example for others.

“I want other young women to see my body on TV and feel comfort in the fact that I’m not a size 0. And I’m not a perfect hourglass shape,” the 23-year-old wrote. “This industry struggles with accurate representation of female and male bodies.”

Shannon Purser is starring in the campaign for Christian Siriano’s new fragrance.

The actress, perhaps best known for her roles in TV shows Stranger Things and Riverdale, has been tapped by the fashion designer to front the imagery for his feminine perfume, Midnight Silhouette.

Snapped by Shane LaVancher in Paris, Shannon poses in a dramatic black ballgown for the photoshoot, and accordingly, she had a blast working on the project.

“Maybe one of the most surreal things that’s ever happened to me. Christian has been an inspiration to me for a while now,” she wrote alongside one of the campaign photos on her Instagram page. “He made the first dress I ever wore on a red carpet and it meant the world, especially considering how rare it is to find a designer willing to dress you when you’re plus size. It’s amazing to work with talented people, but even better to work with *good* talented people who are actively making positive changes in the world. All this to say, thank you so much for this opportunity @csiriano.”

Midnight Silhouette has top notes of bitter orange and pomelo, heart notes of freesia and immortelle, and a base of musk, praline, and vetiver.

And Shannon insisted she is a big fan of the Midnight Silhouette scent.

“I actually wear this fragrance all the time and it smells lovely, so give it a try if you’re looking for a new signature scent,” the 22-year-old added.

Christian posted a string of images from the photoshoot on his Instagram page too, writing in the caption: “Celebrating this beauty and her silhouette for our new fragrance!”

And a number of his celebrity followers were quick to praise the imagery, with Christina Hendricks commenting, “Takes my breath away,” and Lili Reinhart praising, “The Lord has blessed us on this day.”

Lili Reinhart has clapped back at social media users who criticised her appearance at the Gotham Awards on Monday.

The Riverdale actress hit the red carpet at Cipriani Wall Street in New York wearing a little black Miu Miu dress with crystal-studded straps and strappy heels. However, it was her eyes that caught the attention of social media users, with many pointing out that they appeared red and bloodshot. Some also even questioned if she was under the influence of drugs.

However, the 23-year-old, who attended the event to support her movie Hustlers, later took to her Instagram Stories to address the criticism and assure her followers that she was simply tired.

“A few people think I was stoned last night. Truthfully, I was not. I had slept for only five hours and I usually need at least nine hours to be a functioning human,” she wrote, before sarcastically adding, “But, thanks for pointing out my bloodshot eyes, nice to know you guys can tell when I’m dead inside” with a love heart emoji.

The star has been open about her battle with body dysmorphia, a mental health condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance. She is also an advocate for body positivity and regularly speaks out against beauty standards and airbrushing on social media.

Lili recently told Glamour U.K. magazine that she wished she lived in a world where photo-editing didn’t exist.

“I would love to see a world where people who are already thin don’t need to Photoshop their waist even more, to make young girls, like me, when I was 14 or 16 years old go, ‘I thought I was skinny, but maybe I’m not. Maybe I need to have an eating disorder to make my body look like that.’ Life is not a FaceTune app,” the actress stated.

Lili Reinhart has slammed an airbrushing app for giving people unrealistic expectations about their bodies.

The Riverdale actress regularly speaks out about the detrimental effect Photoshop and digital altering can have on young people and she continued her campaign about airbrushing apps on Sunday.

Lili explained to her followers on her Instagram Stories that she was searching for an app to help her resize her photos for Instagram and she came across BodyTune. She then shared a video advertisement for the app which demonstrated how it can be used on an existing photo to thin down arms and legs, bring in stomachs, and make bottoms and waists appear curvier.

“This is not okay. This is why people develop eating disorders. This is why social media has become hazardous to our health. This is why people have unrealistic expectations of their bodies,” she began. “This is how unrealistic standards of human bodies have been created – to the point where people alter their bodies surgically to achieve unattainable results.”

The Hustlers star then urged her followers against using such apps as they would be helping perpetuate the problem.

“I implore you: do not use these kinds of apps. If you Photoshop your body, you are adding to this problem,” the 23-year-old wrote. “We are better than this. Looking ‘skinnier’ in a photo on Instagram is not worth the detrimental psychological effects that these Photoshopping apps have given our generation… Our bodies should not conform to ‘one size fits all.'”

Lili, who has been open about her battle with body dysmorphia, a mental health condition that causes people to obsess about their appearance, talked about the “disgusting problem” with airbrushing apps during a recent interview with Glamour U.K. magazine.

“I would love to see a world where people who are already thin don’t need to Photoshop their waist even more, to make young girls, like me, when I was 14 or 16 years old go, ‘I thought I was skinny, but maybe I’m not. Maybe I need to have an eating disorder to make my body look like that,'” she said.

Lili Reinhart won’t tolerate the idea that cellulite is “unnatural or a symbol of being fat”.

In the past, the 23-year-old has been open about her battle with anxiety, depression, and body dysmorphia, a mental health condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance, and outspoken about the impact of airbrushing on social media.

She believes young people would be less hung up on their body insecurities if they weren’t conditioned into thinking certain physical attributes were undesirable or bad, such as cellulite, or the dimpled skin generally seen on the bottoms and thighs of adult women.

“This idea of cellulite… It really p**ses me off. It’s this weird thing where people think that it’s unnatural or a symbol of being fat,” she told Glamour U.K. magazine. “It’s so f**ked up because cellulite is just a part of the human body. It’s just genetic, it’s like having freckles on your face. It’s something that is there, you’re born with it, and it’s become this disgusting thing. We’re told: ‘We need to laser this away, no one wants to see that.’ There’s nothing more beautiful than when I see stretch marks, or cellulite, and people’s real skin.”

The Riverdale actress wishes she lived in a world where airbrushing didn’t exist so young people wouldn’t try to meet impossible beauty standards.

“I would love to see a world where people who are already thin don’t need to Photoshop their waist even more, to make young girls, like me, when I was 14 or 16 years old go, ‘I thought I was skinny, but maybe I’m not. Maybe I need to have an eating disorder to make my body look like that.’ Life is not a FaceTune app,” the star stated.

Lili Reinhart’s hair has become “damaged as hell” as a result of her Riverdale character’s various looks.

The 23-year-old spends a lot of time being preened and prepped for her role as Betty Cooper in the popular teen drama series, and in a new interview for Allure, opened up about the impact it’s having on her locks.

“My hair is damaged as hell from being on my show and just from heat styling in general,” she said. “So, I try to take really good care of my hair.”

As Betty, Lili often has her tresses swept back into a sleek ponytail. But the actress insisted that perfecting the hairstyle isn’t as easy as it looks.

“This ponytail causes me stress,” the star explained. “It takes a long time, longer than you’d think, and it’s really annoying and very frustrating. It’s just the fact that it’s really hard to get it perfect… That’s my biggest struggle. Being on camera, you can’t have flyaways, so I’m looking at my head probably 70 times a day to make sure that my hair is in place. I hate that it’s very high maintenance.”

Lili’s natural hair colour is a much darker blonde than the platinum shade her hair is on Riverdale, and she is desperate to keep her locks from falling out due to over-styling.

“I kind of promised myself if I were offered a role where they said I need to be a redhead (or) I need to be a brunette that I would have to wear a wig because my hair has been through so much,” she added.

Lili Reinhart has been appointed as the spokesperson for cosmetics brand CoverGirl.

The Riverdale actress, who has previously worked with brands including H&M, Bongo, Dermalogica and The Mighty Company, announced she was the latest CoverGirl on Instagram on Wednesday morning.

“Meet your newest @COVERGIRL (lipstick emoji) I am pinching myself at the opportunity to represent such an iconic make-up brand and be the face of their newest line, coming very soon,” she teased. “As a COVERGIRL, my goal is to advocate for confidence & self-acceptance in a world where so many young men and women feel compelled to change themselves. I can’t wait to start this journey. #EasyBreezyBeautiful.”

Representatives at the American company shared the same picture, showing the Hustlers star wearing minimal make-up, and added, “SURPRISE! The secret is out: @lilireinhart is our newest #COVERGIRL! We’re SO excited to welcome such an authentic, inspirational, talented actress & author to the Easy Breezy family.”

The 23-year-old is the first CoverGirl to be appointed since 2017, when a diverse range of stars were introduced as a part of a re-branding effort. Of the group, Insecure actress Issa Rae, model Maye Musk and TV personality Ayesha Curry have remained with the brand.

Erika Woods, vice president of marketing for the CoverGirl brand at Coty, told WWD that Reinhart was chosen thanks to her popularity with the Generation Z market.

“She represents someone who we haven’t explored in this (new cast of CoverGirls) – she has a strong following amongst Gen Z and she’s inspirational,” she said. “She’s honest and raw and a great role model for young girls.”

The actress will front a new product launching in early 2020.
