Giovanna Battaglia Engelbert has been appointed as Swarovski’s first-ever company-wide creative director.

The Italian fashion editor began her career as a stylist, working with the likes of Anna Dello Russo and Franca Sozzani, and has since gone on to collaborate with major brands like Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors, and Dolce & Gabbana.

Now based in New York City, Giovanna has been tapped as creative director for Austrian crystal brand Swarovski, with the gig seeing her reimagine the product portfolio across all divisions, including the areas of design and content curation.

“For decades, Swarovski has been illuminating the world of fashion, design, entertainment, in general the whole creative industry,” she said. “I am thrilled to be leading the creative vision of a cultural powerhouse like Swarovski in the future.”

The first products designed by Giovanna will be showcased in the spring/summer 2021 collection.

And Robert Buchbauer, chief executive officer of Swarovski, is confident the fashion star will be able to help bosses bring further growth to the company.

“Our 125-year history is witness for the power of our company to transform and reinvent itself and I am pleased to welcome a brilliant creative mind and strong female leader like Giovanna to our company,” he added. “With her remarkable track record in the industry and compelling point of view, she will explore new frontiers and become a vital part in writing the next chapter of our success story.”

Along with her fashion credentials, Giovanna also boasts 1.1 million followers on Instagram.

The Spice Girls are making sure they shine on their trek around the U.K. and Ireland with one million Swarovski crystals sewn onto their costumes.

The girl power originators, now a foursome after Victoria Beckham declined to join them for the reunion shows, are currently on their Spice World 2019 Tour, kicked things off in Dublin last week.

As well as delighting fans with their catchy pop tracks, the singers – Geri Horner, Emma Bunton, Mel C and Mel B – have also made sure their costumes bring the wow factor.

In a statement regarding their outfits, costume designer Gabriella Slade gushed: “It’s an absolute dream job to design for a tour like this, and to be working with such brilliant women as the Spice Girls. The use of Swarovski crystals is really important and integral in designing for a pop show – it really elevates the costumes. You can always tell it’s a Swarovski crystal costume, even from the back of the stadium!”

The Wannabe hitmakers are taking their show all over the U.K. before finishing in London for three nights at the city’s famous Wembley Stadium.

Among the 100 costumes worn by the singers and their dancers is a new take on Geri’s famous Union Jack dress, the animal prints that Mel B became famous for and glitzy sportswear for Mel C, aka Sporty Spice.

And Swarovski executive board member Nadja Swarovski jumped at the chance to work with Gabriella and the British stars.

“(We wanted to) celebrate the amazing, empowering and iconic spirit of Girl Power for the Spice World tour,” Nadja said. “We are thrilled to help magnify the magic and dazzle of this stellar show.”

Prabal Gurung had a busy Met Gala night, making dresses for a range of stars, including models Joan Smalls and Candice Swanepoel.

With numerous of his creations taking centre stage at the annual style extravaganza in New York on Monday, Gurung was happy to update his Instagram followers with all the details of the looks.

Uploading multiple photos of models Smalls and Swanepoel, the designer explained how he came up with their individual ensembles.

Next to a photo of Smalls, wearing an Atelier Prabal Gurung dress, made up of tulle long sleeve column gown with engineered hand embroidered Tharu tattoo motifs and peacock feather fringe detail, Gurung revealed the inspiration was Tharu women – from the tribe of people nestled in the foothills of his native Nepal.

“(They) provide a new idea on what it means to be a feminist,” he wrote. “Tattooing their bodies as a form of resistance and armour, the Tharu’s exert their strength in an unexpected yet strikingly visual manner that offers a new perspective on empowered dressing.

“The inspiration for @joansmalls Atelier Prabal Gurung gown continues with archival nods to female heroines who possess a special power over their persona – Cher and Josephine Baker- while breaking barriers in performance and in activism.”

For Swanepoel, who embodied the Camp: Notes on Fashion theme in a light blue strapless column gown adorned with 220,000 Swarovski crystals and featuring a celeste silk taffeta tiered bouillon Watteau train, Gurung was inspired by the blonde star’s own personality.

“Candice’s Atelier Prabal Gurung gown is a couture labour of love, a celebration of glamour and a representation of Candice’s bright spirit,” he said.

Karlie Kloss has divulged how she “cheats” her way to a plumper pout.

The supermodel is one of the busiest names in the fashion industry, having landed major contracts for brands such as Estee Lauder, Carolina Herrera and Swarovski.

Now, Karlie has shared how she keeps her make-up looking picture-perfect in a video for Vogue Australia, with one aspect of the clip detailing how she does her lipstick.

“I love to have a nice natural lip and so I love to use a lip liner that’s the shade of my lips,” she said, before demonstrating how she uses a dark rose-coloured lip pencil to subtly draw a line outside of her upper lip. “I always cheat my lip shape a little bit. I will overdraw the upper lip and really just fill in and give a nice full shape.”

Elsewhere in the tutorial, Karlie explained how she prefers to use concealer rather than foundation for on-the-go touch-ups as she doesn’t like that “cakey” look on her skin. She also prefers waterproof mascara to regular formulas.

“You know when you look in the mirror halfway through the night and you realise you have mascara everywhere and no one has told you? That is the worst. Good friends will tell you, or at least they should!” the 26-year-old smiled. “I love using waterproof mascaras because it doesn’t transfer as much.”

In addition, Karlie is a fan of using eyeshadows in “tonal” colours to emphasise her eyes and likes to dab on a little highlighter under her brow bone and on her nose. The model also divulged her go-to trick for making her eyes look bright.

“I’m going to finish my day to night look with a little white liner on the inside of the lash line. I like to do it just as a way to open the eye and freshen up your look, especially at the end of the day,” she added.

Penelope Cruz is encouraged by the fashion houses who have pledged to go fur-free in recent months.

The Spanish actress has forged relationships with some of the biggest labels in the world, most recently working with Karl Lagerfeld to front Chanel’s latest cruise campaign. And as executives at the French luxury brand recently deciding no longer to use fur or exotic animal skins in products, Penelope is pleased to see the industry becoming more ethical.

“Well, I am actually very happy about that,” she told reporters at Mail Online at The Fashion Awards 2018 on Monday night (10Dec18). “It’s great news. I just collaborated with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and I don’t wear fur. I’ve never enjoyed that, and I’m so happy that so many designers are coming into that list of not doing it. I think it’s not necessary.”

Coach, Gucci, and Versace are just a few of the other brands that have opted to banish fur from their designs.

The actress was one of the many stylish guests to attend the glitzy ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall, and even joined supermodel Kate Moss to present the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator to photography duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. The event was held in partnership with Swarovski – a brand Penelope has recently worked with on a jewellery collection.

And the Vicky Cristina Barcelona star believes the luxury label is a great example of how sustainability and style can work hand in hand.

“They are like a huge example of sustainability and a different way of doing things,” she explained. “They do these man-created diamonds – they’re not from a mine – and they have the same value. I think it’s really important to find different ways. I think the future will go more and more in that direction.”

Now, Westwood is to be recognised by BFC officials for her contribution to the wider industry.

“With this special award Dame Vivienne Westwood will be recognised for being a campaigner for change throughout her career,” said Caroline Rush, BFC chief executive officer, in a statement. “She has led the way championing humanitarian and environmental issues, and her contribution to British fashion, make her one of the most respected designers in the fashion industry and a great inspiration to us all.

“Her most recent campaign has led more businesses in the fashion industry in the U.K. to Switch to Green Energy and she continues to inspire many more to do the same.”

Those previously honoured with the award include late Vogue Italia editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani and Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri.

Romee Strijd has been tapped to wear a special Swarovski look at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

The Dutch model first worked for the U.S. lingerie giant in 2014 and reached the prestigious Angel status the following year. Romee, 23, will be appearing in the 2018 show in New York City on Thursday (08Nov18) too, with executives at crystal company Swarovski now announcing that she will walk the runway in a bespoke design during the Celestial Angel Section of the spectacle.

“If you’ve ever been lucky enough to see a shooting star in the night sky, then you get an idea of how spectacular this year’s Swarovski Look for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will be,” a representative said in a statement. “Inspired by the heavens, it transforms Angel Romee Strijd into a sparkling burst of starlight, using 125,000 crystals. The effect is simply out of this world.”

Romee’s ensemble features a jewel-encrusted seven-pointed star in the place of wings, with the costume weighing a hefty 20 pounds (nine kilograms). There are 70,000 crystals attached to her bodysuit, which took a team 150 hours to hand-bead on.

“Here, the idea was that it should resemble a star-strewn night sky, so the bodice features a diagonal neck-to-hip constellation of crystals in a stardust effect, the shapes of the crystals echoing celestial bodies such as glittering stars and a luminescent moon,” they added.

Among the 2018 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show outfits that will be worn by models including Adriana Lima, Elsa Hosk, Candice Swanepoel, Jasmine Tookes, Lais Ribeiro, Gigi Hadid, Taylor Hill, and Kendall Jenner, there will be 45 that are covered in a total of 850,000 sparkling crystals.

“I feel like a superhero when I walk in this outfit!” added Romee.

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, featuring musical guests such as Rita Ora, The Chainsmokers and Halsey, will air in the U.S. on the ABC network on 2 December.

Swedish stunner Elsa Hosk has been chosen to model the coveted Fantasy Bra at the 2018 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

The runway beauty has been walking in the lingerie brand’s annual shows since 2011, and this time, the Victoria’s Secret Angel will be showing off her assets in the diamond-encrusted Dream Angels Fantasy Bra, which is worth $1 million (£766,500).

“It’s so exciting, I’m nervous already!” Elsa exclaimed as she announced the news on U.S. breakfast show Today. “It’s my eighth show, but I’ve never had the honour of wearing the Fantasy Bra yet, so it’s a big one.”

The pricey item boasts over 2,100 Swarovski diamonds for a total of 71 carats, all set in sterling silver, and although Elsa admits the bra itself isn’t too comfortable, she won’t be complaining.

“I mean, I don’t mind,” she shared. “For this, I’ll do it!”

Elsa follows in the footsteps of Brazilian model Lais Ribeiro, who was selected to wear the Fantasy Bra at last year’s fashion spectacular in Shanghai, China.

They will join fellow Victoria’s Secret Angels Adriana Lima, Behati Prinsloo, Candice Swanepoel, Stella Maxwell, and Jasmine Tookes, as well as models Bella and Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner, among others, when they strut their stuff on the catwalk for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in New York City on Thursday (08Nov18). It will air in the U.S. on 2 December.

Meanwhile, Elsa has also modelled a new version of the Dream Angels Fantasy Bra for fans to purchase for the first time.

The less expensive take on the lingerie, which is made in a similar style and covered with Swarovski crystals, comes with a $250 (£190) price tag and is set to launch on 29 November.

Jourdan Dunn has been named as the U.K. brand ambassador for Calzedonia.

The British model is one of the most sought-after names in the fashion industry and has recently walked in catwalk shows for the likes of Off-White, Burberry, Jeremy Scott, and Brandon Maxwell.

Now, Jourdan has landed a coveted new gig as one of the faces of Italian hosiery and beachwear company Calzedonia.

“So excited to announce I’m the new Uk ambassador for @calzedonia!” she wrote on her Instagram page. “Watch this space, coming soon #calzedonia#italianlegwear.”

Alongside her comment, Jourdan uploaded a photo of her posing in a black bra and underwear set, as well as black leopard print tights and black stilettos.

Neither the model nor Calzedonia reps have given any further details on her upcoming campaign.

However, Jourdan will be following in the footsteps of a number of famous names in joining the Calzedonia family.

Models including Georgia Fowler, Sui He, and Olivia Culpo have starred in the brand’s latest photoshoots, while Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts and Italian fashion influencer Chiara Ferragni are among the company’s other brand ambassadors.

Of late, Jourdan has had a string of prestigious jobs, including appearances in editorials for British Vogue and a campaign for crystal brand Swarovski. And she recently opened up to Glamour U.K. about how grateful she is to have a network of supportive women around her.

“It’s so important to surround yourself with like-minded women, that are going out there and being total bosses – it inspires me to be a better me,” the 28-year-old explained. “Karlie (Kloss) may be younger than me, but I really look up to her and she’s everything to me. Women need to support and encourage other women. There’s nothing sadder than tearing each other down.”

Karl Lagerfeld is teaming with Puma on a capsule collection.

The German designer runs his eponymous fashion house in addition to his duties as creative director at Chanel and Fendi, with the company selling ready-to-wear clothing and accessories.

Lagerfeld has recently partnered with model Kaia Gerber on a clothing range and will soon unveil a collection with French silverware company Christofle, but the company’s next major launch is to be a 13-piece line with German sportswear giant Puma.

According to editors at WWD, the concept first began with Lagerfeld’s interpretation of Puma’s Suede 50 shoe and quickly expanded into a wider range.

A teaser image from the marketing campaign depicts two models sporting black tracksuits with white text emblazoned down the sides as well as monochromatic sneakers featuring both the Karl Lagerfeld and Puma logos.

In addition, women’s pieces include a jumpsuit and T-shirt, while men’s garments feature a hoodie and logo T-shirts.

When it comes to accessories, Lagerfeld’s design team has created a baseball cap, backpack and shoulder tote, with many of the items evoking the couturier’s signature style – a tuxedo, white hair, black sunglasses, and high starched collars.

Representatives for Karl Lagerfeld and Puma have yet to comment on the line.

However, WWD has reported that the garments will be unveiled worldwide online, at both company’s boutiques and some other retailers on 19 October (18). Prices will range from $46 to $202 (£35 – £157).

Previously, Lagerfeld has had success with collaborations with numerous companies, having teamed with footwear brand Vans on a sneaker line, landed a watch deal with Swarovski and created a range of beauty products with Australian cosmetics company ModelCo.

Karl Lagerfeld x Kaia was unveiled at the end of August and is now being sold in select retailers around the world.
