America Ferrera is determined to stay fit and strong during her second pregnancy.

Earlier this month, the Ugly Betty star announced that she and husband Ryan Piers Williams were expecting a little brother or sister for their 19-month-old son Sebastian.

Now, in a new Instagram post, America has shared a picture of her working out in the gym with her baby bump proudly on display. In the accompanying caption, she told her fans that she was trying to keep fit in an effort to stay healthy, both mentally and physically.

“Soooooooo hard to workout through the nausea and exhaustion of my first trimester!!! Some weeks I’d only muster one workout or I’d miss the week entirely, but I refused to feel like I had failed,” she wrote. “Through this pregnancy, I’m equally committed to feeling strong AND being kind to myself.”

It wasn’t long before America was quizzed on her reasons to exercise while pregnant, and she was asked by one curious follower why she felt she “had to” work out.

“I don’t have to. I like to. Staying active makes me feel stronger in the long run and it’s good for my mental sanity. Overall it makes me feel good, even when it can be a hard push from day to day,” the 35-year-old replied.

And America later told another fan who commented on her post that she didn’t work out at all during her first pregnancy because she felt “so tired and overwhelmed”. Yet, she was keen to make a change while pregnant the second time.

“I love how it makes me feel and I love taking time to do something that’s just for me,” she insisted of her gym sessions.

Vanessa Williams has dipped her toes back into the design game with a new line in partnership with the Home Shopping Network (HSN).

The 56-year-old singer, actress and author is launching her eponymous label in July, and has credited famed costume designer Patricia Field, who she worked with on Ugly Betty, for giving her valuable fashion advice.

“It was one of my favourite times in terms of tailoring, knowing my body, being able to learn what fits everyone was fantastic,” Vanessa, who played Wilhelmina Slater on the show, explained, reports WWD.

The mother-of-four said the new collection reimagined popular looks from the ’90s, including A-line lace silk camis and bomber jackets.

“It’s basically building a closet. So you’ll always be able to throw some separates on that look fantastic, but make you feel sophisticated. I’m 56 and my body keeps changing every year,” she shared.

“Sometimes I can’t get my arms back into something that I’ve worn for 20 years, and I’m like, ‘What has happened?’”

The former Miss America will offer eight styles in her first delivery.

One of her favourite looks is the sequinned bomber jacket, which she pairs with a black-and-white zebra skirt and black camisole.

“You’ve got the hardware and the sequin flaps make them special. I try to add some type of print, metallic and hardware. It’s definitely a luxe feel,” she said.

Back in 2016, Vanessa had a collection with Evine called V by Vanessa Williams, which was inspired by her personal wardrobe and style, and lasted for two years.

“It was good. I loved doing it. I was the top-selling celebrity line there. I’m now on HSN, and just wanted more eyes, more opportunity, more viewership,” she said of her new fashion venture, which will offer more styles in September.

New mum America Ferrera isn’t worried about shedding her pregnancy pounds because she is more focused on rebuilding her body’s strength.

The former Ugly Betty star gave birth to her first child, a son named Sebastian, with her husband Ryan Piers Williams in May (18), and now she’s more settled into life as a mum, America is starting to turn her attention to her own body.

“I’m just now starting to feel like I want to feel strong in my body again,” she tells Health magazine.

“I didn’t work out as much as I imagined I would during my pregnancy. I was in triathlon shape when I got pregnant. I had so much on my plate and something had to give.”

Despite being less active than she had planned, the 34 year old found herself feeling “really powerful and healthy” as she nurtured her unborn child.

“You create life. I found so much power in that,” gushes America, who is still breastfeeding her boy.

Motherhood has also affected the way the actress approaches her diet: “I have changed my relationship to food. I swore off (weighing) scales a long time ago,” she shares. “More than anything, I just try to be aware of how does what I eat make me feel? Do I feel better? Do I feel energized? Does this make me tired and not feel great?”

The star has also adopted a more relaxed approach to other aspects of her life, and is just determined to do her best with every task she faces.

“I try to go easy on myself,” she explains. “I think that’s been one of the mantras for me in all of motherhood – to try and not be so hard on myself. Which is a challenge because, like so many women, I demand so much more of myself than I would ever demand of someone else.”
