During an appearance on Spanish talk show El Hormiguero on Tuesday, the Spanish actress was asked about fasting, one of the practices she recommends in her upcoming lifestyle guide STRONG: How to Eat, Move and Live with Strength and Vitality, and she revealed the couple stay fit by going without food for 16 hours each day.
“My husband and I do 16 hours of fasting every day,” she said. “I think it’s the best anti-ageing trick, not taking anything in 16 hours to let your body rest.”
Describing the regime as “very healthy”, the 43-year-old explained that in Australia, where the couple and their three children have lived for years, they eat much earlier than in Spain.
Intermittent fasting has become quite a popular trend in recent years. The 16:8 plan involves fasting for 16 hours and restricting the daily meal intake period to eight hours. For many people, this means not eating anything after dinner and skipping breakfast.
Her comments have sparked backlash on social media, with one user writing, “It’s embarrassing, she is prompting people to have severe nutritional problems. This is anything but healthy,” and another posting, “Elsa Pataky giving health advice. In which university have you studied to recommend fasting and guide on tips to be healthy? Fake news is bad, but fake health news is dangerous.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Pataky shared that she prefers to exercise outdoors and gets in a workout while walking her dogs.
“What I mean is that why not take advantage of going to the beach to take the dogs to, instead of walking, go do leg presses and work the a*s,” she explained. “I do it very much, people look at you, but what else is it? That’s how you work glutes.”
