Lucy Hale has urged everybody to make time for self-care.

The Pretty Little Liars star, who is also a spokeswoman for Degree deodorants, is adamant that while it’s important to work out and eat healthily, mental wellbeing should never be neglected.

As a result, she is encouraging us all to make room for plenty of ‘me-time’ in our lives.

“My mom has always taught me to be the best version of myself, so she instilled that in me. But you also learn new things about yourself as you get older,” the actress explained in an interview with StyleCaster. “That just comes with age and experience. At 29 years old, I’ve figured out what works for me and what doesn’t. For me, my lifestyle is so on the go and it’s constantly changing, so for me, it’s about the tiny moments during the day that I sort of have to pause and breathe.”

Lucy cites eating good food and meditation as a couple of things that are guaranteed to shift her towards a better head space, and also recommends exercise as a way of letting go of tension.

“I genuinely enjoy it,” she smiled. “Not just because of the physical aspects, but it’s my therapy in a way, so I never skip out on it. I typically work out in the morning, and when I have a day off, that’s definitely on top of my list.”

And when it comes to beauty, the Truth or Dare star likes to indulge in luxury skin care.

“I definitely splurge on facials and massages,” she admitted. “I have a facialist; her name is Molly Lucio. I see her almost every week just to maintain. I kind of let her do her own thing, from lasers to peels and LED light to muscle tightening. When I’m just chillin’ at home, I am a huge face mask lover. I’ll pop on a couple and watch TV. That’s my dream day.”

Actress Lucy Hale exposes her face to wretched-smelling skincare products every single day.

The Truth or Dare star is acne prone and she utilises a toner on a regular basis that effectively staves off pimples, even though it absolutely reeks.

“I’m obsessed with the Biologique Recherche Lotion P50,” she tells Marie Claire magazine. “I know a lot of people know about it and like it, but I just recently started using it, and I love it.

“We all use a lot of the wrong products for our skin type, and this toner helps balance out your face to get your skin to look how it looked as a child.

“It smells awful – like really, really intense – but it’s worth it; my pores are smaller, there’s more clarity, and my skin looks better overall.”

Lucy, 28, will always go the extra mile to keep her skin clear and has tested out some products that others may be too scared to try.

“Retinol has been the biggest game-changing product for me, but you’ve got to be consistent with it, even when your skin flakes at first,” she shares, noting it normally “takes months to work”.

“I’m really breakout-prone, and retinol keeps my skin really clear, because it helps speed up cell turnover to prevent build-up in your pores,” she adds. “I mix my retinol with my moisturiser and use it only three nights a week.”

Although the former Pretty Little Liars star is willing to take risks with skincare, when it comes to hair and makeup, she prefers to keep it quick and chic.

“I would try to keep it fast and classic,” Lucy says. “I would pull my hair into a sleek ponytail, then slick down the flyaways with a gloss. “(I prefer) really clean skin, a very minimal eye, and a really good brick-red lipstick. I really love the matte red lip I get from Nars Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil, or I’d use MAC’s Ruby Woo lipstick, which I know everybody also loves.”

Lucy Hale was rebuffed when she offered to do one of her own stunts in Truth or Dare.

The Pretty Little Liars star is moving away from her teen drama roots with the new horror, about a group of friends who face deadly consequences during a game of truth or dare.

The film is full of jumpy moments which involved stunt work, and although 28-year-old Lucy was keen to get stuck in, producers hired professionals for the bigger stunts.

“Definitely, the most challenging was the roof sequence,” Lucy said to Collider of the scene when a character is dared to walk around the roof of a building. “I wasn’t on the roof, I was just running around and we were throwing furniture. I was so sore from throwing all the furniture. I swear, we did it 150 times. I was so sore. Then, we had drones. It was a four-day sequence.

“There was the car stunt that they didn’t let me do. I wanted to do it, but they wouldn’t let me. The hardest one for me to watch was the neck break scene. I don’t even know how they did it. I’m not sure how they made that look so believable. But, that roof sequence was a challenge for everyone.”

Talking about her move from TV into film, Lucy admits she initially wanted to take some time off when the popular show ended in 2017, but felt she couldn’t pass up Jeff Wadlow’s scary new flick.

“Pretty Little Liars was coming to an end, and I didn’t really know what I was going to do. I was freaking out because I was like, ‘Oh, my god, what do you mean I’m not going to work? What am I going to do?!’ I was like, ‘Maybe I’ll take some time off’. I had a whole list of things that I could do. But then, I got presented with this idea that I thought was really clever and unlike anything I’d heard before.”

Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey also stars in the film, which hit cinemas earlier this month (Apr18).

Actor Tyler Posey and his Truth or Dare castmates had no idea the casual vacation footage they filmed on their phones would end up as the opening sequence of the new horror film.

Tyler and his co-stars were flown to Mexico ahead of production on the scary movie at the behest of director Jeff Wadlow, who wanted the cast to develop real-life bonds to enhance the friendships onscreen.

As soon as the actors arrived on the sandy beaches of Rosarito, they started gleefully filming their escapades on smartphones, only to discover later that the random footage would actually end up in the movie.

“We did not know that we were going to film the opening title sequence,” Tyler recalls to Collider. “(Director) Jeff wanted us to go to Mexico, as a cast bonding trip, to get to know one another, so that the friendships felt really real.

“I think it was just an added bonus to possibly film our opening title sequence on our phones, to make it seem like we actually lived out that week in Rosarito, but it turned out to be really, really, really good, and we got great footage.”

Posey stars alongside Lucy Hale in the new film, about a group of college seniors who vacation in Mexico together for the last time before graduating university, only for a silly game of truth or dare to turn spooky and deadly.

Calling his castmates “super talented and super passionate” people, Tyler absolutely loved filming the movie, but the former Teen Wolf admits there was one gory element he thought Truth or Dare needed more of.

“I wish there was more blood, honestly,” he laughs. “I had a great time on Teen Wolf, with all of the blood on that show. There was not enough blood for me (on this). There’s definitely a lot of blood in the movie, but I wasn’t covered in it enough.”

However, he thinks fans will be shivering in their seats when they see the horror film.

“I think scary movies are way scarier when there’s less to see, if that makes any sense,” he winks.

Truth or Dare hits U.S. theatres on Friday (13Apr18).
