Romee Strijd and her partner Laurens van Leeuwen are expecting a baby girl.

The Victoria’s Secret Angel announced she was pregnant with her first child on Instagram in May, and over the weekend, the couple hosted an outdoor gender reveal party to find out the sex of their baby.

She posted a video of their loved ones yelling a countdown in Dutch off-camera as her and Laurens stand in a green space, with Laurens holding a metal canister. At the end of the countdown, he pressed a button and pink smoke came billowing out of the canister, announcing they are having a little girl. The friends can be heard squealing with excitement while Romee giggles at their reaction and exchanges a kiss with her beau.

“We can’t wait to meet our little girl,” she wrote in the caption, followed by a love heart emoji.

The 24-year-old’s model friends celebrated the news in the comments, with Karlie Kloss writing “Can’t wait to meet her” with loved-up eye emojis, Devon Windsor simply writing “Amazing” with love heart emojis, and Shanina Shaik adding: “Omg!!!! Little girl!!!!! Congratulations babe!!!!!”

Sara Sampaio, Miranda Kerr, Josephine Skriver, Nadine Leopold, Elsa Hosk, and Chiara Ferragni also commented on the post.

When she announced her pregnancy news in May, the Dutch model revealed that she thought she wouldn’t be able to have a baby after she was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). “Two years ago, I got diagnosed with PCOS after not getting my period for 7 years,” she admitted. “I was devastated because being a mom and starting a family with @laurensvleeuwen is my biggest dream. I was so scared that I would never be able to because I got told it was harder to get babies in a natural way.”

Dutch model Romee Strijd is expecting her first child.

The Victoria’s Secret Angel announced her pregnancy news on Instagram on Thursday by sharing a photo of her partner Laurens van Leeuwen cradling her baby bump as they posed in their garden.

In the lengthy caption, the 24-year-old revealed that she thought she wouldn’t be able to have a baby after she was diagnosed with Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) two years ago.

“WE’RE HAVING A BABY,” she wrote. “Two years ago, I got diagnosed with PCOS after not getting my period for 7 years. I was devastated because being a mom and starting a family with @laurensvleeuwen is my biggest dream. I was so scared that I would never be able to because I got told it was harder to get babies in a natural way.”

After conducting research into the condition, she concluded that her body was “under constant stress” from travelling so much, having daily workouts, and eating “super clean”.

“I think I pressured my body to (sic) much, and honestly everybody is so different but I think my weight was not good for my body to function properly and couldn’t handle the constant traveling,” she explained to her followers.

Romee studied natural healing remedies for PCOS and decided to do less high-intensity exercise, take breaks when necessary, and stop restricting her food intake.

“I also tried some natural supplements, acupuncture and we got a place back in the Netherlands as well, so we could spend more time with Family (since I’m such a family person),” she concluded. “I’m so happy and grateful to say that I got my period back last November AND that WE’RE SOON A FAMILY OF THREE & to the women trying to conceive, believe in yourself and be nice for yourself and your body and don’t let those thoughts get to you to much (sic).”

Helena Christensen is fronting an inclusive new campaign for Victoria’s Secret.

The U.S. lingerie label has taken a hit in recent years, with critics calling out executives for failing to promote diversity and a range of body types in their advertising and annual fashion shows.

However, bosses are now appearing to take the backlash seriously, and on Thursday, unveiled the spring 2020 marketing imagery for The Body by Victoria collection.

The main photo features veteran Victoria’s Secret Angel Christensen, 51, posing alongside Barbara Palvin, Romee Strijd, Valentina Sampaio, and Solange van Doorn in black and beige underwear sets.

Palvin and van Doorn are both known for embracing their natural curves, while Brazilian star Sampaio made history last August when she became the first-ever transgender model to work for Victoria’s Secret.

In addition, experienced photographer Christensen helmed the rest of the photoshoot, with the other snaps including the likes of curvy model Candice Huffine, Joan Smalls, Daniela Pestova, Jasmine Tookes, and Lais Ribeiro.

Marketing bosses at Victoria’s Secret appeared to want to take a low-key approach to the relaunch, with the campaign promoted on the company’s website but not yet on Instagram.

In addition, the brand has been affected by the coronavirus crisis sweeping the world, with executives announcing on Thursday that they will be temporarily closing the online store and boutiques across North America to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.

“Responding safely and responsibly is one way we continue to show our appreciation for those who make Victoria’s Secret possible, especially during difficult times,” a spokesperson wrote on Instagram. “While our associates are home with their loved ones, we’ll support them with full pay. We’re also working on addition ways to provide support through our home communities for those who may need an outstretched hand.”

Romee Strijd no longer feels pressure to look ‘perfect’

Romee Strijd has decided to place less importance on the way she looks in 2020.

The Victoria’s Secret Angel wrote a lengthy post on Instagram on Monday in which she told her followers her mindset has shifted when it comes to her looks and she’s come to realise she’s got more to offer than just her appearance.

In the post, Romee candidly revealed how she used to be so focused on her looks that she would put pressure on herself to look perfect at all times and would feel guilty when she didn’t.

“I’ve been thinking about how keeping up with the perfect image affected me, when I went to a birthday, to a party, to work, to an event, I always felt the pressure to look perfect, because I’m Romee, the model, so people are gonna judge about the fact how I look in real life,” she wrote. “When I let go of food or the way I look.. I immediately feel guilt.. because most of the times I have to work any time soon, so it stresses me out.. cause I gotta look good.

“This year, I realised we are not just looks.. we shouldn’t identify ourselves with our looks… it’s absolutely not about that.. We’re way more than that, all of us, it’s about the personality you have, they way you treat other people, the love and the laughs you share.. thats gonna fullfill you (sic).”

The 24-year-old praised the fashion industry for embracing diversity and “realness” and explained that she would continue to take care of her body and health “but not for the way I look but the way I feel”.

Her post was praised by her fellow models, such as Lais Ribeiro, who wrote, “I’m proud of you mama!” and Nina Agdal, who commented, “Amen sister” with the praying hands emoji.

Romee Strijd cut down on travelling and work over the last year to focus on her family.

The Dutch model, 24, shared her thoughts as she reflected on 2019 in a candid Instagram post, and explained that she and husband Laurens van Leeuwen had made a choice to spend more time together at their home in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

“Since it’s the last day of the year I wanted to share a little thought, 2019 has been a different year for me than the years before. This year I’ve tried to not focus to much on achievements, and just work related things, for me I really tried to find my balance,” Romee wrote, adding that she found it “so much harder” to get that work-life balance right.

“We travelled way less, enjoyed our home in Amsterdam and tried to focus on things that make us happy, like family and friends but also doing my work since we love that aswell but just in a different ratio,” the Victoria’s Secret Angel continued.

She then urged her followers to stop focusing on results, and realise “life is not about work, the way you look, or what you achieve.”

Romee, who has walked for the likes of Alexander McQueen, Balmain, Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton and Prada, then thanked her fans for supporting her over the last 12 months.

“Enjoy life, have a laugh but also accept down moments because also those moments are part of life and just do what’s good for you,” she concluded. “Cheers to 2020!!!! and i’m so grateful to share our journey with you guys, here and on Youtube! LOTS OF LOVE.”

Romee Strijd has taken to social media to shut down pregnancy speculation.

The Dutch model, perhaps best known for her work with Victoria’s Secret, uploaded a snap of herself in a grey sweater and matching coat on Wednesday and added in the caption: “I’m at the place in my life where running errands counts as ‘Going Out.'”

However, the camera angle made Romee’s stomach area appear slightly rounded – causing several fans to ask if she’s expecting.

“Is she pregnant?” one user wrote in the comments section, while another queried: “Beauty! But pregnant??”

But Romee, who has been in a relationship with Laurens van Leeuwen for many years, quickly cleared up the rumours.

To one follower she replied, “Why?” and to another explained: “lol (laugh out loud), it does look like it! But it’s the sweater or the pasta I had for lunch (laughing emoji).”

Elsewhere in the comments section, the blonde beauty answered other fan’s questions and shared that her next post on YouTube will be about “How to wave your hair with a flat iron,” and whether or not she misses the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

She responded: “Yes I do!!”

Romee first began working with the lingerie label in 2014 and was named as an Angel the following year. Yet, back in November, bosses at the brand confirmed the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show had been cancelled for 2019. Of late, the company has been hit by the growth of contemporary underwear labels like Third Love, Aerie, and Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty, while company leaders have also been accused of failing to embrace diversity and inclusivity in its marketing imagery and shows.

Victoria’s Secret has officially relaunched swimwear in the wake of customer demand.

Back in August 2016, executives at the U.S. lingerie giant decided to discontinue making one-pieces and bikinis, after experiencing low sales, though in light of a major restructure occurring at the company, Stuart B. Burgdoerfer, chief financial officer and executive vice president of L Brands, the owner of Victoria’s Secret, announced in November (18) that the label would offer swimwear again.

On Monday (18Mar19), brand reps unveiled the 2019 collection, however, they confirmed that it will be only available to buy online.

“Due to overwhelming demand, the brand has curated a limited assortment of the popular swimwear on its e-commerce platform for spring/summer featuring the best brands, silhouettes and trends of the season,” they said in a statement.

The swimwear line offers a variety of high-waist bikinis, Brazilian-cut legs, and asymmetric shapes, plus the classic designs Victoria’s Secret was previously known for. An accompanying campaign features models such as Sara Sampaio, Jasmine Tookes, Romee Strijd, Grace Elizabeth, Lorena Rae, Aiden Curtiss, Megan Williams, and Maya Stepper posing in the brand-new swimwear designs on a beach.

One snap depicts Sampaio wearing a strappy black bikini, while Tookes is seen in a sporty black bikini top which is matched with leopard print bottoms.

In addition to Victoria’s Secret swimwear, a select assortment of items from top swimwear brands including Seafolly, Banana Moon, Lascana and La Blanca will be available to purchase on the Victoria’s Secret website, as will an all-new assortment of sunglasses.

“The collection features fashion designs and a range of classic and modern styles,” a spokesperson noted, adding that the eyewear will be available at select boutiques and online.

Romee Strijd has been tapped to wear a special Swarovski look at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

The Dutch model first worked for the U.S. lingerie giant in 2014 and reached the prestigious Angel status the following year. Romee, 23, will be appearing in the 2018 show in New York City on Thursday (08Nov18) too, with executives at crystal company Swarovski now announcing that she will walk the runway in a bespoke design during the Celestial Angel Section of the spectacle.

“If you’ve ever been lucky enough to see a shooting star in the night sky, then you get an idea of how spectacular this year’s Swarovski Look for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will be,” a representative said in a statement. “Inspired by the heavens, it transforms Angel Romee Strijd into a sparkling burst of starlight, using 125,000 crystals. The effect is simply out of this world.”

Romee’s ensemble features a jewel-encrusted seven-pointed star in the place of wings, with the costume weighing a hefty 20 pounds (nine kilograms). There are 70,000 crystals attached to her bodysuit, which took a team 150 hours to hand-bead on.

“Here, the idea was that it should resemble a star-strewn night sky, so the bodice features a diagonal neck-to-hip constellation of crystals in a stardust effect, the shapes of the crystals echoing celestial bodies such as glittering stars and a luminescent moon,” they added.

Among the 2018 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show outfits that will be worn by models including Adriana Lima, Elsa Hosk, Candice Swanepoel, Jasmine Tookes, Lais Ribeiro, Gigi Hadid, Taylor Hill, and Kendall Jenner, there will be 45 that are covered in a total of 850,000 sparkling crystals.

“I feel like a superhero when I walk in this outfit!” added Romee.

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, featuring musical guests such as Rita Ora, The Chainsmokers and Halsey, will air in the U.S. on the ABC network on 2 December.

Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner will walk in the 2018 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

The American models both skipped last year’s lingerie spectacle held in Shanghai, as Gigi reportedly had her visa denied by local officials and Kendall had committed to modelling for rival brand La Perla instead.

In addition, Victoria’s Secret veteran Adriana Lima will appear, as will Behati Prinsloo, who is back after a three-year hiatus following the birth of her second daughter Gio Grace in February, and Candice Swanepoel, who welcomed her second child, a son named Ariel, in June.

While the models will showcase a limited-edition line created in collaboration with London-based designer Mary Katrantzou.

“Only one show brings together the biggest names in music and the top models around the globe for an exciting hour of entertainment and style,” added Rob Mills, senior vice president, alternative series, late night & specials, ABC. “We couldn’t be happier to work with this iconic brand and bring The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show to ABC.”
