Erin O’Connor and Helena Bonham Carter have partnered with cashmere label Brora on an initiative supporting a children’s charity.
To mark the centenary of the Save the Children organisation, Brora founder and creative director Victoria Stapleton has invited the pair, as well as British model Laura Bailey, to each design a capsule collection. Inspired by the knitwear pieces they love, each of the women worked closely with Victoria and the Brora design team to bring their ideas to life, with each collection consisting of six items. Ten per cent of sales will go to Save the Children.
“I have lived in Brora for years, so jumped at the opportunity to put together my dream cashmere, thrilled by the idea that each purchase will help a distressed child somewhere in the world. It’s a double gift,” said Helena, while Erin added: “As a long-term devotee of both Brora and Save the Children, it was a pleasure to be able to design a cashmere collection inspired by my own Celtic heritage and love of colour while supporting a worthwhile cause.”
Highlights of the range include a long scarf designed by Helena which bears the words, “Phenomenal Woman,” and is inspired by the suffragette movement.
While Erin has created an Aran jumper using traditional knitting techniques, and Laura has selected a super soft Bardot-style knit.
“When the embryo of this concept took shape, I never dreamt the collections of Helena, Laura and Erin would reflect their personalities and aesthetic quite so fabulously well,” shared Victoria. “These lovely and deeply talented women have put so much heart and soul into their designs for Brora and Save the Children and in turn, our mill in the Scottish Borders have created unique pieces that will be loved for life. I’m extremely proud to launch this very special collection and that the sales will help the lives of children who so need our support.”
Items are priced from $108 – $635 (£85 – £495).

Tommy Hilfiger is to be honoured by bosses of nonprofit organisation Save the Children.
The American designer will receive the organisation’s Humanitarian Award in recognition for his efforts in helping to improve youth education, environment and health with his charitable causes across the U.S.
“By continuing to advocate for the rights of children globally, Tommy Hilfiger has not only become a notable humanitarian figure, but he has built a brand based on corporate responsibility. We’re looking forward to honouring him for those efforts in New York in September,” Carolyn Miles, chief executive officer of Save the Children, said in a statement.
Back in 1995, the 68-year-old founded The Tommy Hilfiger Corporate Foundation which helps underprivileged youths through educational and cultural programs. And since 1999, he has provided opportunities for boys aged 13 to 15 from low-income families in New York to attend his outdoor summer camp, Camp Tommy, in Fishkill, upstate New York.
Hilfiger is also actively involved in a number of charities and causes including Autism Speaks, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and Race to Erase MS (Multiple Sclerosis).
Hilfiger will join Camila Cabello, who was previously announced as the recipient of Save the Children’s Voice Award, at a star-studded gala in New York on 12 September which will be co-hosted by news anchors Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie.
Other honourees include Walt Disney Company boss Bob Iger, who will receive the organisation’s Centennial Award at the Los Angeles event on 2 October. That ceremony will be hosted by Jennifer Garner and feature a musical performance from James Taylor.

Alexa Chung and Poppy Delevingne have created a line of T-shirts raising funds for Save the Children.
The pals worked together on the project to mark the charity’s 100th anniversary, and also the launch of Save the Children’s Stop the War on Children campaign.
Available in three colourways – navy, white and yellow – the tee, designed by Chung and modelled by Delevingne, features an illustration of a crescent moon face alongside the words The Future is Now.
“To me (the moon) symbolises children’s dreams, hopes and the promise of a new day,” Chung explained, reports Vogue.co.uk. “Sadly, not all children have the chance to enjoy such innocent childhoods as millions are battling through conflicts started by adults. But they should, and we need to fight for their futures and help them fulfil their potential by ensuring all children are off limits in war.”
Thirty per cent of the profits will go directly to Save the Children. The adults’ T-shirt has a price tag of £25 ($32), while the children’s version comes in at £15 ($19).
For the accompanying images, Delevingne roped in shoe designer Tabitha Simmons to style her, had Gucci Westman on make-up duty and enlisted Cass Bird to art direct and photograph the campaign.
“Having visited many Save The Children programmes over the past four years, I’ve met with some of the most inspiring and amazing children who, despite adversity and conflict, have not only survived to tell their stories but are now thriving and full of hope for a better future,” Delevingne said about her ambassadorial role. “It’s because of these children and their daily fight that Alexa and I wanted to create something that would help make a change and encourage people to do something good.”

Britain’s annual Christmas Jumper Day falls on 14 December, with the public encouraged to don a festive top in order to raise money for the children’s charity.
It marks the seventh time the event has taken place, and keeping up the tradition of making it a showbiz affair, a host of A-listers have been tapped to promote the initiative.
Models David Gandy, Daisy Lowe and Erin O’Connor, Olympian Sir Mo Farah, actors Annabelle Wallis, Eddie Marsan and Eiza Gonzalez, and rapper and Game of Thrones star Raleigh Ritchie are also a part of this year’s campaign.
Shot by Greg Williams, the stars pose in a variety of Christmas jumpers designed by Selfish Mother, which are available to buy now. The brand also created the 2017 offerings.
This year’s designs come in black or red versions of the sweaters, and feature either the word Peace, Hope, Love or Joy written on the front in block gold lettering. All come with a £55 ($72) price tag, with 50 per cent of proceeds donated to help children in the world’s toughest countries. Sharing Greg’s photography on his own Instagram page, The Hobbit star Luke wrote: “When I visited slum communities in India, I was truly shocked by the extreme levels of poverty that children are forced to live in. It was there that I witnessed first-hand the difference @SaveChildrenUK is making to children’s lives by helping give them better access to education. Please join me in supporting @SaveChildrenUK by wearing the @SelfishMother LOVE sweatshirt on Friday 14th December #ChristmasJumperDay.”
Peaky Blinders actress Annabelle also shared a message.
“You can make the world better with a sweater this Christmas! Get the PEACE or the JOY sweatshirt (or both! Like me!) or one of the other @SelfishMother sweaters from the @TheFMLYstore,” she wrote.

Since becoming a world-famous model, Londoner Adwoa has dedicated herself to helping young women find their voice.
She set up Gurls Talk, an online community for young women to open up, in 2015, and is often vocal about the dark side of social media.
Calling Instagram “a devil and an angel”, she told the London Evening Standard: “It’s given lots of people all over the world the chance to come together and talk about a variety of things, and it’s given me a platform.
“Then there is that part of my job where I have to post glamorous photos. Am I adding to the message of how people think about themselves, and beauty, and the lack of confidence in young girls? I definitely believe it is highly detrimental when it is just glamour photos. It can give a rose-tinted view of life…I know that if I’m in a vulnerable place and I trail through Instagram, I can get myself in a horrible head-space.”
On Thursday (18Oct18), the 26-year-old, who has worked for the likes Armani, Fendi, and Alexander Wang, will be presiding over Save the Children’s Big Up Uganda Auction, along with photographer Felix Cooper.
Among the items up for sale are a customised pair of Christian Louboutin shoes and a makeover by Charlotte Tilbury, who’s just been tapped to work on the 2018 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
“Inspired by our visit to Save the Children’s projects in Uganda in 2017, we returned motivated and passionate to make a difference to children’s lives. Every penny you generously donate in this auction will help Save the Children transform children’s lives in Uganda,” Adwoa and Felix wrote on the Big Up Uganda website.
