Tyra Banks has been passionately lobbying for a sequel to her 2000 movie Coyote Ugly for years.

The movie followed Violet, played by Piper Perabo, who moves to New York to launch a career as a songwriter and pays the bills by working at a bar where the all-female staff dance on the bar.

To mark the movie’s 20th anniversary, Tyra, who played a bartender alongside the likes of Maria Bello and Bridget Moynahan, revealed to Variety that she has been campaigning for a sequel for a while and even has producer Jerry Bruckheimer, songwriter Diane Warren, and singer LeAnn Rimes on board.

“I’ve had a passion to do a sequel to Coyote Ugly for some time now,” she shared. “I’ve even reached out to Jerry Bruckheimer and the team and the original writer and they’ve had some jam sessions on what it could possibly be. I feel like we need to do some type of rallying cry to social media, you know, kind of like a petition to get people to sign to make the sequel.

“I actually really want to produce it. We have really been wanting to do that and even had a form of a treatment with the original writer. And even Warren, who did the original music with Rimes, is super passionate about this.”

Tyra and Piper have been discussing a sequel privately on social media and the actress stated that she would want the follow-up to reflect how attitudes have changed in the past 20 years.

“We’re all 20 years older and we have to rethink the story. Like, ‘Who owns the bar? What are we all doing? Do we all still know each other? And what’s it about?'” she explained. “Because that movie in 2000, that was a really different moment, that was the sort of stiletto-feminism and women’s rights and we’re maybe in the third wave of feminism now and things have evolved and I would want the movie to reflect that evolution.”

Producer Jerry added that his team has been trying to get “something going” but they haven’t had much luck as it was made by Disney’s Touchstone Pictures label, which no longer exists.

Tyra Banks has launched an ice cream line.

Back in her America’s Next Top Model days, the supermodel coined the phrase Smize, meaning “smile with your eyes”, and she filed an application to trademark Smize Cream in June last year.

Now it appears her trademark bid was successful, as she announced the launch of SMIZE Cream on Instagram last week, revealing each scoop comes with a surprise.

“One of my favorite things in the world is ice cream,” she wrote next to a photo of her sampling the frozen treat. “As an avid entrepreneur, I’ve always wanted to create an ice cream company with amazing flavors for you to enjoy. But great ice cream wasn’t enough.

“I wanted to surprise and delight you, too. SMIZE Cream is debuting this summer… It’s a premium ice cream packed with sweet, savory, and scrumptious goodies PLUS a super-secret edible surprise inside every serving called a SMIZE prize.”

Over on the official SMIZE Cream Instagram account, representatives for the brand announced they would be coming to Los Angeles in the summer and shared more detail about the prize.

“We’ve hidden a luxurious, chunk-a-licious, rich, delectable, sweet truffle treat – a ‘SMIZE Prize’ – inside every serving. Yep, every serving! The ‘SMIZE Prize’ will bring the SMIZE to your mouth and eyes!” they wrote.

This is the latest venture the 46-year-old is exploring. She has previously tried her hand at being an actress, a talk show host, author, and beauty brand founder. She was recently announced as the new host of the next season of hit U.S. show Dancing With the Stars and is still gearing up to launch her beauty theme park ModelLand, which was due to open in Santa Monica in May before the Covid-19 pandemic struck.

Jay Manuel was ‘horrified’ by race swap challenge on America’s Next Top Model

America’s Next Top Model star Jay Manuel was “slightly horrified” when contestants were made to “swap races” in a 2005 episode.

The reality TV show and its creator Tyra Banks have recently come under fire from people watching old episodes of the series, with social media users noting comments and challenges which haven’t aged well, such as Banks telling a model to close the gap in her teeth and assigning models races or ethnicities for a photoshoot.

In an interview with Variety, make-up artist Manuel, who served as creative director between 2003 and 2012, admitted that the photoshoot made him feel uneasy.

“I was so, so, so uncomfortable with this. I was never scripted for my intros or anything, and I didn’t know how I was going to be able to set this up – I was so afraid that I would wear this because I was the creative director, but it was not my idea… I was basically told that I had to execute the creative, and it made me very uncomfortable,” he stated. “I was slightly horrified… There were just certain people working on the show in a senior position where several producers, not just myself, became very scared to speak up. I actually brought my concern first to another co-executive producer because I was too scared to even take it up higher to an executive producer.”

Over the weekend, Banks told her Twitter followers she agreed with the criticism of some “off choices” and the show’s co-creator Ken Mok insisted that “the entire creative team made the choices”.

Manuel told Variety that while he thinks “it’s a little unfair for people to persecute Tyra now,” the decisions ultimately came down to Banks and Mok.

“There were sometimes several objections by other producers and myself about layers that were added to creative, and we were just told to execute,” the TV personality said. “I think it’s a little unfair to throw the whole team under the bus.”

In the interview, Manuel also insisted it was his decision to leave the programme after Cycle 18 and he currently has “no relationship” with Banks.

He has written a novel titled The Wig, The B**ch & The Meltdown, inspired by his time on the show. It will be released on 3 August.

Tyra Banks has responded to criticism over controversial comments she made on past seasons of America’s Next Top Model.

Clips from the show have been resurfacing on social media lately, with fans taking a look back at some of the more cringeworthy moments from the TV contest’s history.

Viewers have taken to social media to vent their frustrations at specific moments, including a particularly cruel clip from season six in back in 2006, in which Tyra tells hopeful Dani Evans that she will never make it as a successful model because of the gap in her teeth.

“Danielle, you went to the dentist but you refused to have your gap closed,” the host said to Dani, who eventually went on to win that season. “Do you really think you can have a CoverGirl contract with a gap in your mouth?”

“Yes, why not?” the young model replied, prompting Tyra to pretend to create a tooth gap with her finger: “This is all people see. It’s not marketable.”

However, the 46-year-old, who is also an executive producer on the programme, later took to Twitter to explain her comments.

“Been seeing the posts about the insensitivity of some past ANTM moments and I agree with you. Looking back, those were some really off choices. Appreciate your honest feedback and am sending so much love and virtual hugs,” Tyra wrote.

Dani also responded to the America’s Next Top Model incident and insisted she wasn’t surprised by the backlash because she’s “heard it all before”.

“So I’mma take this time to build up and to speak to all of my young queens that saw that episode that were truly affected by Tyra’s words… You’re beautiful,” she shared.

Other contentious moments include season 13’s “biracial themed” photoshoot, where contestants had their skin darkened, and season four runner-up Kahlen Rondot being asked to do a photoshoot in a coffin in a graveyard – just one day after her friend died.

Tyra Banks has detailed her unconventional method for making the perfect bagel.

In a new video for Harper’s Bazaar, the model/entrepreneur candidly discussed her diet and favourite foods, noting that she treats eating out like a “hobby”.

But Tyra’s preferred breakfast is a bagel and she has come up with an inventive way to cram as much cream cheese into each one as possible.

“I take my bagel, a plain bagel on a day that I’m going to be in front of somebody’s face, onion bagel if I’m not going to be speaking closely to people. I cut the bagel in half and scoop out all of that extra ‘bagelisation’ and put that on the side. And then I take my whipped cream cheese and I dig deep into the entire pot of it and I fill up the entire scooped out bagel rounds like a moat,” she explained. “But I’m not finished yet… I put it in the microwave and set it for 20 seconds. What starts to happen is the molecular makeup of the cream cheese starts to change. It’s not just heated, oh no, it’s creamy and has a slightly tart flavour.”

Elsewhere in the clip, Tyra shared that she loves to snack on corn chips, sesame bars, natural liquorice, bean chips, and cauliflower puffs when taking breaks from working on her upcoming ModelLand theme park. And when she has a little spare time, she will make her own candied bacon pieces.

“I take bacon, it must be cured and it must be smoky. And I create a sauce on the side that has maple syrup, but it has to be fake maple syrup – not that fancy Canadian stuff – and some Sriracha. I mix it into this wonderful elixir and then I dip the bacon in that, lay the bacon out (on a tray), grind pepper all over it,” the 46-year-old stated. “It starts to crystallise and caramelise (in the oven). It comes out of the oven and it is almost like candy. It is so good!”

Tyra Banks has gained around 30 pounds over the course of a year.

In a new video for Harper’s Bazaar, the model/entrepreneur candidly discussed her diet and favourite foods, noting that she treats eating out like a “hobby”.

“I have a very interesting relationship with food. I have to say that it is one of the most important things in my life,” she stated. “A lot of my personal life, and the things that I like to do and my hobby is food. Finding new restaurants, doing a challenge where I can’t go to the same restaurant twice again for six months, finding food festivals – I love a supper club.”

However, Tyra’s passion for trying new foods and eateries has led her to gain between 25 and 30 pounds (11 to 13 kilograms) since she came out of retirement and appeared on the cover of the 2019 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue last May.

“Right now, you can’t tell because I have on a men’s blazer, (but) I am 25 pounds heavier than I was on the cover of a very famous swimsuit magazine that came out last year,” the 46-year-old commented. “It’s like, when you’re tired and you’re working hard, you just go to this fast food and this fast food and this fast food, and you compare the burgers! So, I’m 30 pounds heavier and it’ll come off one day, but not today.”

Elsewhere in the clip, Tyra shared that she loves to snack on corn chips, sesame bars, natural liquorice, bean chips, and cauliflower puffs when taking breaks from working on her upcoming ModelLand theme park. And at the end of the day, she will sometimes order the same dish from two different restaurants.

“I do it with my son, I do it with my man, we line it up and then we score the different restaurants with the same item. What happens is, the next time you order, you know where to order from because one of them is always nasty,” she smiled.

Tyra Banks has postponed the launch of ModelLand amid the global coronavirus outbreak.

The 46-year-old took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce that the opening of her interactive modelling experience would be delayed until later this year.

“As advised from federal, state & local gov, & of experts from the World Health Organization, we will postpone the opening of @ModelLand until deemed safe (sic),” Tyra wrote alongside a screenshot of an official statement. “Please take care of yourselves. Find ways to connect with your loved ones digitally & utilize this time to organize & prepare for the unexpected.”

The 21,000-square-foot multi-level theme park was due to open in Santa Monica, California in May. Advance ticket packages, priced from $59 to $1,495 (£51 – £1,295), had already gone on sale.

“In light of the recommendations of the CDC, WHO, and California Governor Gavin Newsom, we have decided to postpone the opening of ModelLand,” a statement released by ModelLand representatives added. “Will continue to monitor the situation and determine a new date to open that is appropriate and safe.

“We remain excited to bring the wonderous world of ModelLand to you and will wait to welcome you to our attraction when the time is right.”

The coronavirus pandemic has infected more than 9,400 people in the U.S., with 155 dead.

Since the outbreak began in Wuhan, China back in December, more than 220,000 have caught the virus, and almost 9,000 have died.

Tyra Banks was inspired by Cindy Crawford to pursue a career outside of modelling.

In a new interview, the TV personality, producer, businesswoman, actress, and author has credited the supermodel for paving the way for others in the industry to establish their own brands.

“I kind of followed in the footsteps of Cindy Crawford, but just did it my way,” she told WWD. “I was very inspired by her. I remember reading an article saying she had a Revlon contract and an office in the Revlon building, and I’m like, ‘Wow, that’s cool.’

“I couldn’t really understand what that meant, but I know there was something powerful behind it. I liked that she took her name and made herself a brand and household name.”

However, the America’s Next Top Model host and creator went on to explain that she is pleased she gave Cindy’s career her own spin and headed into television.

“I added my own passions. It’s producing television and creating a talk show and now being the founder of ModelLand,” the 46-year-old added, referencing her upcoming modelling theme park

The unique attraction, which will give visitors the chance to live out their “ultimate modelling fantasy”, will open its doors in Santa Monica, California in May.

And Tyra said her vision for ModelLand was to give other women the tools to create their own careers in the fashion business.

“I like to say we’re like the Disney of fashion and beauty and self-esteem,” she shared. “It’s a place where everybody can be the fantasy versions of themselves.”

Tyra Banks has never washed the infamous swimsuit she was shamed for wearing over a decade ago.

The America’s Next Top Model host faced harsh criticism for her fuller figure back in 2007 after paparazzi snapped unflattering pictures of her wearing the brown strapless one-piece, which featured colourful stripes across the breasts, on the beach.

At the time, she refused to be defeated by the harsh tabloid criticism, and donned the same swimsuit to host an episode of her now-defunct daytime series, The Tyra Banks Show, and slammed her haters in a defiant speech.

“To all of you who have something nasty to say to me or to women built like me… I have one thing to say to you: Kiss my fat a*s!” she declared.

During a recent appearance on U.S. chat show Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the 46-year-old revealed that she has never washed the brown one-piece and has since stored it in a personal archive.

“Oh my gosh it is totally in an archive,” she shared. “Oh my god, it is so there. And it still has like the oil and the sand in it. Like I did not wash it. I’m like, ‘It’s gonna stay stank and real’… I have a good archive.”

Last year, Tyra opened up about her hopes for her fellow models and said she was happy with how the fashion industry was now embracing diversity.

“What I’m hoping for is that the Ashley Graham’s, the Gigi Hadid’s, everyone is just models. Not plus, not short, not trans, not curvy. I just want it to be normal,” she shared. “I’m happy that the fashion industry is finally catching up.”
