Thierry Mugler has applauded Cardi B for remaining “completely authentic”.

While Mugler may be one of the most famous names in fashion, he took a step back from the style scene in 2002.

However, he has come out of retirement on numerous occasions to dress celebrities, including working with Bodak Yellow rapper Cardi, who wore vintage Mugler to the 2019 Grammys.

Talking to The Birds actress Tippi Hedren for Interview magazine, the 70-year-old designer opened up about his admiration for Cardi.

“There’s an immediate connection, immediate communication, and it makes a big difference. It’s much more real. You’re able to see the person right away, especially with Cardi, who is incredibly natural. She’s completely authentic, and I love her for that. Her art is to be herself,” he praised.

The pair went on to discuss a wide range of topics, including keen bodybuilder Mugler’s physical transformation through exercise and surgery, and Hedren, the mother of Melanie Griffith, asked if his relationship with his body is an extension of some of his designs, which explore exaggerated shapes and silhouettes that go beyond the limits of a natural form.

“I never say I’m a fashion designer. I’ve always felt like a director, and the clothes I did were a direction of the every day,” he replied. “There are women with small waists and big shoulders, so it’s not much of an exaggeration to me. The shoulders were always important. In dance, I learned about the position of the neck, and the way you should stand.”

Thierry Mugler has briefly come out of retirement to make Kim Kardashian’s stunning 2019 Met Gala look.

The French designer, who now goes by the name of Manfred, opened his first boutique in Paris back in 1978 and has since gone on to win recognition for his structured silhouettes and dramatic runway productions.

While Mugler stepped entirely away from fashion design in 2010, with Casey Cadwallader now acting as head designer of the House of Mugler, he has now made an exception for Kardashian, and created the flesh-coloured beaded Latex ensemble that she wore to the opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s new exhibition, Camp: Notes on Fashion, on Monday night.

“This is the first time in 20 years Mr. Mugler has designed for the House of Mugler. So to come and design this gown for me is such an honour,” she told Vogue reporters on the red carpet. “This is about eight months in the making … He envisioned me this California girl stepping out of the ocean, wet, dripping.”

Kardashian added that she had worked with Mugler on the skin-tight dress for the past six months, and while he has yet to offer up much comment on their collaboration, the 70-year-old did write on his Instagram page: “Getting out of the Pacific straight to the #MetGalared carpet to shine like the brightest star! Iconic “Wet Look” is #BeyondCouture ! @KimKardashian is a #Muglerized #Camp Art piece.”

Earlier in the day, Kardashian uploaded images of Sophia Loren from 1957’s Boy on a Dolphin to tease the inspiration behind her look, while her rapper husband Kanye West turned up in a head-to-toe black ensemble, including a $40 (£30) black jacket by workwear brand Dickies.

Though Mugler hasn’t designed for his own label in many years, his avant-garde garments have had a resurgence of late, with the 38-year-old reality star sporting a daring black vintage cutout gown to an event in February, and Cardi B donning a pearl-encrusted Venus-inspired number to the 2019 Grammys.

Kim Kardashian: ‘Everyone can copy my simple style’

Kim Kardashian is convinced her style is both “relatable and attainable”.

The reality star is famous for turning heads with her looks, whether she’s heading to the grocery store or to a red carpet event.

And while her wardrobe is full to the brim of designer items, mother-of-three Kim thinks fans can recreate her ensembles whatever their budget.

“I have always been extremely simple and really relatable,” she told People magazine. “If I am going through a sweatpants and heels phase or more of a dressy phase, it has always been something that I think other people can kind of have their own version of… It’s really attainable.”

There are some of Kim’s outfits that are less relatable, however – such as the flesh-flashing vintage Thierry Mugler dress she wore to the Hollywood Beauty Awards earlier this year (19).

And the Keeping Up with the Kardashians personality understands that not everyone is going to want to copy such out-there looks.

“Maybe not certain dresses. Like, maybe not certain things, like the Mugler dress, that are so exquisite and different,” the 38-year-old mused. “But I think my everyday style for sure is really accessible.”

Kim has undergone a complete style overhaul since she started dating now-husband Kanye West back in 2012. Yet, she credits her spouse for giving her a new perspective on fashion, after he introduced her to various power players in the industry.

“My style has definitely evolved,” she explained. “When I met Kanye and he really started to bring me to Paris, he introduced me to a bunch of people. I think one of the first people I met were (designers) Riccardo Tisci and Alber Elbaz.

“I’ve learned so much along the way from so many of the best people in the world. So my appreciation has changed enormously.”

Beyonce was ready to be “Muglerized” when she worked with fashion designer Thierry Mugler.

Mugler, who now goes by the name Manfred, founded his namesake label in 1974, with his creations dominating the fashion landscape in the ‘80s and ‘90s.

A new retrospective celebrating his work recently opened at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Thierry Mugler: Couturissime, in collaboration with the Clarins Group and Maison Mugler.

Reflecting on his work with famous names, which in recent months has included Cardi B and Kim Kardashian wearing vintage Thierry Mugler dresses, Mugler explained to The Hollywood Reporter how these partnerships come about.

“Celebrities I work with are usually super women and men who transcend the day-to-day routine and are open to speaking to anyone and not only to the fashion world. I like to enhance their natural skills, make them discover new facets of themselves and give them strength to face the world,” he shared. “Beyonce is a ‘stage beast,’ a super hard-working artist with intuition. She was ready to be ‘Muglerized,’ and we crossed paths at the right time. When we met, it was just.”

Beyonce wore custom Mugler on her On The Run II Tour last year (18), as well as her I Am World Tour in 2009.

Thierry Mugler: Couturissime runs until 8 September. A new book published by the Montreal Museum of Fine Art about the designer has also been released, featuring 350 archival images.

On Wednesday (27Feb19) morning, Bruno Sialelli ushered in a fresh era at Lanvin at Paris Fashion Week.

The designer showed off his debut collection for the troubled brand, after joining Lanvin in January from his post at Loewe.

Showing off his artistic flair with cute cartoon drawings, pencil portraits and fox motifs, Sialelli brought the wow factor back to the brand – helped by the inclusion of superstar models Gigi Hadid and Kaia Gerber.

Feminine silhouettes worked well alongside chunky knits and sheer fabrics, with a romantic elegance seen across the entire Fall/Winter 19 collection.

Stand out moments in the co-ed show included knitted corset detailing on a butter yellow trouser suit, a peach velvet men’s suit with a daisy drawing printed onto the front, and swishy scarf material seen on oversized shirts, dresses and skirts.

Ninety minutes later, Mugler showed in the City of Lights.

Structured and sexy tailoring, funky leather and sexy high-shine thigh-high booties made their way down the catwalk.

The modest collection was a world away from the headline-grabbing vintage Thierry Mugler garment Kim Kardashian recently squeezed into. Skin was covered in a patchwork prints, including animal, marbled monochrome and psychedelic swirls.

Jackets were nipped in at the waist, with a white blazer featuring slightly too long sleeves, and a black version adding an extra dimension with a ruffled peplum.

Later on Wednesday, Rochas, Lemaire, and Kenzo will take centre stage.

Kim Kardashian slams fast-fashion retailers as designer knock-off appears online

Kim Kardashian has slammed fast-fashion retailers for knocking off her vintage Thierry Mugler gown just hours after she wore it.

The mother-of-three donned the eye-catching cut-out gown to the Hollywood Beauty Awards on Sunday night (17Feb19). Less than 24 hours later, a version of the dress, called the Winning Beauty Cut Out Gown, was available to pre-order on Fashion Nova’s website, priced at $49.99 (£38).

Kim took to her social media on Tuesday night to have her say in a lengthy statement, although she avoided naming Fashion Nova.

“It’s devastating to see these fashion companies rip off designs that have taken the blood, sweat and tears of true designers who have put their all into their own original ideas,” she wrote. “I’ve watched these companies profit off my husband’s work for years and now that it’s also affecting designers who have been so generous to give me access to their beautiful works, I can no longer sit silent.”

Kim continued her post to insist she has no relationship with Fashion Nova.

“Only two days ago, I was privileged enough to wear a one-of-a-kind vintage Mugler dress and in less than 24 hours it was knocked off and thrown up on a site – but it’s not for sale,” she added. “You have to sign up for a waitlist because the dress hasn’t even been made to sell yet.”

Kim is known for drawing attention with her stunning red carpet looks, which she told her followers she often plans for “weeks, sometimes months and even a year in advance”.

“My relationships with designers are very important to me. It’s taken me over a decade to build them and I have a huge amount of respect for the amount of work that they put into bringing their ideas to life. I’m not leaking my looks to anyone, and I don’t support what these companies are doing.”

Fashion Nova bosses subsequently issued their own statement, which read: “We respect the fashion community and work with a variety of vendors, designers, influencers and celebrities to keep our style offering fresh and relevant. Kim Kardashian West is one of the top fashion icons in the world that our customers draw inspiration from. However, we have not worked with Kim Kardashian West directly on any of her projects, but have been driven by her influential style.”

Kim Kardashian leaves nothing to the imagination in most revealing dress yet

Kim Kardashian pulled out all the stops by wearing her most revealing dress to date as she attended the Hollywood Beauty Awards on Sunday night (17Feb19).

The mother-of-three is known for her body confidence when it comes to wearing some of the fashion industry’s figure-revealing items. And while Kim is no stranger to hitting headlines with her sexy outfit choices, she went above and beyond as she attended the star-studded Los Angeles ceremony wearing a vintage Thierry Mugler dress.

The cut out dress, from the designer’s Spring/Summer ’98 collection, was held together with several strips of black fabric – two of which helped Kim maintain a slight bit of modesty by covering her nipples.Other than that, Kim’s breasts were almost entirely on show, with the reality star’s dress amping up the sex appeal even more with a thigh-high split.

Keeping Up With the Kardashians beauty Kim teamed the dress with matching wrist straps and a pair of perspex heels, with her raven hair worn in a sleek top knot, courtesy of her longtime hairstylist Chris Appleton. A smoky eye and nude lip completed the look.

And Kim was clearly more than happy with the finished result, writing on her Twitter page earlier in the evening: “You know that mood when you’re really feeling your look?” alongside an emoji of a woman with her hand up.

While Kim is known for wearing outrageous looks, or shocking fans by going completely nude for snaps on her social media pages, she appears to have taken things to another level in recent weeks.

As she attended the amfAR Gala with sister Kourtney earlier this month, Kim donned a similarly risque dress, which featured a low-cut neckline to once again draw attention to the beauty’s assets.

Helena Christensen has once again modelled the metal bikini she first wore 27 years ago.

The Danish model rose to fame in the early 1990s, having landed campaigns for the likes of Revlon, Chanel, Versace and Prada. Perhaps one of Helena’s most famous editorials saw her pose in a Thierry Mugler metal bikini for LA magazine in 1991 and she has now recreated the photoshoot for U.S. InStyle magazine’s August 2018 issue.

“I wore this exact Thierry Mugler metal outfit when my dear friend and mentor Herb Ritts photographed me in 1991 for LA magazine,” she wrote on her Instagram page on Wednesday (27Jun18) alongside the original and recent photoshoot. “It was a tight squeeze then and it’s a tight squeeze now but I did it. Thank you Julie (Pelipas, fashion director) for bringing this amazing outfit back to me! So excited to be part of this issue with all those true bada*s girls.”

Helena worked with InStyle editor-in-chief Laura Brown, hairstylist Harry Josh, make-up artist Hung Vanngo and manicurist Honey on the new shoot, which also included images of her posing in swimsuits in New York’s Financial District.

While some may have felt uncomfortable posing in such a public arena, the former catwalk star took it all in her stride.

“(True New Yorkers) could give a s**t about what anyone looks like. I was just another weirdo strolling downtown on my way to work,” the 49-year-old shared in a chat with InStyle. “Even though it can be awkward and uncomfortable, it adds something to my life. I like what (modelling) adds. I think it’s important to try all kinds of things in our relatively short lives.”

Another special moment Helena discussed was when she stepped out on the Versace runway alongside fellow supermodels Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell and Carla Bruni in honour of the Italian brand’s 20th anniversary in September last year. And the brunette beauty couldn’t believe the online reaction the spectacle received.

“I thought my phone was malfunctioning,” she said of the 30,000 Instagram followers she garnered overnight. “It was so much bigger than I had imagined. Afterward the other girls from the show were just standing there with tears in their eyes and hugging us. It became very emotional. I hope that Gianni (Versace) felt that energy coming from earth. He definitely would have.”

Kim Kardashian will never wear one particular fragrance again because it evokes too many memories.

The reality TV personality has made a splash in the beauty world of late, launching six perfumes, including the new Kimoji Heart scents, under her KKW Beauty company.

While Kim now has a variety of her own fragrances to choose from each day, she has revealed that she still has a strong emotional attachment to Thierry Mugler’s Angel because her father Robert Kardashian, who died of cancer in 2003, used to buy it for her.

“My dad’s thing was that he always bought me fragrance, everywhere he went,” she told Refinery 29. “When he’d travel, he’d come back with fragrance and I collected them in high school. So, it really does evoke a memory.”

Angel, which comes packaged in a blue glass flacon, has base notes of vanilla, chocolate, caramel and patchouli, a heart of fruit and honey as well as a dash of bergamot.

And even though the perfume was Kim’s signature for a long time, she had to retire the scent after her dad bought it for some of his love interests following his divorce from Kim’s mother Kris Jenner.

“With Angel, he started to buy it for all of his girlfriends, too, and they would be really annoying, so I wouldn’t like it anymore. There were maybe two or three (girlfriends). I got so sick of it because it turned into all their fragrances instead of my fragrance. I was like, O.K. I’m done. I can’t wear that anymore,” the 37-year-old shared.

Kim added that she tends to wear her Crystal Gardenia scent on a daily basis, while her husband Kanye West likes to spritz on Yves Saint Laurent’s L’Homme cologne. She has just unveiled the Kimoji Hearts line, which includes a sweet floral named BFF, fruity scent Ride or Die as well as a playful citrus called Bae, and revealed on social media on Thursday that she had sent Bae to some of her “haters” including Taylor Swift, Blac Chyna, Pink, Bette Midler and Chloe Grace Moretz.
