Nina Dobrev has been getting creative with her lockdown workouts because she doesn’t have all the correct equipment at home.
The Vampire Diaries actress is a self-confessed fitness fanatic who loves to hit the gym with a personal trainer to maintain her toned physique, but the coronavirus lockdown has forced her to adapt her workout routine and find items around her Los Angeles home to use as weights.
“I’ve definitely been doing a lot of at-home workouts with random things for weight. You can’t go to the gym and I don’t have a home gym. I’m not fancy like that, so I was trying to do squats and things, but I usually do them with weights, which I don’t have. So, I have to get creative,” Nina shared with Allure. “I have this big, really heavy candle that I lift above my shoulders. I grabbed a planter from my backyard that I use to do squats. And then my hip thrusts: I put my puppy on my hips and I was lifting my dog.”
Although the workouts may not be as intense as her ones at the gym, the 31-year-old still feels the benefit of doing exercise routines, running, or cycling.
“It’s not just about looking good but feeling good, and I feel so much better when I’ve blown off some steam,” she stated. “And right now, we all need to be blowing off steam because you feel so trapped. You need to get it out somehow.”
Nina hit headlines on Thursday when she revealed she had turned hairdresser to trim her boyfriend Shaun White’s famous red locks. She was first linked to the Olympic medal-winning snowboarder back in March, when they were spotted on a bike ride together, but confirmed the relationship with her latest Instagram post.

Nina Dobrev has been letting her skin breathe during lockdown and has already noticed the benefits.
As an actress, the 31-year-old spends a lot of time on set wearing make-up, so when productions shut down and people were ordered to self-isolate, she took the opportunity to take a break from cosmetics. As a result, Nina’s complexion has become much clearer.
“In terms of straight-up beauty, honestly, I think the best thing that I’ve done for myself is I’ve been letting my skin breathe, and cleaning it, washing it, and then putting a lot of moisturiser on,” she told Allure. “Because of my industry, I wear so much make-up all the time. My skin is so much clearer now than it was before.”
The Vampire Diaries star has also been using a moisturiser from Augustinus Bader every night and getting more sleep than usual, although she is surprised her dark circles have not yet disappeared.
As part of her lockdown routine, Nina also ties her hair into braids each evening in order to give her locks a natural wave the following day.
“I’m the worst with hair. I honestly don’t do anything. I have wavy hair and usually just go in the shower and let it air dry,” she shared. “I’ve been showering at night before I watch whatever I’m going to watch to go to sleep, I braid my hair into two French braids. Then I (pull) them apart (a little) and make them bigger so they’re not tight.
“I spray them with Magic Myst (Universal Elixir from In Common), and then I sleep in it, and it dries overnight in the braids. Around 11:00 the next morning, once it’s really dry, I take out the braids and it’s like this crimpy, curly situation.”

Nina Dobrev has credited meditation with keeping her level-headed during the coronavirus lockdown.
The Vampire Diaries star opened up about her approach to wellbeing while in lockdown at her home in Los Angeles amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, and credited meditation with saving her sanity.
“I’ve always wanted to get into meditation, but never had time for it. If I’m being honest, I never made time for it,” she told Vogue.com, and joked that she was “allergic” to the spiritual concept.
“Now, I have nothing but time, and no excuses. During quarantine, I started doing a quick 15-minute meditation every morning, first thing when I wake up. It’s changed everything, and has really helped set the tone for my day,” Nina explained. “It has been instrumental in keeping me level-headed in moments of anxiety and distress during this extremely uncertain time. It’s been a game-changer for my mental wellbeing. I get it now, and I’m happy drinking the meditation Kool-Aid.”
The 31-year-old also confessed she’s been sleeping “more than ever” while self-isolating and the added rest has been hugely beneficial to her skin.
“In interviews, I would always say that my number one beauty tip was rest. But I didn’t always practice what I preached,” she shared. “Well, over the past two months I can proudly say I finally listened to my own advice. And my skin has never been clearer.”
In addition to sleep, Nina has been indulging in daily sheet masks to keep her complexion glowing, and is relying on products from Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle brand Goop.
“I’ve been doing sheet masks almost every day. Loops makes super-moisturising masks that bring that red-carpet-envy glow. Goop makes a glycolic face wipe I’ve been applying once weekly, and I’ve been using serums like Vintner’s Daughter. My face has started to feel like a baby’s bottom,” Nina joked.

Phoebe Tonkin has been unveiled as the new face of R.M. Williams.
The Australian actress, perhaps best known for playing Hayley Marshall in The Vampire Diaries, will front the footwear and clothing company’s upcoming Undeniable Character campaign, making her the first woman to officially represent the label in its 88-year history.
“R.M. Williams is a brand I’ve grown up with and embodies all that I love about being Australian – from the commitment to preserving and championing our land to the culture of friendship we are lucky to have,” she said. “While I’ve been coined as the first female ambassador, the truth is that there are hundreds of hardworking females and Undeniable Characters who have fed into the rich history of the brand. R.M. Williams’ commitment to exposing and fostering both new and past Undeniable Characters was something that was immediately appealing. My craft values storytelling above all else, so I was hugely flattered to be part of that.”
Phoebe follows in the footsteps of Hugh Jackman, who was named as a brand ambassador in March 2019. The first images from the 30-year-old’s campaign will debut in April, with chief marketing officer Mat Hayward excited to see the response.
“For us, Phoebe is the perfect embodiment of Undeniable Character and what it means as a brand, and we’re thrilled to welcome her into the R.M. Williams family,” he added. “Whilst we started as a unisex brand focused on classics with function and style, women’s has grown into a key category. Fifty per cent of our traffic is female, so it is important we have a female lead who resonates directly with this customer.”

Ian Somerhalder had to achieve his character’s beefed-up new look in V Wars in the space of two weeks.
The actor’s character Dr. Luther Swann undergoes a physical transformation to become a muscular, formidable-looking warrior in the finale episode of the Netflix vampire thriller.
In a short video about his new look, Somerhalder explained that by the time they came up with the storyline, he was 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms) underweight and a “tired skinny mess” because producing the series was so taxing, and he had two weeks to turn it around.
He called upon Jance Footit, his trainer from The Vampire Diaries, who put him on a strict diet and tough exercise regime.
“He immediately put me on a clean and strict but yummy diet of protein, fats, vegetables, good carbohydrates and loads of water. Five or six meals per day and all of the vitamins to feed rapid muscle growth!” Somerhalder recalled.
“With 10 days to go, I was not feeling very confident that I was looking like the new Swann 2.0. so Jance met me in Toronto with this one goal in mind. His method was incredible,” he explained. “It is simple: Train four days hard. Rest four days and shoot or compete. Only four days of training BUT three-four times per day! The goal is to train with so much frequency in those first few days to produce so much damage to the muscle they have only one thing to do: grow. Rapidly.”
The 41-year-old admitted the “first few days were brutal” because he was juggling training with his many other duties on the show, but he managed to achieve his goal.
“Come day of shooting, Swann was ready for the camera. I put on eight pounds of solid muscle in less than two weeks my arms had grown almost two inches. Swann looked like someone had temporarily inflated him with a bicycle pump. And that’s how Swann will stay for a good while,” Somerhalder concluded, adding that his new look will continue in season two.
V Wars season one is streaming on Netflix now.

Ian Somerhalder has abandoned plans to try out a “faux hawk” style in the middle of his haircut.
The Vampire Diaries actor took to Instagram on Monday (25Mar19) to upload a mirror selfie showing him wearing a black vest and posing with his head tilted to one side in order to show off his partly shaved head.
In the accompanying caption, Ian explained that he had made a list of goals to accomplish in 2019, including a new look, however, he confessed that he changed his mind about cutting his hair off part of the way through and is now stuck with an uneven hairstyle.
“After the 3 glasses of wine wore off and the clippers ran out of battery… something hit me like a tonne (of) bricks: a little thing called ‘continuity’ for aka #VWars reshoots!” he noted, referring to his upcoming Netflix TV series V-Wars. “I stopped trimming… s**t. Biotin smoothies here we come – gotta grow this s**t out fast… Hair growing out and gearing up for production now. So much gratitude to you all for so much support. It means the world…”
Ian, who is married to actress Nikki Reed, didn’t divulge whether he plans to try out the faux hawk hairstyle once he has finished work on V-Wars or how he will cover his shaved head if his hair doesn’t grow back in time.
The star also shared some of his other priorities for the year, including how he wants to develop his production company Rare Birds, raise money for the Ian Somerhalder Foundation, and unveil his wine and spirits companies.
Earlier this month, Ian launched his first red wine under the Dark ll Dawn label, with the product currently only available in China.
“I’m so proud of this wine. Over 3 years, 90 blends and countless hours of work and travel to make this happen,” the 40-year-old wrote alongside a snap of him posing with a bottle on social media. “Thank you to all that made this dream come true and thank you for supporting me in this amazing endeavour.”

Actor Ian Somerhalder is such a big believer in the “incredible healing properties” of infrared saunas, he’s had one installed in his garage.
The Vampire Diaries star took to Instagram on Monday (25Jun18) to share a snap of himself relaxing in the home sauna, revealing he enjoys detoxing his body while reading scripts for new roles and coming up with fresh ideas for other projects.
“My quiet garage alone time with the new scripts in my wooden capsule of healing heat, light and sound…” he captioned the image. “I’ve come up with many ideas in here for ISF (Ian Somerhalder Foundation), Vampire Diaries, my businesses and my family.”
Ian goes on to sing the praises of experts at Sunlighten Saunas, who claim their use of infrared technology can also help users reduce their blood pressure, lose weight, relieve pain, and fight the physical signs of ageing – and the 39-year-old insists it’s done wonders for his health.
“This thing has change (sic) my life and I’m so grateful that my dear friends at @sunlightensaunas have created such special healing equipment to make our lives and our health better,” he continued. “If you have any doubt of the incredible healing properties of these infrared saunas just check out what they do.
“It’s not just the heat but the light therapy and the sound resonance therapy. Mind blowing… They are helping people feel better and therefore act better to the world that surrounds them and that (is) such a cool thing.”
Ian, who is married to actress Nikki Reed, isn’t the only celebrity to embrace infrared saunas – Gwyneth Paltrow welcomed Sunlighten officials to participate in her In Goop Health wellness summit in Los Angeles earlier this month (Jun18).
