Oscar de la Renta has dished up a line of glamorous ballgowns for its fall/winter 2020 collection.
Creative directors Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia unveiled their latest line for the luxury fashion house at The New York Public Library as part of New York Fashion Week on Monday night, with celebrities including Nicky Hilton and Logan Browning perched on the front row.
Regarding their inspiration for the range, the designers looked at photographs of the Black and White Ball hosted by author Truman Capote in 1966, which was attended by brand founder de la Renta and his wife Francoise de Langlade, as well as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s 1797 poem The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, which was adapted into Walt Disney’s 1940 animated film Fantasia.
“With @fernandogarciam1205 and @tokibunbun starring as Oscar de la Renta’s apprentices, fall 2020 captures the allure of a magical evening and the fleeting feeling of a once-in-a-lifetime occasion,” a rep shared in a post on Instagram.
To open the show, Bella Hadid modelled a vibrant outfit comprised of teal trousers, a dark red top, red silk scarf, and bright blue coat.
A number of similar looks featuring bold colour-blocking followed, including a number made up of a red coat and bright pink tailored trousers.
Part of the way through the presentation, Kim and Garcia introduced more muted floral appliques on dresses, blazer lapels, sweaters, and coats.
Yet, the drama really ramped up towards the end of the spectacle, with the designers offering a crimson silk ballgown with a drop waist, a black ballgown covered in a firework-like sequin pattern, a draped burgundy velvet dress, and a minidress made of gold beaded fabric.
To conclude, Bella made a second appearance in a pink velvet dress accessorised with a matching feathered cape.
